Jade- The Healing Stone

Updated on July 15, 2014

I love beautiful jewelry and especially handcrafted pieces with natural stones. Jade jewelry is definitely an eye-catcher, and it also features the mysterious qualities that span the centuries. This striking green natural stone can be traced to ancient times when it was valued for its attraction and healing properties.

It seems that Jade has been around as long as China. This metamorphic stone is dated back as far as 5000 B.C. according to archeology findings. The Jade gemstone is highly valued in China even to this day. The Chinese worshiped this stone for its beauty and warmth. They saw it as protection from sickness because of its purity. Not only was it used for jewelry, but it was also used for decoration and carvings. Because if its hardness, Jade was a favorite material for tools and weapons. Jade has always been considered a highly valuable and important gemstone that is a part of Chinese culture.

Jade consists of two different gemstones, nephrite and jadeite when formed together distribute a nice even color. This results in a fine quality Jade. If there are impurities in the stone, most likely from iron deposits, a sub par stone results. There are many different colors of Jade with a variety of shades for each color. Green is the color of choice and has long been associated with the jade stone, but white, yellow, red or brown are not uncommon.

Whether you wear Jade for beauty, symbolism or both, you will be following in the footsteps of many who enjoy the mysterious luster of Jade.
