What It's Like To Win A Makeover! My Story...

About a month ago, I got a very exciting email telling me that I was one of three winners of our local Channel 3's "Sizzling Summer Makeover" contest on the Morning Blend Show! The prizes included custom made dresses from e-Shakti.com, a hair makeover by Garbo's Salon in Omaha, accessories from The Laurel Tree, professional photography, and last but not least an appearance for the big reveal on the Morning Blend Show! This prize couldn't have come at a better time in my life. I've just finished going through major facial surgery for malignant Melanoma (see link to that story below) and to be honest, it struck quite a blow. I've always taken a lot of pride in my appearance but a 5" scar on your face will do a number on anybody's self image!

It's amazing to me how excited my family and friends have been about this little project! Everybody has such great ideas and input, and they've all been very encouraging.

I've been a certified image consultant for almost 25 years now with Beauticontrol Cosmetics, and have done makeovers on countless women. So at first I just thought "Wow! Cool prizes!" But something happened after the hair makeover at Garbo's. I DID feel different! I did feel better! And I thought, "Why not just let these folks have at me and see what they can do!"

At 6:30 this morning, minutes before I was to leave for Garbo's Salon for hair and makeup before the show, I was still agonizing over which dress to wear! In the end, I went with the polka dot dress which truly feels the most "me" and out the door I went (with the other dress finalist in my tote bag!)

I never had time after that to change or give it a second thought. I decided to keep mostly quiet about my opinions on makeup, hair and accessories, and let them do what they would for the show. It was interesting to see what they decided!
