Help! How Can I Quickly Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

Updated on August 21, 2014

Stretch Marks - A Common Problem Yet Can Be Very Embarrassing

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a common skin condition that can be faced by both men and women. When most people think of stretch marks, they think of the pregnant women, but the problem affects many people in all age groups and both men and women.

While not dangerous, they are sometimes itchy and embarrassing.  Your skin is the largest organ on your body.  It’s designed to be flexible, but when pushed to its limit, it suffers somewhat of a breakdown.

When it’s stretched out rapidly, the skin develops lines called striae that often appear reddish in nature.  After awhile, the marks may turn into a whitish color.  The most common areas to get stretch marks are your abdominal area, breasts, upper arms, lower back, hips, and thighs – just about everywhere!

Your skin loses its collagen and elastin, which means it no longer has those finely toned lines and fibers.  Although this happens beneath the top layer of skin, if the stretch is bad enough, it will eventually show through the top layer.

What's the Cause of Unsightly Stretch Marks?

There are many reasons your skin loses its elasticity.

Pregnancy causes stretch marks to appear because the skin is stretched along with the growing fetus inside a woman's womb. The more the skin stretches, the more prevalent stretch marks will be.

Other causes of stretch marks include gaining and losing a lot of weight (especially if it happens quickly). The skin stretches with the amount of fat that's put on. When a lot of weight is put on and then is shed off of the body's frame, the skin becomes looser and stretch marks will form.

It's also said that hormones play a part in these skin blemishes. Hormones can affect the way the skin's cells function. When that's disrupted, skin blemishes can occur - like the stretch marks. Depression could have an effect on the skin cells as well. Depression causes unnecessary stress and anxiety, which affects a lot of your body's functions - including your skin cells.

A poor diet may also be to blame for stretch marks to appear. Your skin needs certain nutrients to function properly. When it's lacking those nutrients, it can't function and grow as well as it should.

Children who have gone through a sudden growth spurt can sometimes be found to have stretch marks, as well as athletes who continually do the same exercises on certain areas of their bodies. No one seems to be immune to it, but there are ways of quickly getting rid of the look of stretch marks.

Remember that you can not get rid of the stretch marks themselves but you can reduce their visibility.

Powerful Stretch Mark Cream to Quell Your Embarrassment

Stretch marks can make you depressed, humiliated, and ashamed. Although others may not even notice them, you feel as it they're sticking out like a sore thumb on your skin. You may have tried several different products to try to get rid of them to no avail.

Trilastin-Sr is a potent product now available to anyone suffering from the battle wounds of pregnancy, diet, and exercise - otherwise known as stretch marks. It's a complex cream designed to target the dermal tissue defects that cause the stretch marks to form in the first place.

It aids in the repair of skin tissues, which helps to reduce those marks from sight. Not only will it help to bring your skin to a more natural state, but it also helps to prevent any more dermal tissue breakdown. (a common problem with people prone to this issue).

For years, women have frantically tried every snake oil product that hit the streets. Who doesn't want their body to retain or return to its youthful appearance? Unfortunately, they did nothing to help a stretch mark sufferer.

They only aided in bringing the seller more money to put in their own pockets. Because of modern technology, Trilastin-SR is able to do what it says. It wasn't a product made for something else that just happens to also reduce the look of stretch marks.

With some stretch marks going extremely deep into the skin's surface, some may take more time to respond to the treatment. But it won't drain your bank account like laser surgery or plastic surgery will, and has some very strong testimonials!

Vitamin E: Can It Really Rid Your Skin of Stretch Marks?

When a person sees stretch marks developing, he or she is often panicked to quickly get rid of them - especially if it's swimsuit season!

Vitamin E has long been touted as a way to get rid of stretch marks, but in reality, it's more of a preventative measure.

Vitamin E comes mainly in pill form, but many pregnant women invest in creams and lotions (or even oil) that they can rub directly on their stomach during pregnancy. Vitamin E is an essential item the skin needs to stay healthy.

You don't want to start overdoing your Vitamin E consumption because some things can be dangerous at high levels - so make sure you ask your doctor for advice on how much Vitamin E to use.

When it's healthy, the skin can heal wounds and blemishes that come our way, and stretch marks are no exception to this rule!

If you want to use it topically, you can try mixing the vitamin E oil with a lotion and massaging it into the stretched-out area or area prone to stretch marks on a regular basis. Some Cocoa butter lotions come with Vitamin E already mixed in.

@Sharnajoness: in new zealand the tv ads are showing that snail slime helps reduce them.. its grose i know. but you can find creams with the slime in it so its less discusting..

i used bio oil for a while and it didn't seem to help much. so i just let them fade over time. my doctor said vitamin A works well.. but never got around to trying it.. hope i helped you a bit :)

The real question is - who doesn't have stretch marks. Honestly, I think women and some men stress out way to much about hiding them. I do believe that stretch mark removal creams do help to a certain degree, however you have to go into it with the right mind set and expectations or else you will be greatly disappointed!

I reall did not begin to get stretch marks until I became pregnant with my son a few years ago. I have tried all types of special creams but none really produce satisfactory results, except for the shea or cocoa butter ontiments.

@Sharnajoness: Sharnajoness seeing a professional is always the best advice. They can look and feel your skin and know exactly how to proceed from there. They will give you the quickest and best results.

One thing that you should know is that stretch marks do fade over time. Many times even 1 season can make a big difference!

