Glitter Ballet Flats - It's our time to sparkle!

Updated on August 23, 2013

Glitter flat shoes will make your feet sparkle

I love to wear flats and have quite a selection of them in my shoe closet and the collection just keeps on growing year by year. They are extremely comfortable to wear and go really well with jeans and with skirts and dresses and well everything. Glittery ones have become quite popular lately and as I'm not immune to the shoe trends it's time to get shiny... Well I already have one pair but who can say no to another one right? And as flats are on the lower end of the price range when it comes to shoes the decision to get a new pair isn't all that hard.

And when the stores don't have what you want you can always make your own pair! It's super easy and really inexpensive.

Photos on this page are taken by me or are product photos unless otherwise stated.

I've got silver flat shoes! - Fitting for every occasion

When it comes to glitter shoes there are certain colors that are OK for all occasions and all ages and silver is one of them. I've bought these last year (on SALE! Woot, woot) and I love them. The glitters are really, really small so the shoes look quite glamorous. They work well with dresses and are absolutely stunning when you wear jeans.

I was so happy to have found them in the stores as I do have a soft spot for glitter and have always wanted a pair or two. Sadly though I have a hard time finding them as I have thin feet and most of the flat shoes don't fit me (read look super funny on my feet) so ordering online is a no go for me (oh how I envy the girls who make every shoe look gorgeous on them) and local shoe stores usually don't have a lot of these. They had ones that had glitter leopard pattern on them, a bit to much for me but if they'll still have them the next time I'm there I'll be taking a photo as this is something you need to see.

And I want gold glitter flats! - Another great color you can wear with everything

Funny thing is I really dislike gold jewellery and can't imagine wearing it but when it comes to shoes I would love me a pair of golden ones.

Don't you just love these? Not only are they sparkling with glitter they are also studded!

I could do with something like this - Fabric makes them more vibrant

Ruby Red Glitter Flats Like Dorothy Wore - Are you a fan of Wizard of Oz?

Well almost like Dorothy as her shoes did have small heels but I was never a fan of that type... I prefer the flats or high heels.

Most red glitter flats are made with sequin which I think looks a bit tacky but these are covered with glitter and this does look way more glamorous.

I am one of those who thinks each and every woman should own a pair of red shoes and I do, I have a pair of red snake-skin high heels and I love them. Add some glitter to the red and you get something fabulous!

Why not make your own?

You don't have to have major crafting (or well shoe making) skills to make your own pair of glittery shoes!

These were 4.99 and thus were perfect to play around. Even if this is an almost no-fail project I do recommend you go with cheaper shoes for the first time to see if you like how they turn out - I imagine not all glitter will work the same and the final product might not be the way you imagine it. On that note I have to say I am really happy with the result, the glitter - which I got at the dollar store (4 pack for a dollar) turned out great and didn't fall off.

Let's make them!

  1. Clean the shoes. Clean them well!
  2. If you don't want to cover the whole shoe do as I did - make a "stencil" with duct tape.
  3. Apply Mod Podge to the shoe, covering the places you want to glitterize!
  4. Add glitter and let the glue dry.
  5. Remove the duct tape and any excess glitter. When it's all dry you can apply another layer of Mod Podge to super secure the glitter.

Glitter away!

These turned out great! I probably wouldn't feel comfortable walking around in all hot pink glitter shoes (unless they would be for a special occasion) but this way they are not too flashy and still have the pinky shine!

Emerald Green is the Color of 2013 - Following up with the trends

If you are keeping up with fashion (well and home decor for that matter) you know the color of this year is Emerald!

I do like the emerald color very much but when it comes to shoes I think I would rather go with lime or mint green (which are also ok for this season). But I can see how a pair of these would work great next to black jeans and a fancy purse (which doesn't have to be the same color as shoes by the way).

What kind of glitter flats would you like to have?

Cute lens. Here in Chiang Mai my students are obsessed with glittery jelly shoes. Have to admit I'm tempted to join their crew!

Very cute. The shoes turned out nice. I got a pair of 10 dollar sodas and used crystals to stud them. It took me a few hours though. DIY shoes give a nice personal style.

Haven't had a red pair of shoes in some time, but I used to (with matching purse of course). New shoes = new outfit = place to wear them ... Hum... Sounds good to me. The shoes turned out great. Nice job.

Cute! I have a really narrow heel so finding flats that fit me is quite the task, but I know some people that would really like a pair of glitter flats!

First, I wear flats all the time. But hey, I'm a guy and wearing heels leads to all sorts of trouble. And second, I'm sort of ordinary, so I leave the glitter and wild colors alone.

@Rhonda Lytle: Thanks, I think the full pink glitter would be just to much. I did get an idea about making polka dots...

@anonymous: Zebra print would be fun and it's a popular print! I think it could be done at home too with some silver white glitter and black flats... Hmm =)
