Hot Pepper Tattoos

Updated on August 20, 2015

Pepper Tattoo Designs

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started looking into a variety of designs for pepper tattoos.

With many pepper having a reputation of being extremely hot, my imagination was creating all sorts of possibilities before beginning my search.

Surprisingly to me, the majority of pepper tattoos seemed to have been inked on by those who took it a little more seriously, meaning they remained true to the actual shape and look of the pepper, rather than creating some unique designs centered around the hot aspect of the pepper, which has a lot of potential variations which could be extremely funny.

Fortunately there were some that took advantage of that, and I'll share some of them below.

Hot Peppers

Another interesting I discovered about hot pepper tattoos was the popularity of the hot, slender, red hot pepper, which appears to be a chili pepper.

They include a red body and green stems with foliage on top.

3-D Pepper Tattoo on Shoulder

With this first tattoo we see the choice of the majority of people choosing a pepper tattoo. The deep red body and green foliage is pretty standard with this tattoo design.

This one is a little different because of the inclusion of 3-D effects with it. That's always a good differentiator.

Pepper Tattoos on Wrist, Arm, Neck

Even though there are some very slight differences with these three pepper tattoos, essentially they're all the same with the exception of where they're placed on the body.

They're different from the above tattoo by the extra foliage on top, and the deeper red and pointy body. My favorite of these three is the one inked behind the ear.

3-D Pepper Tattoo with Scrolling Foliage

Here we have a different take on the pepper tattoo design, including the longer stem foliage draping over the top of the pepper, along with the scrolling or vining green foliage apparently standing alone and there solely for aesthetic purposes.

Somewhat easy to overlook is the great shine created by the tattoo artist which has that more dull, authentic look.

Group of Pepper Tattoos

I know a lot of about growing peppers and tattoos, so when I saw this group of peppers tattooed on this guys' leg, it was obvious what it was.

For those who may not know, when you harvest peppers, if you want them to last awhile, you tie some together, similar to what you see here, and hang them. That's what the string on top, or whatever it's meant to portray, is tied around the stems of the peppers.

Of course the question is why this person would want to have a group of hanging peppers on her leg.

It's not bad looking but has too much color for my tastes.

Hot Green Pepper Tattoo with Lightning Bolt

Now here we're getting into what I thought there would have been a lot more of, and that is the emphasis on the hot of the peppers, including some secondary effects to highlight that.

We have all of that here with the color background behind the pepper representing some serious heat, and the lightning bolt telling us it has some serous kick to it.

The pepper itself is very well done, and the colors complement one another nicely. Too bad the background isn't to the quality the pepper is.

Red Hot Pepper Tattoo with Mustache

We now reach the last pepper tattoo in the gallery, and it represents everything my imagination was taking me when thinking what a pepper tattoo would look like.

It has all the humor I thought would be there, and those piercing eyes seem to say when you take a bite out of this pepper you're going to take some real heat. And what can you say about the mustache? It gives it that Latin look that one usually associates with hot peppers of this variety. Great tattoo design.

Pepper Tattoos

My reaction to this gallery of pepper tattoos is somewhat of a mixed one because there were some like those I had anticipated, but not nearly as many as I thought there would be.

It surprised me that some great subject matter like this didn't get the humorous treatment to the level I expected.

Even so, from these pepper tattoos you can see there is a lot of potential if you think it through and talk it over with the tattoo artist you choose to work with.
