Black Lipstick is Chic and Classic or Vintage Gothic

Way back, at the start of Punk, you couldnt buy black lipstick you had to get creative and make your own black lipstick look. I remember at the dawn of Punk using black eyeliner or kohl and finishing it off with a slick of lip gloss (cherry flavour). It played havoc with the lips!

You dont have to do that now.

There are great and gorgeous black lipsticks by all the pros that are smoothly creamy and will care for your lips moisturising as well as beautifying.

Why choose black lipstick? Well, black is back for 2013. Moschino Cheap & Chic London Fashion Week teamed black lipstick with a black smoking trousers.

Black lipstick beauty tips

For a Gothic look of course there are no holds barred but for a classic look with black lipstick think about these beauty tips:

  • No dark eyes so you don't get the Halloween look
  • Clear, filmstar eyeliner looks good
  • False eye lashes add to the classic film star look
  • Pale foundation for contrast - but not too pale (remember Halloween look?)
  • Make lipstick outline super crisp by starting with liner
  • Black lipstick and lip gloss look great

My Pick Of the Best Black Lipsticks Around - Yes, it's Manic Panic all the way

Who could resist a name like this?

Manic Panic Lip Locked Lipstick, Lethal, 0.11 Ounce
Manic Panic Lip Locked Lipstick, Lethal, 0.11 Ounce

I've chosen this lipstick as my first choice for several reasons. The lipstick is great, the case is cool and I love that Lethal name.

One of Manic Panic's smoldering lipstick shades guaranteed to be dramatic. but that's not all - Manic Panic black will look after your lips. Thick and creamy it feeds and nourishes your lips with lips with vitamins A, C and E and it's super long lasting. Get Manic protection for moist and kissable lips.

This lipstick is cool but cruelty-free - it's 100% vegan

Black Lipstick is Chic and Glam

Wear it if you dare!

I love HD (high definition) eyebrows, black leather jacket, black lipstick and pale, pale skin. Definitely a winning look. The key to black lips is clean lines and no fuss finishes.

Why not be a dark horse?

So easy to be smoothly and darkly mysterious with these black beauties. Moist, shiny, sleek and powerful with names to remember. Wet and Wild? True fantasy makeup.

The History of Black Lipstick

Yes - it's a 70s thing

Back in the 50s actresses wore black lipstick in horror films but for real life it came onto the scene in the late 70s and remained popular well into the 90s becoming a central part of Punk and Goth subculture.

The black lips were teamed with black eyeshadow and pale, white skin. Vamp!

.... but the lipstick is certainly very dark to get maximum contrast. It looks wonderfully retro!
