The Most Fabulous Hand Cream in the World!

Updated on October 20, 2014

During my fifteen years working as a registered nurse my hands were always dry, chapped, and cracking open from repeated hand washing and applications of antibacterial hand gel. When my hands became so dry, my skin broke down and began to bleed; this presented a potential entryway for bacteria. Unfortunately, as a healthcare provider, I was stuck in a catch twenty-two, I could moisturize my hands, but the more I washed my hands, the worse they became. Even now, my hands are still dry and rough even though I am no longer practicing nursing. I tried every "wonder" product on the market, Cetaphil, Aquaphor, Cerave, and Palmer's just to name a few. All of these products were too sticky, greasy, smelly or just did not hold up to continual hand washing. I thought I would just have to live with this problem, that is, until I found L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.

One day a few years ago, a couple of my coworkers and I were discussing how bad our hands were despite all of the different moisturizers we used. One of the doctors we worked with chimed in saying how bad her own hands had become, too. Then she mentioned how she had used this amazing hand cream from L'Occitane in the past and loved it. Of course, this got all of our attention right away! Everyone wanted to know all about this hand cream, and why she liked it. She told us the cream contained twenty percent shea butter and was the best hand cream she had ever tried. I had heard what a marvelous moisturizer shea butter is, but had not used it before.

So, that weekend, off I went to the local L'Occitane store at the mall and tried out some L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I was instantly hooked! It is the most luxurious hand cream I have ever used. It did not have a strong perfume or medicinal scent, like so many other hand creams. It was not greasy, did not leave a sticky residue and quickly absorbed into my skin. I was hesitant about buying it, but the sales associate told me one tube should last me about a year and that, if it did not work, I could return it. I was super impressed when the salesperson told me this product contained honey, almond extract, coconut oil, in addition to shea butter, which are all natural ingredients. This product contains no chemical compounds I needed to look up online and decipher what they are used for. So, I figured nothing else is working, so why not give this product a try? I applied the hand cream before going to bed that night, and when I got up the next morning my hands were so much better! My hands were no longer red and cracked, in fact, my hands were noticeably softer. In addition, the areas where my skin had broken down were much improved. You can imagine how thrilled I was to find this marvelous product! I have been a loyal convert to L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream ever since, and have given it as gifts to several of my relatives. Finally, a tube does last me about a year, just like I was told. If you suffer from chronically dry chapped, hands I encourage you to try L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. It truly is the best hand cream in the world!

I also swear by this product! My feet ache so badly sometimes, especially after being on them for many hours. The peppermint oil in this foot cream works wonders! Instantly soothes my tired achey tootsies.

This product sounds like it's perfect for me. I find that a lotion that works well for me stops doing the job after a period of use. Curel is the one I use now and it's starting to go the say route, not as effective as it was a few years ago. I'll give this one a try. Yes, I've used shea products and a nice rough washcloth is my favorite skin care product.

@VioletteRose LM: Shea Butter is an amazing moisturizer for skin and hair. I have used hair care products with shea butter, but it was one of multiple ingredients. This cream really helped heal the raw, cracked skin on my hands. I have used nothing else since I discovered it. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by my lens VioletteRose!

I haven't found one yet, and I've tried from all over the world products. I do like Nivea from Germany, but not the one from here. I'm a habitual hand washer and I have very dry skin because I don't have a thyroid. This cream you mentioned is something I need to look into...thanks for sharing!

@Mary Crowther: Thanks for the comment Maree T! It really does help with the dryness and the itching and cracking which stems from the dryness! I use most in the winter, but every night year around.