I am not sure if where you live you are going into winter weather but if you are then that's a good thing as bright sun can make stretch marks appear to look more visible.

They don't really get more visible but because the skin around them tans and stretch marks don't tan they seem to stand out more.

If you do live where the weather will be colder just be sure to use a body lotion on your skin to stop it from drying out and by the time that spring rolls around your stretch marks should be less noticeable.

If you do go and see a doctor then be sure to use the cream that they give you and use it the way that they tell you. Often you only need a tiny bit and using more won't make them fade more quickly it will only use up your cream faster (and the cream can be pretty expensive).

Either way keep your skin moisturized and remember that stretch marks will fade over time and believe me or not - others don't notice your stretch marks like you do. Just think about how many celebrities hated going through high school because they didn't like their nose or thought that their legs were ugly - yet when we see them we think that they look great. We are always harder on ourselves than others are.

i'm 14 i have stretch marks everywhere and they've been there since the start of last year. I have them on my hips, lower hips, back, lower back, breasts, thighs, and in the last couple of weeks i've gotten majorly bad ones on the front of my stomach, little ones on the backs of my legs and also one or two on the back of my arms, near my armpit. i'm not even that fat, but i did grow very fast. i think i've gotten those extra ones because of the humiliation and the depression of having all them others. the depression has caused me anxiety and stress, which causes them even more stretch marks. i'm thinking about going to the doctor and getting some professional help. is there anybody in the same situation as me? please help.

@Wedding Mom: I love olive oil to moisturize ( and also cook with.) With that being said while I do know of a few stretch mark products the contains olive oil, the opinions of how effective and easy to work with were all over the board. In general they were did not fair up very well. Some complain of the olive oil going rancid ( not sure why olive oil would but not other oils) others talk about the greasier than average feel and staining of clothing, while others said either the products didn't work or that they didn't care for the smell.

The one product with olive oil that was favorable was Bella B Tummy Honey Butter.

You can also rub a very small amount of olive oil on your stretch marked area twice a day.Just be sure to use a very small amount. It will keep the skin moist and subtle.

    • nebby profile image

@anonymous: Kirstin, anyone can get stretch marks. Stretch marks occur when the skin expands and stretches as in a growth spurt. Some people get them when they gain weight, build large muscles and others have a tendency to get stretch marks as they grow and age.

The best way to keep stretch marks at bay is to keep the skin moisturized ( dry skin gets stretch marks more easily then hydrated skin) and to avoid a rapid weight or muscle gain.

There is no cure for stretch marks and nothing can totally remove them as they are basically scars. However, they can fade away and become much less noticeable by hydration, moisturizing, using a sun screen on the area and also products that are created for stretch marks.

@anonymous: While many products will mention that they "get rid of stretch marks", you really can't get rid of them but what these products do is to fade the striations so that they are less visible.

Depending on the color and tone of a persons skin and how visible the stretch marks are it could take a few short months or it could take many months.

Remember that they would be making the stretch marks less visible, not removing them as once you have stretch marks they will last forever.

I like how you balance this lense by including Vitamin E as a preventative measure. I had fair success on my abdomen by melting pure cocoa butter and adding Vitamin E and using it for the duration of my 2 pregnancies. Unfortunately, after the second pregnancy I realised I got stretch marks on my upper thigh and breast. I just never thought of using my mix on those areas. Need to look up Trilastin.

The majority of users of Trilastin cream tell their success stories about the visible results they have seen in the matter of only four weeks! The truth is that if you continue using this remedy for a few more weeks, you will see that the marks will disappear completely. This speaks for the effectiveness of this cream. The response of users has been overwhelming and internet is loaded with so many success stories and positive reviews. There is no denying to the fact that Trilastin cream works wonderfully on these marks and gives relief to the users that they have been longing for. Relax your body and skin with inflatable hot tub

When I was a student in university I got into bodybuilding and in a year I gained more than 30 kilos ( about 75 pounds) . That was a lot...half of that was muscle but the other half was FAT. I lost most of that fat 6 months later giving me plenty of stretch marks all over the place ( around my waist , abdominal area, chest area close to armpits, triceps and biceps, hips and lats ). Did I really care back then. NO. Do i care now? Hell yeah. They used to be red for a long time but then got white . But even though many years have passed since then some of them become red after training.

I haven't fixed this problem yet because the creams were really expensive. The creams you are proposing are far more cheap than the ones I had found maybe I will try one or two of them.

      Thank you very much

I'm 44 years old, and I have 4 beatutiful children. My oldest is 22 now and i've unhappily borne stretch marks for the full 22 yrs of motherhood. I wish someone would have told me that pregnancy could do this to my body. I would still have had my children, but i would have done more to try to prevent these ugly marks. I had a tummy tuck 12 yrs ago which helped some, but the scar is ugly and there are still a lot of marks on my lower tummy. I had almost given up hope. But, I found out about TriLastin and ordered 2 tubes. It hasn't arrived yet, but i'm excited to try it. I so hope that I can have some improvement so I can feel comfortable in my 2 piece bathing suit again. It's been 22 yrs. Oh, how I hope this is gonna work. I would just love to look halfway dcent for a little while before I get too old to care. Anybody out there had success with TriLastin?

Have you tried Eucerin creme? It's hypoallergenic, fragrance free and you can find it in many stores including Walmart. The creme version is the most concentrated and will moisturize better than lotions. If you currently use a moisturizer on your skin see if they have a creme version
