I don't care about hair too much, but my loved ones do. I had to figure out a way to avoid transplant and look good too. This is the result.

Hair Loss Concealing - Toppik or Caboki - Which One is Better

Hair thinning concealing methods are one of the most inexpensive and effective ways to cover your scalp, reduce the obvious hair loss, and give back you the lost confidence. Thinning hair can be sometimes a temporary problem, and when dealt with properly, goes away, but what you do in the mean time?

If your image is important to you, you need to do something to preserve your good looks. Many solutions for concealing the hair thinning exist, however we will review the cosmetic solution that consists in thickening the hair using fibers.

Combing Bald Hair
Combing Bald Hair

Cosmetic Hair Thickening Using Fibres

Cosmetic hair thickening solutions are tiny fibres, that stick to your hair and increase its volume and reduce the appearance of baldness.

The hair thickening fibers can be made from different materials ranging from keratin, or synthetic fibres to natural plant fibers.

Some solutions rely on the fibres' bonding properties in contact with hair, some will need a specially formulated spray to make the tiny particles adhere to the hair.

Based on these properties every solution has its advantages, and it is a mater of personal choice which one you choose. Following, I will present the best cosmetic solutions for hair thinning on the market, and the most asked questions about them. Feel free to participate in the comment area if you want to share your experience with others.

Caboki - How Does Caboki Work

Caboki is a powder made of tiny fibers taken from the plant Gossypium Herbaceum. The researchers at Caboki tested many other materials, and found that this was the best for concealing the hair thinning. It works great because it sticks better to your hair, eliminating the need of a hair spray. It is less irritant than anything else, the least itching for the vast majority of people. The fact that they use all natural dyes makes it so much more wearable. Many people who used other products before Caboki, liked it the best.

Downside - it is not waterproof, as the company would like us to believe, but it is certainly the best concealer without a hair spray.

Toppik - How Does Toppik Work?

Toppik hair building fibers are keratin made tiny fibres that bind to the existing hair giving it more volume and thickness, decreasing the appearance of balding. The formula is similar to the nanogen one, because it uses keratin. The makers of Topppik have came up with a great assortment of other products to help the application of the product. They have a special spray for a better control when applying and a hairline optimizer, which controls the application of the fibers at the hairline for a natural look.

For a better durability, they have a separate product, the "Fiberhold Spray" which will help the product stick better to the hair. The product is not waterproof and it comes off relatively easy, but it looks natural and it feels natural.

Nanogen - How Does Nanogen Work?

Nanogen uses the nanofibres a unique formulation of keratin, cut and shaped to maximize the adherence to your hair. The nanogen jar, has a special design to charge electrostatic the fibres. The electrostatic charge is the charge that makes the fibres stick to your hair. The nano-fibres are also a special coating to provide the perfect electrostatic charge.

The great thing about keratin is that it is the same material as your hair, so it looks like your hair, it is natural, it doesn't create irritation, and are very safe.

The downside is that if you want to fix the nanofibers to your hair you have to use the Fibre Locking Spray. It is somehow not openly advertised on their documentation, but you find out by using the product.

Dermmatch - How Does Dermmatch Work?

Dermmatch products are cosmetics using a special coating formula, that is applied on the hair giving it a full thickness. The product comes in two options wet and dry. Most of people who used it, liked better the wet formula, because is easier to control and has better results. The coating looks great and it is water resistant and it won't come off on your pillowcase. The dermmatch approach is to coat the hair and color the scalp for a better appearance.

The downside is that you need a fair amount of hair for best results. In other words it works with mild thinning areas. If you have a more pronounced thinning, you can use dermmatch in combination with any powder, like toppik, caboki, or nanogen. The other downside is that, for long hair, you need to choose wisely your hairdressing since the coloured hair will rub your skin, forehead, ears, etc... leaving marks.

To sum up, for spots that are not very large, this is the best product to put on before hitting the beach. You know how much more noticeable is the problem spot when your hair is wet... Well, you can rely on Dermmatch to make that spot disappear.

Other Cosmetic Hair Thickening Solutions

Hair Cubed Hair Building Fiber - Water Proof

This is a great product, it is waterproof and the application is very easy and precise because of the special design.

Hair Cubed comes in a spray can, that contains both the fibers and the bonding agent. This minimizes the product waste and gives you a great control over the application precision.

People have found that using Hair Cubed together with another concealer, such as Toppik or Caboki, works best minimizing the product use and combining the best in the two products.

