Jennifer Lopez Perfumes

Updated on December 11, 2013

I Love The Perfumes By Jennifer Lopez Despite Her Celebrity Status

Currently there are almost 20 Jennifer Lopez perfumes on the market, with more being launched every year. There is one for men at the moment (Deseo), while the rest are all there for us, women, to delight in.

When it comes to celebrity perfumes, including the Jennifer Lopez perfumes, there are two major camps: of those who love them and those who wouldn't come near them if they got paid to do it. For the most part I'm in the second one...

I guess there is just something when it comes to celebrities that it's all about marketing and promotion for the said stair. Many people say that the

My favorite celebrity perfume: Deseo by Jennifer Lopez

perfumes are but a means of keeping the candle of a celebrity burning - and for the most part I agree with it. For example when it comes to Justin Beaber - I would never buy a perfume with his name on it. Go figure.

However what changed my mind about the perfumes made in the name of Jennifer Lopez was a funny story. A friend of mine had several perfumes at home and she made me close my eyes and sniff a few of them. And one that I liked a lot was in fact Deseo by JLo. I was actually shocked that I would enjoy a celebrity perfume - afterall my mind was also made up: these are not real perfumes, they're just a ploy to promote said celebrities. But the aroma didn't cheat: I loved it!

And of course, soon after I bought it. And much to my surprise I soon realized that indeed there are lots of people who enjoy celebrity perfumes - some are even seeking them out and buying them simply because they have a particular name behind them. Did I just become an unknowing groupie?

Deseo By Jennifer Lopez - My Favorite JLo Perfume Ever

Deseo Jennifer Lopez - For Women
Deseo Jennifer Lopez - For Women

2008 has seen quite a few great fragrances by JLo, including Deseo (my favorite one from the entire line) for women and for men! The bottle for this wonderful perfume is a collector's item.

The idea for this wonderful perfume came from JLo's garden. She wanted a fragrance that could convey the beautiful smell and look of her garden and I think the perfumers managed to do that really well. The perfume includes notes of freesia, bergamot, pink geranium flower, jasmine, mimosa, orange blossom, oak moss, warm amber, sandalwood, cedar.

NOTE: Deseo has been discontinued, so if you do like this perfume, stock up on it while you can. It's quite cheap (less than $30 at Amazon), so for the price of an expensive fragrance you can get 2 of this one. I've already bought it online, as my local Debenhams no longer has it.

The photo above is taken of me holding Deseo in my hands. I really treasure it and use it only a bit at a time, since the original Deseo is discontinued :(

The Bottle Does Look Yummie, Doesn't It?

The Bottle Does Look Yummie, Doesn't It?
The Bottle Does Look Yummie, Doesn't It?

So Why Do People Either Love Or Hate Celebrity Perfumes?

When I got my 'culture shock' so to speak when sniffing the first time Deseo, my world as it were simply had to collapse. I realized that there are some cool celeb perfumes worth checking out - and the JLo one is indeed worthy of owning, or at least of a sniff.

So what is with this either love or hate of celebrity fragrances anyway? Let me first preface this by saying that celebrities can be actors, singers, authors, athletes, anyone who is regularly shown on TV, social networks, someone who is famous and well known in the media.

Just a few years ago celebrities didn't have this rush of perfumes under their names, however today anyone who considers himself or herself with a celebrity status has to put out a fragrance if they want to be someone. Afterall a name can have a great pull, and the perfume will see just because it has a particular name under it.

The group against it says that perfumes should be made by real perfumes and should exist solely for the purpose of the scent itself - not to market or promote a given person, so that they can make money off their name. That, indeed, can tarnish the image of a perfume, because more often than not they don't even smell 'right'.

And that's exactly what I believe, for the most part, about celeb fragrances: they smell too much of marketing, of promotion, of making money off a name, and don't concentrate on making a perfume the best it can be. I mean when it comes to real perfume houses, sometimes it takes years of trial and error until just the right aroma, the right scent is obtained.

Afterall the name of the perfume house is under heavy scrutiny and just imagine Chanel having a major flop or having under their name a perfume that is just 'meh'. They couldn't live it down.

But celebrity perfumes? They appear one after another like being on a race of who comes up with more under their name, like being on a bandwagon. A perfume factory!

Speaking Of Celebrity Perfumes - Here is my latest purchase

Storia by Isabella Rossellini
Storia by Isabella Rossellini

No, this is not a Jennifer Lopez perfume, but getting Deseo last year really made me rethink the whole 'perfumes by celebrities are not worth buying' mentality I was having before.

