Stunning Muslim Jewelry

Updated on February 19, 2015

Beautiful Silver and Gold Praise Jewelry Celebrates the Name of Allah

Artisans create beautiful jewelry pieces designed specially for Muslims. Here's a selection of my favorites, from thikr (recitation of the names of Allah and of verses) items such as beads, to fancy gems.

Muslims celebrate the tenents of Islam throughout the day, the way in which they live their religion (deen) and this jewelry can be a daily reminder to follow the Straight Path.

Muslim jewelry makers have developed the theme of celebrating Allah in every decorative style. After my conversion to Islam I omitted images of created beings from my artwork, although I seldom used them anyway. Most of my content consists of manmade items. See one of my paintings below.

Enjoy an abundance of Muslim style jewelry. From the name of Allah, to your name, to Zam Zam water lockets - you'll find it all here. Gold is reserved for women, while the wearing of silver is fine for men and women, since Islam directs men to forego the wearing of gold.

I selected gifts for newcomers to Islam, as they take their Shahadah, celebrate their first Ramadan, and experience their first Eid. A pin, necklace or ring will emphasize your love and respect for your new friend.

Muslims are exhorted to dress in special clothing for the grand Eid congregational celebrations. Top off your clothing by wearing special jewels for Jummah and Eid, to dress your best!

Sterling Silver Islamic AL SHAHADA Gold Plated Black Braided Leather Bracelet Tri-colored Beads, 1 13/16 inch wide, 7 inches long

This is simply a perfect woman's Shahada Gift. Made of 925 Sterling and wooden beads, it slips on the wrist. It would have delighted me to receive such a bracelet, as a tactile reminder of my new found faith, as I encountered the world in renewal.

This Dogtag makes a perfect gift for the college student going away from home to school life in a dorm. Also appropriate to mark special occasions like Eid, graduation, academic achievements and job advancements.

When i first saw the name of God in Arabic script, I was studying the language, and couldn't make the artistic leap to the lovely curved style in this pendant, but now it seems like it's part of me.

Ancient Islamic Jewelry & Jeweled Items

ornately decorated everyday and special use items in history

Early metalsmiths made a variety of intricately designed and decorated jewelry, weapons and household implements, like pens, combs and buckles, during the great flourishing period of Ancient Islamic history.

Art was part of everyday life, as even common items like drinking glasses were objects of decoration.

One of the favorite paintings I did some years after my conversion to Islam features an ornately crafted battleaxe, inscribed and carved in fine metals and jewels. In my painting I've taken the liberty to add some gnat's wings to the handle, and to emphasize the curlique lines inscribed on the blade so it looks more like filigree than sheet metal.

I combined the image of the implement with a line of eyelet lace, and symbols of shifting space from quantum mechanics, a landscape from a great grandmother's oil painting from the 1800s and three ripe apples in the foreground.

Today we reserve fine metals and jeweled work for special objects and jewelry. We can easily choose from a gorgeous online treasure house of jewelry made for Muslims.

Men's Muslim Jewelry Tungsten Ring With Shahada

Outstanding example of a Shahada or Eid Gift! I like the contemporary sleek look and its massive size. Men`s Islamic ring is made from Tungsten Carbide, meaning it's right for your man who needs has reactions to some common jewelry metals. This is the hardest metal made on earth and it's nearly impossible to scratch.

This ring has the Shahada in Arabic script around the outside of the ring, and the English translation of the Declaration of belief engraved on the inside.

@Heidi Vincent: Thanks, I think praise is universal. Glad you like the painting. It's one of my favorites. It once hung in a doctor's office and a kitchen-table painter complained that it showed an object of battle, but what I concentrated on was the beautiful decoration they used to apply to all implements - jewels, gold, silver, carving, that sort of embellishment.

@sierradawn lm: After my conversion I began to notice women wearing elaborate jewelry at women's affairs, like pre-wedding parties and Eid celebrations, and I came to appreciate wearing jewelry to please myself.

@lesliesinclair: Thanks, that's a great explanation and makes perfect sense. I think the jangling jewelry rule is just good taste, religion or not!

@Erin Mellor: The practice of observing modesty wears many veils in many areas. Wearing of jewelry runs the whole gamut, in practice, from none visible to lots of bling that doesn't look at all modest to the general audience. But notably, women often wear bright shining metals and jewels for big celebrations with other women, without compromising the dictum to avoid drawing attention to oneself. Such an event would be a women-only party that celebrates an upcoming wedding or some other life event.

Understated jewelry compliments the style of dress, seeming to draw the eye from the overall body covering to the headcovering, if the woman wears a turban or other wrap-style cap, like I often do. Many women choose to wear jewelry of any type only under a proper hijab, one like a large headscarf that covers all hair and the neck too. In that case they are wearing the jewelry for themselves only, with close family alone able to see it at home, as often they do not remove their hijab even in a dinner with female friends in a private home.

The answer is that there is no checklist for Muslim women to follow, but the Qur'an and Hadith do describe instances that should be avoided, such as the jangling jewelry.

In truth, the religion cautions against drawing attention to oneself by the clinking of jewelry, such as an armful of bangling bracelets or bells worn to make noise.

These are some lovely items. I'm interested in the guidance surrounding jewelry in Islam. I understand the need not to have "graven images of any living thing" on jewelry, but I don't understand how the wearing of jewelry fits with the desire to dress modestly, as jewelry is designed to catch the eye. Is it something reserved for wear only with family, or during Eid only? Sorry if this is a silly question, I find cultural and religious traditions interesting, and your lenses do a great job in explaining things.
