Ergonomc School Backpacks for Kids

Updated on December 13, 2012

Choosing the Best School Backpack for Your Kids

The start of another school year is slowly approaching, and many parents will soon have to start choosing the best backpack for their child. Some of them will start the new school year as first graders and some of them will have to buy a new backpack because the old one has simply been outgrown or is too beaten up to last another year.

In any case, every parent would like to provide the best backpack for their child. I think that anatomical backpacks are the way to go. Not only are they good for your child's posture, they are also available in lots of fun and colorful designs.

What You Need to Focus on, When Choosing the Best School Backpack

Selecting the bag that is most appropriate for the child's dimensions is very important for a healthy back. Here are some guidelines you need to follow. Shoulder straps should be wide, padded and of course adjustable, preferably with a buckle too. The back must also be padded. Best option for me would be the ones with mesh covered padding, so we can avoid perspiration underneath. The backpack itself should have many compartments, which will allow weight distribution for the contents of the backpack. Reflective material is also a good idea, that way it can be visible in the dark or dusk.

When carrying the backpack we must make sure, that both the shoulder straps are the same length and that the backpack is centered in the middle of the back. Experts advise the weight of the backpack to be lower than 15% of the child's body weight.

What is Most Important for You When Choosing the School Backpack for Your Kids?

Does It Need to Be Ergonomic or Just Pretty?

Trolley School Bags / Rollie Backpack

A Nice Alternative to Ergonomic Backpack

Backpacs on wheels are a good alternative to ergonomic backpacks. Experts say that they are more appropriate for the road conditions from home to school and back. The trolley backpack is usually heavier and therefore less convenient for walking up stairs. They also require great effort to lift and encourage asymmetrical movement of the back and arms. Experts advise to alternate arms to pull the trolley backpack.

Barbie Ergonomic Backpack

All Time Favorite For Young Girls

Barbie doll has been popular ever since it hit the stores in 1959. When other Barbie mechandise was available, backpacks with this beloved doll were popular as well. And they still are today. Many manufacturers add Barbie backpacks to their collections, so they are widely available. I have handpicked the ones that I (and my little girl) like the best.

Modan School Backpacks

Beautiful and affordable

Just lately I have discovered the brand Modan (Chagim-Modan) who produce beautiful, ergonomic school bags which are also afordable. Modan bags are sold worldwide under Explore and Modan brands' in addition to OEM lines mostly for the professional level.

The bags under Modan brand carry the complete range of characters by Marvel, Disney, etc. They offer first grades bags (fully orthopedic bags) and also several types of kindergarten bags and trolleys. I have decided to purchase one of those for my kids, since they would like a bag with one of their favorite cartoon characters. The list of characters that can be found on their bags is really long. I think it will be really difficult to choose just one, since my kids really love: Hello Kitty, PopPixie, Winx, Disney Princess, Dora, Bakugan, Ben 10, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Tom & Jerry.

Explore bags are designed for teens and include some unique features & patents such us the 2 in 1 bags, the revisable bags, music center bags and many more. Browsing through the 2 in 1 and music center bags, I find them very nice and so practical. Very worth the price!

Ergonomic. I teach and I really dislike the noise and fuss of the rolling ones. Good information. Thanks.
