Gothic Tattoo Designs for Women

Updated on July 2, 2014

Gothic Tattoos for Women

Tattoos with a Gothic design and theme continue to increase in popularity, and women definitely gravitate toward Gothic ink, although with a choice that fits who they are and what they want to uniquely express.

Gothic art of any kind has its own unique look, and while hard to describe, you know it when you see it.

Subject matter, ink, and design all contribute to the look and feel that entail Gothic tattoos, and even when a somewhat whimsical subject is included in the tattoo, there is always a added touch that transforms it into Gothic skin art.

While there are exceptions, Gothic tattoo design choices by women tend to have that same result. You can usually identify it first by the subject matter, then by the design itself.

Either way they look great, as Gothic art and design carry a compelling aspect with it that, whether you like it or not, always leaves an indelible impression on the viewer.

Gothic Tattoo Art and Women

One difference I've noticed with women in their choice of a Gothic tattoo design, while not being afraid to display the edgy side of the genre, tend not to be gravitate as deeply into the dark side of the art as the men do.

Again, there are exceptions to that rule, but in general it holds. Let's look at what some ladies have decided to have inked on them from Gothic inspiration.

Woman with Gothic Butterfly and Scrolling Tattoo Design

Butterfly tattoos are very popular with women, and add to that the Gothic look and you have a very appealing tattoo design, as you can see below. It's a safe by very compelling tattoo, and the way the scrolling travels out towards the end of the design looks fantastic.

Gothic Fairy Tattoo Design

As with the butterfly, fairies tattoo designs are wildly popular with the ladies, and this blending with the Gothic theme also works extremely well.

That hair is great, and the outfit and boots look terrific on the little flying creature. Nice Gothic tattoo choice.

Goth Woman with Dragon Tattoo

In what appears to be a Goth festival of sorts, this lady really stands out with that red hair and noticeably placed tattoos. Let's face it, placing them on her breasts makes it difficult for those who really want to see the tattoo designs, who are going to be distracted for sure.

Gothic Shoulder Tattoo of Goth Woman

You have to look a little more closely on this tattoo of the Gothic woman on the shoulder to catch the details. Did you notice the skulls scattered in her hair? Also that light-colored design on the left of the tattoo is a spider web. Pretty cool and unusual design.

Tattoo of Three Women on Thigh

At first glance this tattoo of the three women appears somewhat interesting, but tame. Taking a closer look, you see a hand reaching in the middle of them, seemingly drawing blood from the ear of one.

Gazing at the faces, you also see all three of the women pictured have lines crackle across their faces. A little too disturbing for me, but the art is good.

Gothic Fairy Wings

While it's not necessarily the official designation, my take is the set of Gothic wings on the woman's back are fairy wings. I've seen a lot of wings in my time, but these have a different look and feel than most.

The overall design is nice, and that curling on the tips of the wings look good.

Gothic Tattoo Scene on Ankle

It's hard to believe so much detail can be placed on the small canvass of an ankle and still look this good. The only problem I have with it is you would never be able to see the amazing detail in real life, as the close in shot gives a better look for us to enjoy.

Everything about this Gothic tattoo design works for me. You have the dark birds sauntering in the air around what appears to be an old, abandoned church building, which includes a graveyard on the right.

The fog and dark clouds finish off this great piece of art.

Gothic tattoos are a great choice for women who like that type of design and image. As you can see from these tattoos, there are some with more of a winsome design, along with others that have quite disturbing ones.

To me, other than those three women on the thigh, they would probably work for anyone seeking a Gothic tattoo design.

I want to know where the girl in the 3rd photo got that sexy corset wow I want one! The ankle tatt here has really caught my eye. Cemetery and haunted house scenes are my favorite for my desktop wallpaper - I hadn't thought to take that idea to a tattoo. Great ideas, thx!