The downside of using this spray is that it has a strong smell, and if you are sensitive to strong smell you need to take precautions like open windows, start the fans, etc. Despite the initial smell Hair Cubed does not leave any lingering smell on your hair, and it is harmless for your scalp.

XFusion Keratin Hair Fibers

The XFusion hair cosmetic thickening powder is made of keratin fibers. It is a great product and you will love how your hair looks when using it.

They also sell an applicator for easier and more even application.

This product can be used by both men and women, providing a great volume regardless of the hair length.

For extra stickiness of the fibers, use the X-Fusion Fiberhold Spray.

Topik is the only hair fiber brand I have tried so I'm not sure how they compare to other brands, but I love the natural look and it last all day. I've even swam with it with combined with the the topik spray and though the fibers fade a little- my hair still looks full!

Try Top Secret Hair Thickening fibers. I think it's by far the best brand. No color residue, can never see the fibers all over the place, and by far the best applicator of any and I've tried them all.

As someone else said, be careful putting too much hairspray on for a natural look and less potential for scrutiny. Perhaps more hairspray would be better for a dressier look and of course weather conditions.

i just tried topic for the first time today. im pretty impressed with the result. i did make sure my hair was dry and i used a lot of hair spray. i haven't really been sweating, so im not sure how that will work. it will get on your hands if you catch your head or touch your hair, but other than that, it looks really good. I asked a few people and no one could tell.

    • Anonymous 2 years ago

Toppik is great. It's totally undetectable and easy to use. Great product!!

    • anonymous 2 years ago

P.S. - To apply this stuff, your hair really needs to be dry. Otherwise it just soaks up the moisture and gets clumpy. Lastly, forget running a comb through your hair after applying. You'll brush it right out. Blow dry, style, sprinkle, wait a few minutes to see where it needs more and then spray lightly. Even too much hairspray will clump it up.

Haven't tried Toppik... but I much prefer Nanogen over Caboki. However, both Caboki and Nanogen can be messy... assume Toppik is, too. They sprinkle like a powder and don't hold up to perspiration, wind or water of any kind... so don't go thinking these products are bullet proof. When you sweat, the stuff balls up on your scalp. It looks even worse than no product at all. A good, stiff wind can also blow the stuff off your head... I don't care how much Aqua Net you cover it with. And I've read somewhere that people say you can wash your hair and keep it in. Are you kidding me?! The minute you drop your head under the shower nozzle you're going to see colored water at your feet. I've actually put the stuff on and laid on the carpet to pet my dog... guess what? A dark pile of Nanogen on the floor. Again, works great but I find myself always worrying if it's blown off or I perspired too much and look like a leper. I guess you wind up self conscious either way. So can it work? Sure. Just be aware this stuff does have some limitations.

Jon Cryer uses Kerathik hair building fibers. great product.

    • anonymous 2 years ago

Started using Toppik and at first, the sprinkle of the shaker really didn't distribute the product evenly. So I bought the applicator and the results were unbelievable. Can very easily apply product to areas evenly, especially around the front hairline. Haven't had any problems with hair turning green or itchy scalp.

Kerathik hair building fibers are used by A lister celebrities.

+1 for Nanogen then Toppik. Tried Caboki with free trial - not impressed. Service is good but no idea where they come up wuth no need for spray. I used all the fibers and nanogen is best by far

hey guys, do try Ecobell, 99,6% keratine and 25 euros for 50 grammes, so half an euro the gramme and it works as much as the other brands. ;)

    • anonymous 4 years ago

I've bought my boyfriend Nanogen and Toppik over the past few years because he was considering getting transplant surgery and I wanted to avoid that for now. Originally he used Toppik, but I started finding the the medium brown didn't quite match his color and black was too black. Additionally, Toppik seemed to "fall" to the scalp as opposed to bind to the hairs. So I did some research and found Nanogen and thought we'd give it it a try. Personally, I think Nanogen works MUCH better than Toppik and the color match is perfect. And the fibers seem to bind with his existing hair much better than Toppik. I also buy him the Nanogen fiber locking mist and it works much better than my hairspray (for this product). I must note though, that we purchased the original Toppik spray applicator a few years back, and it works way better compared to the new Toppik spray applicator they offer (I don't know if Nanogen offers a spray applicator). I also should note that I usually do his hair for him each morning before work, so he's on the lucky side. He has me as an extra pair of eyes to make everything always look natural. :) But it only takes about 5-10 minutes and really does look great as long as you don't overdo it.

