can diamonds be set in 22 carat gold or is it too soft to support diamond
i heard diamonds r set in 18 carat gold only.and have a doubt if i'm being cheated whn a jeweller tells me its a 22k gold wid diamonds set
it is a fallacy that 22k gold is too soft - it is all according to which other metal it is alloyed with. Although only approx 8% will be another metal, if it is a "hard" metal it will make it strong enough for the setting. And besides the surround of the diamond could be set in a metal other than gold - not often done but it is possible.
Diamonds can be set in any metal, not just 18 karat.
Most typical are diamonds set in 14 karat gold actually. Due to market demands and the rising cost of gold, there are a lot of new jewelry designs that have diamonds set in silver.
I'd assume that if the diamonds are set in 22 karat gold, they are most likely flush set. The first image on the following link is exactly that: http://kenthibado.com/gallery.html
22 karat gold is very soft, and wears away faster than golds of lesser karat. If a client of mine asked for a 22 KT setting, I'd insist that they use a bezel, but I wouldn't talk them out of the choice of metal.
Hope that helps.

Can I get my diamond dyed? It is 2 ct. but off-color. I think it would look better as another...color as the side diamonds make it look yellowish, but not enough like a true yellow diamond. Where can I have this done?

What is your favorite stone and why?My personal favorite is Opal. I love the rainbow effect and how the stones pick up the light. I also just love the energy of that particular stone. It happens to be my birthstone also, but even if it wasn't I would love them.
