Ella Moss Clothing, Dresses, and Tank Tops

Updated on January 14, 2013

This popular women's brand was founded by renowned fashion designer Pamella Protzel Scott. Her passion for design led her to begin producing handmade shirts and vintage clothing pieces that had her friends raiding her closets at an early age.

It was this early success that led her to realize that she had an opportunity to use her unique personality as an inspiration to create a contemporary line of clothing that truly reflected her sense for fashion.

After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles California, she joined forces with Moise Emquies where they worked together on the Leopold line prior to creating Ella Moss. The name was created after Pamella's nickname "Ella" and Moise's nickname "Moss". Together, their unique style and vision have created one of the hottest and most in-demand clothing collections to hit store shelves in recent times.

The brand vaulted into mainstream demand after a green dress was showcased by Sarah Jessica Parker on a popular TV show. It has since become a favorite of many celebrities and the hip, casual appeal of the line has led to an explosion in demand for dresses, tops, and clothing items worldwide.

It is no surprise that the item credited with launching the brand into the public eye remains one of the most popular elements of the clothing line today. An Ella Moss dress shows off a one-of-a-kind gentle femininity while retaining the comfort level of your favorite t-shirt. The dresses are known for bright colors, simple shapes, and soft wearable cottons that give women an upscale look with a comfortable and casual feel.

Despite growing consumer demand, the line has managed to maintain a "boutique" feel to it by keeping the brand exclusive to select department stores and retailers. While the look of each dress may vary, each one in this collection retains that soft, wearable feel that gives the impression it was made just for you.

Dresses are available in a wide variety of styles ranging from stylishly sophisticated to trendy and casual for a relaxed night out. For young girls, a companion line called "Little Ella" offers the same classy dresses and comfortable fashion for active girls.

Tank Tops

If dresses are not your thing or if you just like to add a little variety to your wardrobe, an Ella Moss tank top is an essential summer piece. The collection offers a lot of options here to get just the look you are after including halter tops, racer back tanks, v-necks, and even layered tank tops. Many of the individual styles are available with several different color options so you can personalize your wardrobe to match your own style.

These tops are perfect for summer as they carry a relaxed and comfortable fit and are suitable for evening use as well. If you are thinking about putting together a fresh summer outfit, these tank tops always seem to look great with jeans from their partner brand 7 for All Mankind.

While the tanks and dresses are getting the majority of the attention, the line also offers a number of other tops such as short sleeves, tunics, ¾ sleeves, and even some stylish wraps. You can mix and match almost any combination of these to create fun and functional warm weather outfits

Where to Buy

The official company website currently lists Barneys, Henri Bendel, Fed Segal, Intermix, and Ron Herman as authorized retailers. While not listed on their website, the brand is also available at select Nordstrom locations. If you are not in close proximity to one of those stores, their dresses, tank tops, skirts, and more are sold on Amazon where they are eligible for free super saver shipping and free returns.

I wish I could share a secret spot to find this brand at cheap prices but the swift demand usually keeps most of their items from ever reaching the outlet malls and discount centers. I have on occasion found some good deals on eBay although you don't get the advantage of a deep selection that comes with buying new.

Wherever you ultimately end up making your purchase, one thing is certain; if you want an upscale and sophisticated look without sacrificing comfort to get it, you can't go wrong with this brand. I get more compliments when I am wearing something from this line than almost any other item of clothing I own. There are times when I almost forget that I am wearing something that is hip and fashionable because the comfort you get with Ella Moss is second to none.

There are so many brands out there that put trendiness before functionality so it is very refreshing to see a brand that combines the two in near perfect synergy. My original intent for this article was for an informational resource and not a review but I would be doing a disservice by failing to share my personal experience. The two most important things to me when I shop for clothes are comfort and preserving a stylish femininity that can bring out my best features. This brand delivers both and does so at the highest possible level!