    • anonymous 4 years ago

Sorry folks but Nanogen is not only known as the best in Europe and Asia but actually has independent trial showing its 400% better. Nanogen and Toppik are Keratin and look real. Caboki is a copy and is made of Cotton (they use the fancy Latin name to blind you with science). Keratin obviously matches hair better. All you Caboki people should given Nanogen a go and report back.

Toppik is the best by a mile.Natural and looks really really good .

I have tried dermatch. It works good , but I have not tried the others to compare, yet //

Toppik Fiberholdspray is simply the best.

Or Caboki works better for you?

Coboki so far is my top choice! I tried Toppik fibers because they were less expensive but I do get the feeling a lot is wasted and just piles onto the scalp- so can Caboki but it didn't seem as bad- I have not tried Nanogen-I hadn't heard of it until this page and am curious because of the rave on here about it-however it seems more spendy and Caboki literally gave me my life confidence back. When I taper of prednisone i have huge hairloss. Hopefully it will grow back but until then I am not worried about my scalp showing anymore. Kudo's to the people who invented this!

      • anonymous 3 years ago

        does it gain hair.

      • anonymous 3 years ago

I tried Caboki and then Nanogen - OMG - completely different product - Nanogen is in a different league - can't believe this is even a debate - Do you guys all know that even though Caboki make such a big deal on their website about it being Gypsium something, this is just the scientific word for Cotton - Grrr i hate that kind of sales stuff. When you order Nanogen you see the difference.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

try miracle hair actually... exact same stuff as caboki, just cheaper.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

I like beer. Caboki works for the hair but beer still adds some confidence as well.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

I have used Toppik and it is horrible. It doesn't work at all for me, just makes it look like I have a scalp with weird little piles of dark powder. Does nothing for the hairs themselves. Keep in mind that I have only a small area of thinning on the top of my head. I have no actual bald spot. Toppik was a waste of money. Haven't tried Caboki yet and hope it works because Toppik absolutely does not.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

I have not used Toppik, but I use Caboki, and it is a frikkin' miracle product. I used to avoid standing under lights. Now I can stand anywhere, stopped wearing a hta indoors, and feel I look great. I can even comb my hair after the product is on. 59 year-old male.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

I haven't tried Toppik because I didn't need to. Once I tried Caboki I was hooked. I am a 56-year-old woman with *seemingly* thick curly/wavy hair with cowlicks and sparser hair toward the roots....besides it growing in completely gray. Caboki is a life-changer. I have new confidence and I believe people when they tell me I look so much younger than my years.

      • anonymous 4 years ago

Caboki is a God send! And NATURAL!!!! Really worked for me. Now I use it every day for my severely thinning hair where my scalp would show in many places. Caboki is a 40 year old womans dream solution. Thank you Caboki

        caboki hands down.

Coping With Baldness - An Inspirational Story about a Bald Pageant Beauty

      FDA
      FDA

FDA Status for Caboki, Dermmatch, Toppik and Nanogen

I hear many people asking. is Caboki FDA approved or is Toppik approved by the FDA? Well they don't need an FDA approval, because they are simple cosmetic solution for your hair. They are very safe to use, and can be used at home without any problems. But remember, we are only talking here about the cosmetic solution.

Rogaine for Men Hair Regrowth - Minoxidil Topical Easy-to-Use Foam

Rogaine foam is FDA approved for hair regrowth. The active ingredient is minoxidil, an antihypertensive vasodilator, and it is very effective.

It is true that minoxidil was accidentally discovered as a hair regrowth solution. Nonetheless, clinical tests showed visible improvements in 85% of men, when used twice daily. It is easily to apply and it dries quickly.

Don't waste any time, if you haven't tried this. 85% is a pretty darn good chance. Minoxidil works by improving the blood flow at the hair follicles, which will stimulate and strengthen the hair. It is prescribed for androgenic alopecia. Minoxidil will not work immediately, but rather after 3 to 6 months, so you have to use it regularly until you see progress.

      Derma Roller for Hair Stimulation

The roller's tiny needles massage your scalp, dramatically improving blood flow in your scalp, and doing so improves nourishment and oxygenation of the follicles. This is one of the most natural and healthy ways to improve the scalp's tone and blood flow, stimulating the hair retention.

I've used Caboki and it is very good. I have dark hair and a large - fist-sized bald patch on my crown and thin hair at the front, and it does a very good job covering that up, and looks like I have a full head of hair. I do also use a hairspray to keep it all intact as it is easy to touch some of the thinnest areas and have the stuff come off, leaving obvious scalp marks. I guess it all depends how thin you are on top to see if you will have fantastic or just average results.
