The 5 Best Tan Towels Brands Reviews and Results

Updated on April 6, 2012

Top 5 Tan Towels

Have you tried tanning towelettes yet? No, well you should because they will change your pale life. Tan towels are the only safe method I have found that will give you a realistic, long lasting, streak and stink free tan. I loooove to bake in the sun, but after a certain age, when the freckles and brown spots start to appear, it's time to stop. I have tried almost every self tanner on the market, high and low, trying to recreate the bronzy beach glow that I desire.

Let me save you some time and money, don't even bother with self tanning lotion. Even the high end stuff smells awful and will streak or turn you orange. Tanning towelettes are the way to go and here are the top 5 based on my own personal research and others reviews.

#1 Kate Somerville Somerville360 Tanning Towelettes

The best of the best is Kate Sommerville 360 Tanning Towelettes.

What it is:Towelettes containing paraben-free self-tanning formula to give you a quick and even application with no streaking.

What it does:These hydrating towelettes will produce a uniform, natural-looking glow on the skin within two to four hours with one easy application. For a deeper tan and to maintain your glow, use another towelette and reapply as needed.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Dyes- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- GMOs- Triclosan

Pros: Even, natural, long lasting color.

No smell. You can apply it in the morning and go about your day.

The face towels exfoliates and will not stain hands.

Cons: The price! They are expensive but they are the best. Worth a splurge for a special event or beach vacation.

Do I recommend: YES!

#2 Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pad

The runner up is Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pad. What the company claims - Provides odorless, streak-free application & long lasting customized color. AHAs exfoliate dry, dull skin & help minimize appearance of dark spots & pores. Minimizes imperfections and limits the need for foundation. Active Vitamin D & Soy Protein create a natural healthy glow

The Pros:

Great results after just one application.

Long lasting, even color.

Exfoliates and has anti-aging properties.

The Cons:

Slight odor but it goes away. You could use it in the morning a still go about your day.

This pad is for your face only. They don't make a body formula.

Once again, the price! But the pad is pretty generous and you could cut it in half for two applications. Also, when you factor in the exfoliating and anti-aging properties its not too bad. Its also available on Amazon Subscribe and Save for 15% off!

They claim to fade dark spots and I have not found this to be the case for me and I've been using them for a while. But your dark spots will look way less noticeable with this tan.

Do I recommend: YES!

#3 COMODYNES Self-Tanning Towelettes

The Number One selling wipes in Europe, Asia and South America but sorry, you are my #3. Used and endorsed by Celebrities including, the entire cast of "Friends", Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate (The Anchorman), Lindsey Lohan, to name a few; featured on NBC Today with Katie Couric. Provides a uniform and natural looking tan in 2 - 3 hours. 100% NATURAL VISCOSE towelette, safe enough to use around the eyes.

Pros:

Not orderless but the smell is quite pleasant. Not too self tanner-y.

Natural color in just 2-3 hours.

Moderately Priced.

Cons:

One towel wont cover my entire body so I use two but feel that's a bit wasteful.

Color doesn't last as long as the above two. I need to reapply 2x a week as opposed to 1x with the other two.

Do I recommend: YES!

#4 Tan Towel Self-Tan Towelette For Face & Body

Probably the most famous and popular tanning towelette on the market today is the Tan Towel (cleaver name.) What it is:A self-tanning towelette. What it does:Each Tantowel Towelette is concentrated with a self-tan formula to give you a quick and even application with no streaking, mess, or fuss. It has a light, citrus fragrance and produces a uniform, natural-looking glow within two to four hours. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Synthetic Dyes- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- Triclosan

Pros:

Dries quickly. Color appears in 2 to 4 hours.

Has a non offensive scent that will dissipate so you can apply in the morning. Some reviewers didn't like the smell but I didn't find it too bad. I only used it a night though.

Moderately priced and usually on sale @ Amazon.com.

Cons:

I found the color to be not as natural as the others. Not really orange-y, just not as naturally brown.

You need to be careful applying this, especially on knees and feet, because it can streak and stain.

You may need two towels to cover your face and body.

Do I recommend: YES!

#5 L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes

Bring up the rear is L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes. The claim: These are convenient, single use wipes that provide exactly the right amount of self tanner for a natural looking tan.

Pros:

Affordable and readily available at most drugstores. It's also available on Amazon Subscribe and Save for an additional discount.

Dries quickly.

Cons:

The smell! I would only recommend using this at night and showering in the morning.

The color was more orange than tan.

The application is not foolproof. You need to be very careful to avoid streaking.

Color fades quickly.

Do I recommend: No. The reviews on these are pretty mixed. People either love them or hate them. I might have found these acceptable if I didn't try any of the above four first.
