WANTED: Good Taste In Goth Clothing

Having experienced the gothic scene and fashion from its early stages, at times I'm tried of its exaggerated cliches: too much vinyl, too many spikes, black, black AND black, too much lace, skulls, crosses, black hair and so much more that appears over and over again in excess to the degree that many fashion items often look tasteless and kitsch. After all these years, I now prefer simpler and more elegant versions of gothic couture, especially those that breath a new life into traditional "dark" accessories.

In this lens you will find a selection of gothic clothes and accessories, created by talented designers that I discovered over the years, which make a statement without looking cheap or of poor taste. Enjoy!

Dragon Earring by Alchemy Gothic

Dragons and fantasy creatures in general, are very popular in gothic culture. Gargoyles, bats, spiders, snakes have a special place as ornaments on goth accessories.

Alchemy Gothic

Alchemy Gothic is a british brand that designs gothic jewelry, accessories, clothing and decor.

Pope Alexander's Poison Casket Ring - Alchemy Gothic Pewter Ring size 7

Poison rings could be used to hold poison under or inside the beze in order to slip poison into an enemy's drink or the suicide of the wearer in order to escape capture or torture. They became popular in Europe during the sixteenth century.

Goth is a revolt against the slick fashions of the 1970’s disco era and a protest against the colorful pastels and extravagance of the 1980’s. Black hair, dark clothing and pale complexions provide the basic look of the Goth Dresser. One can paradoxically argue that the Goth look is one of deliberate overstatement as just a casual look at the heavy emphasis on dark flowing capes, ruffled cuffs, pale makeup and dyed hair demonstrate a modern-day version of late Victorian excess. - Maxim W. Steampunk - Scientific Romance

Steampunk blends the atmosphere of the british Victorian era with technology. Actually it's futuristic fashion, as seen through the victorian perspective.

"Steampunk uses the conception that electricity never became part of our modern lives; that steam or springs runs everything mechanical; that Victorian attire never went sour; that laser guns and other futuristic weapons are mainstream; and, that the modern world relies more on human power rather than computer potency". You've listed several of my favorite Etsy sellers, including the fabulous BloodMilk (another one of my faves is Bonejewelry). And I will absolutely have to get that Moonstone Witch's Wristlet from Dryw... beautiful piece, and it's my birthstone!

This is a great lens, I love the pictures! I like gothic fashion as long as it's not overdone, any fashion when overdone just gets to be too much don't you think? And with gothic fashion it's a lot to throw at someone visually if you overdo it lol
