Tshirt Bikini Contest by The Pool
Summer is Here! Time to Throw a Tshirt Bikini Contest!
Bikini contests are are popular in the warm months of summer. For fun plan on throwing together a t-shirt bikini contest for ladies of all ages. I know personally that not everyone wants to wear a string bikini like when we were teens. For me and my friends, those days are long gone! But we still can sport a sexy look with these fun shirts.
Today, there are companies make these great shirts with cute little bikinis (and bodies) screen printed both on front and back. They are so much fun to wear that we plan a t-shirt bikini contest at the active retirement community where I work. I am amazed at how popular this event has become year after year.
We put a contest together that all ladies can enter and hold it by the swimming pool. Everyone brings a snack to share and we have a party. This is also a fun idea for family gatherings, neighborhood pool parties and even teen parties too. It is easy to put together and don't forget the camera!
These shirt bikinis are also fun to wear as a cover up at the pool or the beach even without a contest. There are so many styles to choose from online, that I would start looking for your favorite t-shirt bikini now before summer is over.
There are numerous styles and colors of bathing suits to choose from. Pick one that fits your own personality. The tie dye one is my favorite!
Planning a Tshirt Bikini Contest
I start working on it at least a couple of months ahead of time by picking the date to hold the contest. After I pick the contest or party date, I can get the word out to all who are invited so they can shop and buy their "bikinis".
I suggest a few online sites to find their own t shirt bikini. Since the ladies really get into this party, they want to find the most unusual shirt bikini pattern to be the "only one". It would be a good idea when sending or posting party flyers to include where they can purchase one of these fun shirts.
Start thinking about a theme for decorations too. Maybe you want to have your contest on the Fourth of July (USA), a Luau or tropical party, fun at the beach and more. There are many theme ideas at the party stores to get you started. We like to use beach party decorations such as shells, beach balls, sand pails and fake palm trees. I have held this contest in the evening since it is so hot during the day in the southwest and put up patio and twinkle lights for ambiance.
I also have "contestants" sign up so I know how many to expect. I like to give all contestants a Participation Award, plus trophies to the best t-shirt bikini contestant. If you want to have a true contest, line up a few "judges" from your community or group. They will have a good time trying to select the best bikini!
We do a potluck style party with everyone signing up to bring snacks. I provide the non-alcoholic beverages such as the Orange Punch recipe I put on this lens. We do let the party goers bring their own "favorite" beverage too. You can plan the food and drink part of your party as you like.
Again, don't forget the camera! Even a video clip of the contestants taking their walk in front of the audience or guests is fun for looking at again later on. Maybe show it at the next group party?

Hey Cowgirls, this one is for you!
Orange Punch Recipe
This is a very delicious recipe that I and my fellow activity directors use for our poolside summer parties. A quick and easy recipe too.
This recipe fills one punch bowl. I make one recipe per bowl that I plan on using. Sometimes, my pool party is over 100 residents attending which equals at least 5 punch bowls!
- 1 1/2 gallon Dole Pineapple Orange Banana Juice
- 1 6 ounce can frozen yellow lemonade
- 4 cans cold water
- 1 2 liter bottle gingerale
- 1 sliced orange
- Mix first 4 ingredients together in punch bowl. Add a small amount of ice and orange slices on top. Serve cold.
Check Your List!
Now that you have done your planning, sent out invitations, ordered your t shirt bikinis and decorations, it is the day of the party. Whether you are having your contest in your backyard, the neighborhood pool complex or at the beach, the first thing to do is get your list out. It isn't fun to forget anything!
These are the things I do before the contest begins:
- Assign my volunteers individual jobs to help me
- Set up the serving and judging tables with chairs
- Decorate the pool area and tables
- Make sure the boombox or audio system is working
- Make sure I have extra batteries for camera, mic and audio
- Check off the contestants as they arrive
- Put on background "beach" music
- Give the MC the list of contestant and judges' names
Of course your list may not need to be as detailed as mine, but a list is helpful. Plus the music really helps the atmosphere of the party and contest. Sometimes I hire a local band to play beach style music such as rock and roll of the 50's - 60's or island steel drum sound band. That will depend on what your budget is. Maybe you are lucky enough to know friends in a band who will play for free (or food)! It's all part of the fun.
I find a person to MC who has lots of personality and knows how to really work the crowd. Everyone has a great time when the contest lingers on a bit and each contestant feels special. I like giving each contestant a participation gift and then select as many categories for trophy winners as I can think of.
Here is my list of ideas for contest winners:
- Most Colorful
- Retro Bikini
- Themed Bikini
- Most Talented
- Best Personality
I am sure you can think of more ideas that fit your party. The sky is the limit!
Again, just remember FUN!
Perfect inexpensive little trophies for your contest. With a set of twelve, everyone can go home a winner!
