I Love Red Handbags

Updated on January 17, 2015

You can never have too many Red Handbags!

A Red Handbag is a necessity in every wardrobe. No fashion item could be more versatile. The rich vibrant colour is bold, sexy and fun on a young woman and dramatically elegant for the mature woman.

It livens up any outfit, casual or formal, from jeans and sweater to the classic black frock. It turns an outfit from plain to chic.

Simply put, a lady can't get by without a red handbag.

The Lady in Red

Red grabs attention. It signals a call to action. Red suggests speed combined with confidence and maybe a dash of danger. Red is stimulating and appetising. Mere perception of red colour enhances the human metabolism.

Once red was reserved exclusively for the rich nobility, only to be worn by Kings, Cardinals and Emperors. Now we can all use red - and what better way to flaunt a colour of power than in a delectable handbag.

You only need a splash! A little bit of red goes a long way ........

What a beautiful Birkin! - $20,000 plus is neither here not there

If I had money to throw away

Is there anything more refined than this genteel, graceful handbag?

Nearly all Hermes Birkin bags, named after English actress and '60s fashion icon Jane Birkin, are special orders, like this red leather version.

This one is absolutely timeless and will look exquisite for years and years. It would certainly have to last forever with a price tag of this size - most Birkins are upwards of $20,000, but the final price depends on skin and hardware.

Do you baulk at paying out $1000 or even $20,000 for a handbag?

Try these bags instead

The interior lining is attractive ultra suede and the handles are drop woven leather.

Thai Silk

Lovely Thai Silk - thanks Si Ling Chi!

Empress Si Ling Chi of China is credited with discovering silk. While sitting under a mulberry tree in a palace garden having tea, a silkworm's cocoon fell out of the tree into her cup. While removing it from her tea, she discovered the fine silk filament of the cocoon beginning to unravel.

The Chinese guarded the secret of silk for millennia by executing anyone found guilty of smuggling silkworm eggs, cocoons, or mulberry seeds. Silk became the cloth of emperors and royalty and a great source of wealth. However, about 1900 years ago a Chinese princess who married an Indian prince is reported to have successfully smuggled silkworm eggs out of China in her headdress and then fed them with the leaves of Indian mulberry trees. The rest, as they say, is history.

I adore Thai Silk!