I've stopped avoiding the isles that had such perfumes and this photo above proves it - I'm hooked!

My latest purchase is Storia by Isabellar Rossellini - now I have to say that this particular perfume, Storia, is no longer available in stores - you'll be quite lucky to find it anywhere, but I was lucky with getting it from eBay and it just came in the post.

Storia is quite a sweet perfume with hints of vanilla and patchouli, and I personally don't think it goes very well for summer, but I'll keep the bottle for autumn and cold days of winter.

So yep, here is another thumbs up for celebrity perfumes and fragrances!

Now back to reviewing the fun J Lo perfumes!

Deseo Jennifer Lopez - For Men

Deseo Jennifer Lopez - For Men
Deseo Jennifer Lopez - For Men

Deseo for Men by Jennifer Lopez is the first and only perfume for men by JLo. It was introduced in 2008 along with Deseo for women, my very favorite one. The bottle has the same exact shape, except it's smoky gray/black. It is a woody/fruity fragrance with notes starting from yuzu, cedar, red berries and lemon, going to tobacco leaf, orris root and guaiac wood and ending with sandalwood, amber, patchouli and vanilla.

A fresh fragrance that my hubby loves, although some other guys find it a bit too sweet. Great for giving it as a gift as it's not expensive at all (so you have money left over for a second gift).

Glow - Another Popular One By Jennifer Lopez

Glow by Jennifer Lopez
Glow by Jennifer Lopez

Glow was the first ever perfume launched by Jennifer Lopez back in 2002. As longevity of perfumes go, it's strange that it is still not discontinued, and I'm quite happy for it: Glow is a lovely fragrance, a flowery one with notes of neroli, pink grapefruit, rose, sandalwood, amber, musk, jasmine, iris and vanilla in it. Granted, it's not my favorite (Deseo is), but it's not bad, considering it's a celebrity fragrance.

It was made for the younger crowd (in their 20s), and in fact many other celebrities started launching their own perfume lines after Glow has become so popular all over the world. I find it a bit 'soapy', with the clean American style of scent, not overpowering but strong enough to last for a few hours on the skin. It's a perfume that can be worn during the day as well, even at work.

Still - A Cool Jennifer Lopez Perfume

Still is the second Jennifer Lopez perfume, launched in 2003, just one year after Glow. It is a light, feminine perfume with a lovely bottle as well. Considered a green floral, it contains hints of white pepper, mandarin, Earl Grey tea, sake, freesia, rose, jasmine, orange blossom and lily-of-the-valley, on a base of sandalwood, musk, amber, orris and pepper.

I don't have it, but I've sniffed it at the local drugstore and I have to say, it's a great perfume to wear during the summer with a sweet, fresh and elegant scent. I love jasmine and I can feel it through this perfume right from the start. I love this one!

Live By JLo - A Perfume Alive

Live By Jennifer Lopez For Women. Eau De Parfum Spray 3.4 Oz.
Live By Jennifer Lopez For Women. Eau De Parfum Spray 3.4 Oz.

Live is the next fragrance introduced by Jennifer Lopez in 2005. This year has been actually quite productive for her as she has launched several perfumes along Live. This is a sweeter perfume than the previous two with a hint of caramel that I love (my favorite perfumes are sweet, gourmand and flowery).

It has notes of lemon, bergamot and pineapple, along with middle notes of red currant, peony and violet, and base notes of sandalwood, Tonka bean and caramel. I feel the caramel long after the top notes have dissipated, and maybe that's why I love this perfume so much.

However don't let the sweetness of it dissuade you from trying it out. It is a light fragrance, not overpowering and it can be easily worn in summer during the day. The bottle is cool too!

Love At First Glow - A Jennifer Lopez Perfume For The Younger Crowd

Love at first glow Jlo
Love at first glow Jlo

Love At First Glow by Jennifer Lopez has also been introduced in 2005 along with Live. The shape of the bottle is similar to Glow, the first ever introduced perfume my Jlo.

However the scent is a bit different, made for the younger crows. I daresay in fact it's one made for teens, who love pink and flowers. It has notes of bergamot, neroli and peach, followed in the middle by jasmine, roses and freesia, with base notes of vanilla, musk and woody aroma.

It is a girlish perfume, but many adults wear it as well, it's just so good.

Miami Glow - Another One For The Young At Heart

Miami Glow another perfume launched in 2005 and it is also made for the very young (yet old enough to wear perfume) crowd. It is also based on the initial Glow, opening with scents of pink grapefruit, coconut water, passionfruit and blackcurrant, followed by orange blossom, helitrope and cyclamen, ending with base notes of vanilla, musks, blond woods and amber.

