Makeup Tips for Redheads

Looking for makeup for redheads? Applying the right makeup for redheads can be difficult. Knowing what colors, and how to best use them, are the keys to make a redhead impressive.

Redheads are captivating, mystical, dazzling and charming.

Natural redheads are easily to noticed: they usually have blue, green or hazel eyes and a milky-white complexion.

Many have freckles that make them look delicate, even though finding a perfectly matched foundation can be tricky.

Here are some makeup tips that will help you find the best makeup colors for red hair, whether yours is natural or not.

Know What Shade of Red You Are

Most reds fall into one of three shades: copper (orange) red, violet red, and red red.

Natural redheads, are in the copper category; very dark reds are categorised as violet red; and red reds are noticeable by their vibrant, true red color.

If your hair is copper red you would like to make sure orangey makeup and clothing won't clash with your hair hue.

The same goes for violet redheads and reds and red shades.

Your Eyebrows

If you're not a natural redhead, consider having your eyebrows tinted.

Many women have ash toned eyebrows, which contrast with the warm, spicy red tones. Aim for one shade darker than your red hair color.

Fill your brows with a brown or blonde brow pencil. If your eyebrows are already quite light, you can darken them up a bit with a darker brown pencil and don't go to dark and stay in the lighter brown or blonde family.

Prepare your Skin

This is important for everyone, but particularly redheads with sensitive skin.

Always use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 (anything under 15 isn't effective).

That moisturizer should be gentle, free of overwhelming scents or harsh ingredients.

Foundation for Redheads

Redheads are often by nature blessed with a beautiful porcelain complexion, free of blemishes. Choose a foundation that closely matches your skin tone and skin type.

The purpose of foundation isn't to modify your skin tone.

Red- or pink-based foundations are often a mistake, making the complexion look reddish and out-of-kilter.

Rather, opt for a peachy or cora based foundation and If you are a natural redhead, usually those tones that are the lightest (ivory) are the most natural.

You can test the color of the foundation under natural light by matching it to the color on the inside of your wrist.

Eye Makeup for Redheads

Redheads usually have very light eyebrows and eyelashes.

Choose a light brown, gray or purple eyeliner and a mascara that lengthens, thickens and fortifiesn your eyelashes. Once again, browns are favored over blacks. Black mascara is too harsh against pale skin.

If you want to try something new, that still looks natural, choose a reddish brown mascara.

For eye shadow choose golden colors, beige, terra cotta and different shades of browns and peaches.

You can also opt for a more dramatic look with colors such as plums or emeralds. Remember to avoid pinks and blues.

I agree with Sarah. You clearly have no idea, clue or knowledge regarding NATURAL redheads. You don't even have the hair shades right. This is not your area of expertise.

As a natural redhead I have to try things out. Not all colors look good on me. Shades of the same color can be different in different brands. It's really trial and error. Each redhead has their own look. Believe it or not we do NOT all look alike!

I'm sorry but clearly you know nothing about NATURAL redheads. Just about all of this is wrong. Most foundations have way too much yellow in then which will leave a very clear line under your chin/neck. Redheads have pink undertones, skip drug store foundations because they are usually too yellow and you can't test them first. Makeup forever is a good choice. Also redheads actually get much worse blemishes than anyone else because sensitive pale skin will show every little mark and pimples leave marks for up to a month so use boi oil to or maderma.

Excellent lens. My wife (Debnet) is a redhead, passing on the lens to her.
