Great iPad Backpacks That Also Carry Other Essentials
What backpacks are the best for the Apple iPad 2 / 3 / 4?
Are you looking for a backpack for your iPad? More than just a fashion statement, these packs are designed to carry your most treasured item. Protecting your iPad from both damage or loss is just a good practice since Apple products are not cheap. These bags also make great gifts for friends and loved ones. I recently got one for my brother and he uses it to store his tablet, laptop and books for college.
iPad bags are also good for other purposes beyond transporting the tablet wherever you go, such as bringing other items along with like books, laptops, etc. with you. Today, your options better than ever. Unfortunately, some of the backpacks on the market don't quite meet expectations. That is why I created this review of the Top 3 iPad Backpacks, so you can see the benefits and features that the bestsellers have to offer.
Narrowing the Search to the Top Rated Backpacks for iPad on Amazon - Amazon's selection is vast and their prices very competitive
There are a couple of things that you will want to keep in mind when shopping for a backpack for your iPad. The first thing is that the construction and material is of good quality. Having a poor quality product that you have to replace yearly will not work. There are plenty of options on the market so that you can get the best for your money (one that doesn't wear out easily). Other things that make a great product are the general style points it gets. Since you will be wearing this on your back, keeping fashion in mind is a top priority. Here are some that I recommend checking out:
Thule Crossover Backpack - Top Choice - Fits iPads, MacBooks, and Laptops up to 17 inches
The Thule Crossover is a great iPad backpack that is stylish and functional. Having a backpack that can carry both your laptop or tablet is extremely useful. This particular model has a dedicated sleeve just for the iPad. There is plenty of room inside the pack to store other important items like books, clothing, snacks, etc. A separate compartment for your phone or other fragile items that is heat molded, which keeps those valuables from getting crushed.
Located towards the bottom of the backpack, there is a zippered compartment that can easily store your plugs and other items like a charging apparatus. A cushion on the back makes wearing this item a for extended periods of time really simple and comfortable. The straps also adjust for maximum comfort and fit.
You may be still asking why this one is a top pick, well the icing on the cake is that Thule guarantees this product against any defects for 25 years (that's a nice warranty and it speaks volumes about what a great product your getting). Although the price is a little more than some of the other ones on the market, you are getting one of the best, one that you won't have to replace in a couple of years.
Targus 26 Backpack - Great all around backpack for laptops, tablets, books or whatever else you want to carry
I have had good experiences with all types of Targus bags. They are affordable and they last a long time (ideal for students). The Targus 26 backpack is traditionally designed to carry up to a 16 inch laptop, but it also has its own dedicated sleeve for the iPad. I recently picked up this model and I love it. It is stylish, the straps are designed to give the backpack a snug and comfortable fit around the body. I will try to add some of my own pictures soon so you can see the complete backpack (inside and out).
Other features that I enjoy about the Targus Sport is the dedicated spot for an iPhone, iPod touch, or my iPod Nano. There is a single internal wire that allows you to plug in the device and connect a pair of headphones directly to the outer strap of the bag (very convinent and makes it simple to listen to podcasts or music on the go). The only thing I wish they would have included in this backpack was an option to adjust volume and tracks on the iPod/iPhone. Instead, I have to open the bag to manually change them (not a huge deal but those things would be nice to have).
Belkin Backpack (Slim Version) - Superlight and Streamline
The Slim Belkin Backpack only weighs 2 pounds and is super durable. Originally designed to transport up to 15 inch laptop, the Belkin Slip pack does surprisingly well in carrying other essential items. The nice part about getting a Belkin is they are slim and not a noticeable as some of the other models covered here. They kind of remind me of a jet pack....vroooom!
Originally designed to transport up to 15 inch laptop, the Belkin Slip pack does surprisingly well in carrying other essential items. It provides a nice snug fit for your electronic goodies in a plush liner. The other nice feature is the headphone hole in the music pocket, which is designed for the active music listener who wants to store their player in the pack but also be able to listen to their tunes anytime.
There are currently two colors to choose from: grey or black. Removable pouches make it easier to keep the bag lightweight. Even though this pack is super small, you will be surprised how much you can actually fit easily into the pockets.
Case Logic Backpack - Water Resistant and Scratch Proof Entry Point
Loading your iPad is a snap with this well designed backpack. The Case Logic RBP-115 pack has a top loading pocket to keep your tablet from getting scratched. The nice and soft material liner also adds another layer of protection. Case Logic has a couple of other sizes for this style and if you also feel like picking up a sleeve for your laptop, this company also carries some.
A pocket located in the middle of the pack is perfect for school items like books, folders, or other useful day to day items. A front pocket holds things like pens, phones, and other accessories.
The warranty on this item is also a selling point (25 years) and gives peace of mind if anything were to happen within that time frame to the workmanship or material.
Other Backpacks That Will Carry Your iPad
Here are a few more options that you can use to store and transport your tablet safely and easily
Sling Backpacks for iPad - An alternative to traditional backpacks
If you prefer a single strap carrying case for your iPad then check out a couple of these sling sacks. These are great if you are on the go and need a carrying case that is quick and easy to put on. They also tend to be thinner than regular tablet backpacks (which means slightly less space to put additional items that standard packs can carry).
The Solo Storm has enough space to accommodate an iPad or other tablet up to ten inches. It can also be adjusted to work on both the left or right side of the body.
The iBackFlip sling has several features that are really useful for iPad users. These include an auto sleep or wake-up case, compartments for other cables and even enough space to house a small set of headphones.
The Protec Sling doesn't look as cool as the other slings but you'd be surprised at how durable and protective it can be. The inside has extra padding so your iPad stays snug and secure.
Cheap iPad Backpacks - If you're in the market for discount backpacks check out these from eBay
I picked up a brand new Targus laptop backpack on eBay that has a dedicated pouch for the iPad and it was cheaper than anywhere else, including Amazon.
