How to do your own clip in extensions

Updated on July 6, 2012

Every one can have great hair

Hair extensions are a great way to change your hair style and get great long thick hair fast. The best thing about it is its temporary and its more freeing and cooler than wearing a wig. Extensions can be added lightly into your natural hair for a very natural look. There are different hair types to choose from. Curly, wavy, and straight, plus you can choose synthetic or real human hair. In this lens I will explain the differences and bennefits of which might best work for you. This may look complicated but it really is simple to do, and its worth your time because you will look fabulous!!!

Extensions give volume to Fine Hair

I personally have fine hair and its really hard to get any kind of volume with my hair. Extensions really help me get the "bigger" hair styles and help me look fabulous.

here is an example of how extensions could change your hair:

First you need to decide if you want to order pre cut clip-ins

or do it yourself

I personally buy my hair and create my own extensions the reason I do that is because the pre made ones are looking at a "general" shaped head. No ones head is the same and buy custom cutting my own extensions I am able to put the "help" where I need it. It does take some work but the great thing about it ladies is if you take care of your hair these extensions will last a long time especially if you use human hair. Pre-prepared clip in extensions are more expensive, not customized for you, but they save a lot of time.

Pre-prepared clip-ins

weave to cut your own

Now the even bigger question - Synthetic or Human hair

Synthetic hair can last up to a year with a lot of effort. Its going to gain damage with friction and heat. The quality of the synthetic hair you buy will depend on how long it will last and how good it will look but very seldom does synthetic hair act and look "natural." Synthetic hair does come in handy if your wanting the bright vibrant colors.

this is synthetic weave you can see that it looks very set not flowing and natural

Human hair not as simple as it seems though. There are different grades of hair. Non-remey hair is the most popular and least expensive of the human hair variety. This is also known as fallen hair. It hasn't been cut just gathered and processed and its more likely to tangle

this is human hair see how natural the effect is?

Remy hair is cut and fashioned with the cuticle intact to make the hair lay in the way it would naturally on your head and is the most expensive hair weave

Synthetic - Human

I know a lot of people who use both so I am asking you squidoo

Which is best?

If your hair looks nice - then you feel nice

Finding ways to feel good about ourselves should be at the top of every womans list but unfortunately that isn't always the case. Extension is a fast easy non permanent way to impact your looks and it can be done on a budget. I purchased my hair at a local wig shop and done my own tracks for less than 30 dollars.

will you try extensions

Watch and Learn - you won't regret it

after you part size and sew on your clips your tracks should look like this

here is a few video to show you step by step how to create your own clip in tracks

I do not double my tracks because I have fine hair. Remember to measure your track for where you want it before you cut the weft into sections

@SquidooPower: lol thats a really nice and wonderful thing that your wife did and just to make you feel better I'll share a secret with you. Most likely your wifes hair will be used for a wig for someone with cancer not for us women just to have longer hair!!! Thank you for visiting and liking this lens

My wife just donated most of her hair. I miss it so, if you find one day that a strange, Australian man is sniffing your head, it's probably because you are wearing my wife's hair. ;)
