The-Bodycon-Dress

Updated on December 28, 2013

Slimmer? Curvier? From a Dress?

If I told you that you could put a Bodycon dress on and look like you were 10 lbs slimmer or much curvier than you are , would you believe me?

Introducing, the "Bodycon Dress" , one of the hottest picks of the season and it does just that!

I think every woman has always known that dark colors make you look smaller, light colors larger. But with the Bodycon Dress, strategic placement of cut-outs in dark colors and light colors create the illusion of adding curves, enhancing or diminishing your bustline or have you appear taller, slimmer and leaner.

It's a dress style that can go from daytime office to evening nightclub depending on how you accessorize it and though some women may think it's "too snug for me", I'm going to show you how you too can wear it.

A Slimmer You

The "How To"

The objective of the Bodycon (definition: Body Conscious) is to make you appear curvier or slimmer, neither of which is accomplished by the dress this model is wearing.

While it is a striking look, all you see is the crazy and wild pattern before you even notice it is indeed a slimming pattern. It would probably work better in different hues of the same color rather than such constrasting colors.

If you are on the plus size or very thin, it's much better to go with a plain color with a waist slimming cut-out in another complimentary color or a tone on tone.

No matter what your size most floral patterns and pastels are going to make you look either the same size or much larger.

A lot of people ask "how do I know if a body-con dress is too small?". Well, it's too small if you're ripping the seams. If the seams are NOT pulling, then it fits fine. The bodycon by design is made to make you look smaller, however it doesn't mean you purchase a smaller size. When ordering, buy the size you normally would take.

How to Accessorize The Bodycon

There's no doubt about it. There's a thin line between an "out for the evening" look and the "cheap & trashy" look with a Bodycon. How you accessorize this dress will make all the difference.

If you're young (in your 20's) a bright colorful or floral Bodycon with a strappy pair of sandals or platforms is a fun and flirty look. If you're over 30+ you might want to tone it down.

You can wear the form-fitting Bodycon without a jacket if you lower the heels (pumps) and pair down the jewelry. This looks great with a pair of pumps or sandals with a kitten heel. Just enough lift to be feminine, but not trashy. If you feel a little shy, add a lace shawl.

For a conservative spin, a boxy or tapered below the hip jacket gives you free reign to accessorize as much as you want depending on where you're going.

Just remember one rule of fashion. If the Bodycon is a solid color, you can accessorize with bracelet, earrings, necklace. If it has a pattern, just wear earrings and a simple bracelet. Your accessories should enhance the dress, not over-power it.

I do need to shape up more. I enjoyed your article on the bodycon dress. It was kind of exciting because you put so many picture and things in it.

@Gypzeerose: It's all in the illusion. If you take a look at the white dress in the photo, your eyes are drawn to the line/curve of the dress in black, which gives the illusion of being smaller. Try one on that has the lines like that or the black one from Amazon. I am sure you'll look smaller.
