Photos of Moissanite

View Pics of Beautiful Moissanite Jewelry

Does moissanite look like diamond? The simple answer is yes and no. Moissanite is a near colorless gemstone, which is what many diamonds are too. However, it tints a yellow-gray-green, when diamonds tint a more yellow-brown. Is this a give-a-way? For most people, not at all.

Moissanite Solitaire - Classic look and quality jewelry, at a much better price

The classic pronged solitaire is a style that will stand the test of time.

If you're looking for sparkle in earrings, moissanite out sparkles diamond hands down.

Moissanite Indoor Lighting with Flash - My favorite photo of 1CT Moissanite Solstice Ring

To date, this is the clearest picture I've captured of a moissanite. It's sitting on an orange and was taken indoors with natural lighting plus the flash of my Rebel camera.

To my eye this is how I most often see my moissanite. It faces up a steely white and is gorgeous. Typical office lighting produces this color and unfortunately that is where I spend the majority of my days. The soft lighting in the elevator is another story, that turns it into a disco ball of sparkling color that always draws admiration.

Side by Side: Moissanite Vs. Diamond - Can you tell which ring is moissanite?

Moissanite will dazzle on your ears - Moissanite studs go with just about everything

I own a very similar pair of moissanite studs in 3MM. They are small, but that is what makes them extremely comfortable an easy to wear. They aren't too flashy, but moissanite still packs a lot of sparkle.

Moissanite in Warm Christmas Tree Lighting - 1CT Moissanite Solstice Ring

Warm lighting such as the glow of Christmas tree lighting or a romantically lit restaurant will cast a warm glow on a moissanite. It also will sparkle like crazy in this lighting, however it's a darker flash of color than the bright sunshine sparkle. A lot of moissanite fans prefer this sparkle because it's much easier on the eyes and easier to admire than bright sunlight.

Just to show you how much light going in can change the color of a stone, here is bright LED flashlight being held under the same 1CT Solstice Ring as in the other photographs on this page. The same thing can be done with diamonds.

Moissanite wedding rings - Our newly married hands

This is a professional photography by K&E Productions. It was taken outdoors. My wedding ring is a channel set round moissanite band, his has one little 3mm moissanite right in the center.

Sparkling in the Jamaican Sunlight - My new wedding set showing off on our honeymoon

In this picture my rings were set on fire with bright sparkles. For most people this is what draws them to moissanite. Only the highest quality cut diamonds can match a moissanite in full sparkle mode. It is truly gorgeous and attention grabbing. However, it's extremely difficult to convey in a photograph.

Kitchen Task Lighting with Flash - 3-stone Moissanite Ring being cleaned by the Jewel Jet

The ring was actually quite sparkly to the naked eye in my soft kitchen lighting. The camera caught the burst of steam being used to clean the ring resulting in the blurring of the sparkle colors and turning the moissanites a little blue.

F.A.Q. about Moissanite Jewelry - Is there something I haven't addressed? Leave your question in the comment section below.

  1. Q: What should I choose if I want my moissanite to look like a diamond?

A: Stick with a 1CT or under round brilliant. Out of all moissanite shapes and sizes, this range is the king for producing stones that face up white and are often confused with diamond. Not to say larger stones and other shapes aren't drop dead gorgeous and often confused with diamond, but if you want to ensure that no one ever knows, 1 ct or smaller in round is the way to go.

  2. Q: What if I want a bigger stone or a different shape?

A: Order your moissanites as loose stones from a reputable company that has a return policy you agree with. Moissanite is not graded, therefore it's impossible to buy a white moissanite by asking for it. It's best to see the moissanite in person with the naked eye and judge it for yourself. Many local jewelers and online companies will be happy to set your moissanite for you.

  3. Q: What is an "enhanced" moissanite?

A: Be careful of this term. There are some eBay sellers that are selling CZs as enhanced moissanite. These aren't moissanites at all and aren't worth the money they are asking. There is one company that I know of that is offering a special coating that many women swear by. It will lighten a moissanite 1-2 shades and make it appear more steely than yellow-green. It is highly recommend on the fancy shapes like radiant and pear or on any stone over 2cts. For more information and a side by side photo comparison visit Enhanced Moissanite Information at MoissaniteCo.com. Note that many people find regular moissanite with no enhancement coating to be very beautiful and enhancing isn't a necessary thing. Some customers prefer the enhancement as they are trying to achieve the look of diamond or dislike warmth in stones.

Moissanite & Diamond Ring Side-by-Side - A photo collage of 2 images

Moissanites on the left, diamonds on the right
Moissanites on the left, diamonds on the right

Moissanite on the left. Diamond on the right. This is a great comparison of how moissanite looks different than diamond when looking from the side. I have no spec information on the diamonds in the right ring and keep in mind that the light sources could be completely different.

@anonymous: Sorry, you are probably long engaged and possibly married by now. Congrats! However, you are correct, the smaller stones look great as untreated moissanite.

@anonymous: No it does not. CZ tends to get cloudy due to small scratches, it's a very soft stone, moissanite however is a much harder stone, more like a sapphire. Moissanite's obviously look better clean as any stone does, but even when dirty they still have a ton of sparkle just because they have so much to begin with.

I am considering getting a moissanite stone for my engagement ring and have been trying to decide if I need to spend the extra money on the amora or to go with the stock moissanite. I will be getting a 1/2 stone in a 6 prong solstice setting. I have read that it's small enough not to really make a difference.

Which on line co would u recommend buying an antique style three stone ( past present future type)... I was originally interested in the traditional round brilliant but am increasingly more interested in the new square brilliant, which I understand to be like a princess cut with more facets... Any advice u have is great... At this point, the rings that I m most impressed with are at the moissanite co website, or www.moissanitejewelry.com, however, they do not offer these square brilliant cuts, or this " angel fire" cut I have seen on JTV...

      Thanks, dawn
