What Fabric Are Socks Made Out Of?

Socks are made out of fabric, but did you know that what TYPE of fabric used can effect how comfy and warm your socks are? It can, believe it or not, so here is a listing of some fabrics.

  • Wool, a cheap quality wool will be scratchy, while more expensive wool will be much more soft but still rough.
  • Micro Fiber, is most times made out of a percentage of 90% Polyester, 9% Nylon, 1% Spandex... these are very comfortable but there is a warning for people who have problems with Polyester.
  • Cotton, is all natural.. cotton grows on a plant and is often found blowing around through the air southern side of the states. This fabric would be allergen free and soft, cotton can shrink in the dryer if it's not labeled "Preshrunk" Cotton is also very warm.
  • Polyester, is a man made fabric, Polyester may not be the best for people with sensitive skin, can sometimes be scratchy... but also can be very, very soft depending on how its made. Usually warm, and more "Fuzzy"

Where Are Fuzzy Socks Worn At?

Although fuzzy socks are most popular for wearing inside, these style of socks will also be exceptional for wearing while jogging. Yes quite a few people like wearing their fuzzy socks while wearing their athletic shoes. Not only runners but you'll find skiers also around who swear by their fuzzy socks because of it's incredible warmth and comfort while skiing.

Fuzzy socks do not always need to be worn out doors, actually they're extremely popular as an indoors foot wear. You can save on those electricity bills by turning down the heater and putting on a set of fuzzy socks indoors. And because they are usually thicker than other socks you are able to simply wear them without any slippers. Naturally because of their "fuzziness" they could pick up extra dust and dirt than we'd like them to.

What Are The Point To Socks?

There Are No Stupid Questions....

The point to socks is to:

*Keep your feet clean

*Keep your feet warm

*Provide mild protection for your feet

*Socks are a fun and colorful accessory to fashion

Socks are used all over the world for these reasons, socks are fun, cozy, warm, colorful, and just plain fun!

Remember This While Buying Fuzzy Socks

Fuzzy socks could be produced from wool or wool-nylon blends, or spandex Lycra blends. However a few people do have an allergic reaction to polyester; in that case it is better to choose either wool-nylon blends or perhaps cotton.

However, if you do not have a problem with polyester in that case they are usually the most effective for making fuzzy socks. It just about all depends on your preference. When buying cotton fuzzy socks make sure that they've been "pre-shrunk" other wise just once in the dryer can have a tendency to shrink them. But many individuals like to air dry them since it tends to not take away their "fuzziness".

When my kids were young, I used to knit these socks. I always had the same colours so if they lost one or it was too worn, I did not have to make a whole pair, just one more =)
