Underarm Skin Care and Armpit Whitening

Updated on February 7, 2015

Underarm Skin Care is now becoming more and more popular. With many of us neglecting some of the more hidden and intimate areas. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to raise your arms without worrying about what lies beneath? The skin can become dry and dark and ultimately quite irritable. There are a few reasons why the armpit area can start to look a little unattractive, these include shaving our armpits, when we shave we irritate the skin, deodorants can dry out the underarms and leave them looking tired, perspiration, and rubbing from our arms being down. There are also other medical reasons that can cause the skin to appear dark and worn, I will talk more about this later. You are in luck though, all is not over. You can lighten your armpits and whiten the skin. You can also treat it so the skin rejuvenates. It is not however an overnight process, and you should be patient and willing to try some different products and even perhaps some home remedies.

Home remedies

There are many home remedies out there on the internet, and it can be rather frustrating looking through each and every one and even more so time consuming in order to find the one that works for you. After all each and everyone of us has different skin, that's what makes us so unique. Some peoples skin is more sensitive, some is more tough so we need to work out what is right for you. I have included links to some of the ones I found most useful, and well wrote in the useful links section below.

Home remedies for lightening your armpits will mean using ingredients like fruits, herbs, baking soda etc so you may already have them in your cupboards or in your fridge now, if not be sure to write a shopping list next time you do your groceries. I won't go into to much detail about all home remedies I will just mention a few here for you and will list the rest in the useful links.

  1. Baking soda is probably the number one recommended "home remedy" the baking soda can act as a lightening agent. If you make a thick paste from the baking soda and water and apply every day to your armpits and underarm area after a few weeks you should begin to notice changes. I am not saying this is a miracle solution and I personally believe a few of the products readily available on the market do a quicker job with better results, however it does work, it just takes time and patience.

  2. Coconut oil is the second one I would like to mention, down to the vitamin E in the coconut oil this will help lighten your underarm skin while also soothing it. You will need to massage this into the skin for ten to fifteen minutes daily before showering.

  3. Potato is probably one of the best natural bleaching agents because of the acidity. There are 2 ways you can use the potato, you can take slices and gently rub underneath the armpits or you can use a juicer and take the juice and apply to the underarm area.

High Street Products

There are many well know High Street brands that have released products to help rejuvenate the skin under the armpits many with either bleaching agents (don't be scared of the word bleach) and with whitening effects. Some of them are not so good, however there are many that really will help and the reviews will speak for themselves. I'm just going to again mention a few of these products and write a little about each. Most of them are inexpensive and will last you a while, giving better results faster than the home remedies. Purely because these have been created by a team of scientists and experts after trialing combinations of many different ingredients.

Skin 79 has 32 5 star reviews on and more on the uk version of the site. It comes in a 40g tub of cream and is used usually as an anti wrinkle agent. The ingredients are full of nutrients that help keep skin resilient and lock in moisture. The balm has anti wrinkle and whitening properties and helps keep it bright and natural looking. It comes at a small price of $14.44

Marie France Professional Whitening kit comes at a bit of a bigger price $45 approximately, however it can be used for all intimate areas on the body where the skin may be a little darker or damaged. This is a stronger whitening serum and is used by dermatologists to treat hyper pigmentation in the buttocks, underarms, inner thighs and bikini region. The use of this is slightly more complexed so before committing to purchase please ensure you can stick to the procedures, they can be found on the Amazon page. You will peel using this product but it's all part of the rejuvenation process. It is reported that your skin will be 1 - 3 times lighter.

StarWhite lightening cream is specifically designed for the more intimate areas and underarms, the this cream is purely created with the tender skin whitening effect in mind. It comes in a 50ml container, and you have to apply the cream to the dark skin twice a day. The Starwhite is one of the leading brands for the intimate skin whitening especially since the trend of the controversial "anal bleaching" It is reported to start working with in the first 2 weeks and can be noticed by at least a shade. You can use the StarWhite on scars, blemishes, intimate areas, and even burns. A fair price of $34 it is a small price to pay for the freedom of white armpits.

To summarize home remedies vs products for lightening and rejuvenating the armpit and underarm skin, I would be more inclined to sway towards products due to the quicker effects most of the products can be found online so you don't even have to leave your front room, and most are inexpensive. Always remember to have a look through the reviews and see what other people are reporting, and no matter what you order do not expect results over night. If you use the right products and home remedies along with good skin care, and deodorants etc you can be sure your skin will start to look better and you in turn can start to feel more confident.

If you are working with a budget then try some of the home remedies I have mentioned and even the ones in the useful links below they do work but some can take commitment and a very long time to see any results. Please always remember to test any products, or home remedy treatments on a small patch of skin first to ensure that you aren't allergic, or react badly to it. If after trying these treatments you still notice no effects then you should look at a visit to your GP who will be able to talk to you more about options and treatments. Your diet also can play a very large part of your skin condition causing dark patches, try to watch what you eat and research the best diets for skin conditioning.

There are many websites and videos available on the internet if you Google armpits whitening or home remedies for dark skin you will be able to view more in depth tutorials and instructions.

Excellent hub with some really great home remedies. A lot of people neglect the under arm region due to the old adage of 'out of sight, out of mind'. However, by not taking the proper care of it such as the use of long term deodorants can damage the skin over time.

I've heard nothing but good things about coconut oil helping the skin, which has been compounded by this hub :)
