Everybody wants beautiful skin. It boosts your self-confidence and makes you walk along the road with your head up high. However, it is very well known that maintaining beautiful skin is not as easy as people want it to be. Every now and then, a pimple pops up, blackheads camp on your nose, and acne leaves you a souvenir in the form of scars. These blemishes are inevitable but you can keep it to a minimum with just a few changes in your lifestyle and skin care routine. You can bring back that blemish-free skin as long as you are consistent at keeping your skin clean and healthy. If you want to know how to get rid of blemishes, read on and follow the tips below.


How to Get Rid of Blemishes

1. Cleanse. Tone. Moisturize.

The first step when trying to remove blemishes is following a simple but effective skin care regimen. Don’t worry; you do not have to apply ten different products on your face just to treat those blemishes. What you have to do is find products that are noncomedogenic, which means they do not clog pores. Wash your face twice daily using a gentle facial cleanser. Then use a toner to further remove dirt and oil from your face. Finally, you have to moisturize your skin in order to lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated.

2. Use salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

If you have been plagued by acne for a long time, these two ingredients might not sound new to you. Salicylic acid removes dead skin cells and benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria that may cause acne. There are a lot of over-the-counter medications containing these ingredients. Just apply the treatment on your blemishes and fend off breakouts.

3. Use ice cubes.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of blemishes fast is using ice cubes. If you sense that a pimple is about to surface or if there is already one on your face, hold a wrapped ice cube to it for five minutes. Remember to wrap the ice cube in a piece of cloth and avoid icing the parts of your face that are not infected.

4. Try baking soda.

Another home remedy for blemishes is baking soda. Form a paste by mixing a small amount of baking soda with water. Apply the mixture on your blemish to reduce redness and inflammation. This also helps slough off dead skin cells from your face. It is a good idea to try it first on a small area to see how your skin reacts to it.

5. Apply sunscreen.

Too much sun exposure can cause severe skin damage and makes your skin more susceptible to bacteria. Make it a habit to apply sunscreen before going outside to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. You can choose facial cleansers or moisturizers that contain at least SPF 15.

6. Avoid stress.

Did you know that stress is one of the most common causes of blemishes? When you are stressed, your hormonal balance may be altered, possibly triggering over production of sebum. And you know what that means: Acne breakouts. So if you want to remove blemishes, learn how to control your stress levels. It is recommended to practice breathing exercises and yoga to help relieve stress.

7. Visit your dermatologist.

If you have followed all the steps above but nothing seems to work, consult your dermatologist immediately. Prescription medications with higher strength might be recommended by your doctor. Other treatments such as laser therapy, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion are also good options to get rid of blemishes.