Glow After Dark Jennifer Lopez Perfume

Glow After Dark Jennifer Lopez Perfume

Glow After Dark by Jennifer Lopez is actually a strong departure from the original Glow. While the bottle has the same shape, there is not much else reminiscent of Glow. This one is wild. I sniffed it a a friend of mine who loves it, and wow, it's wild indeed. The top notes are lychee, melon, passion fruit, mandarin and white cherry, the middle ones are all flowers including creamy jasmine, rose, pink peony, and orange flower, while the base notes are deep patchouli musk, and moss.

It is a quite a fun fragrance, one that is perfect to wear when going out in the night. It's a bit stronger, so I personally wouldn't wear it at work. It's the fragrance to let your hair down. Personally - not my most favorite but the bottle is so cool!

Live Lux - Another Fun One With A Fancy Bottle

If you now somebody who loves Miami Glow, here is a great gift set for her. It has the perfume in EDT and a golden bronzing powder, just perfect for the summer months at the beach.

Jennifer Lopez quote on her perfumes:

"The smell of a baby's head intrigues me right now. But no babies went into that bottle. None!"

Deseo Forever Jennifer Lopez Perfume

Deseo Forever by Jennifer Lopez is the one perfume that I haven't had a chance to smell at all, so I do have to rely on online reviews for this. It was introduced in 2008, the same year the original Deseo also launched.

It is a bit lighter than the original version, and it has been especially created for Asian women. It has notes of apple, peach, bergamot, freesia, jasmine, pink rose, muguet, orange blossom, magnolia, mimosa, amber, oakmoss, musks, sandalwood, cedar wood and patchouli.

It's available on Amazon so you can give it a try. The bottle is very similar to the original Deseo.

My Glow - Another Glow Follower

Jennifer Lopez My Glow Eau-de-Toilette Spray, 3.4-Ounce
Jennifer Lopez My Glow Eau-de-Toilette Spray, 3.4-Ounce

My Glow by Jennifer Lopez is a perfume made in 2009, based on the original Glow. The bottle is different, however, and it somehow reminds me of Nina Ricci L'eau de Temps (my first ever perfume back in my teens).

It is a floral/herbal fresh perfume with notes of lavender, lotus, freesia, peony, white rose, green leaves, sandalwood, Casablanca lily, musk, heliotrope and precious wood. A simple perfume, clear with no hidden aromas. Perfect for day wear for the uncomplicated, unsophisticated women.

Blue Glow - Another Play On The Original Glo

The perfect gift for summer. Sunkist Glow set includes the perfume as EDT spray and a beautiful and lovely smelling body lotion.

LA Glow - Yep, Another Glow 'Clone'

jennifer lopez LA Glow Eau De Toilette Spray, 3.4 Ounce
jennifer lopez LA Glow Eau De Toilette Spray, 3.4 Ounce

LA Glow by Jennifer Lopez. Fruity, floral and rather sweet, just as I like my perfumes. It is perfect for night wear (it's been made to remind one of the night life in LA) and it is sensual, feminine and sexy. It starts with notes of cherry, plum and blackberry, followed by jasmine, peony and magnolia, ending with base notes of musk, amber and tropical cream.

I love the bottle color and if you are collecting perfume bottles, this one can go right to your collection, it's worth getting it.

Forever Glowing

Forever Glowing - New Perfume In 2013

The latest Jlo perfume is called Forever Glowing, and it has come out this very year in February. It's not on Amazon yet to purchase, but I bet you can find it at retail stores. I did sniff it just about a week ago at the Vienna airport duty free shop and this is what I thought of it:

First of all the bottom - not bad - a bit less glamorous than some of her other bottles, but it's quite elegant in its own right.

The fragrance reminded me of something sweet and powdery - in fact one of my favorite scents, I love sweet perfumes. It is warm and slightly spicy and I image it will go well for autumn. I don't think it's a summer perfume, because I usually imagine those more fruity somehow. This one will go well this very autumn I suspect.

Strange, but this is one of the few fragrances by Jlo that somehow reminded me of Deseo, my favorite one. Not strongly, mind you, but enough to give me a warm fuzzy feeling, making me like it. I didn't buy it and I'm actually sorry I did, but instead I went for Signorina by Salvatorre Ferragamo because I really craved that perfume for quite some time now. But I'll get it soon enough!
