Vintage Dress Form

Updated on February 5, 2015

Romancing the Vintage Dress Form

A vintage dress form has a special romantic and nostalgic appeal for many women, possibly because they make us think of the excitement of having a pretty frock made for a special occasion.

You may be looking for a vintage dress form because you are a seamstress. Or because you own a boutique and want a unique dress form to display your fashionable clothes and jewelry, or even signage for your store. Or you may even want one for display as a conversational d├ęcor piece in your home.

I categorize dress forms into two kinds. Dress forms that are meant to be used for making clothes and forms that are meant to display clothes (essentially they are simplified mannequins). When it comes to vintage dress forms the kind that were originally meant for making clothes with are showing up in popular vintage and antique shops for display purposes and in homes as well.

You can find an actual vintage dress form or one that is just vintage in style and appearance.

If you love the look of vintage dress forms, but can't afford one right now or don't have room for one there are other options available to you. You can purchase a miniature dress form or find artwork that features vintage dress forms.

If you have a business you might want to use postcards, flyers, business cards and other items that feature a vintage dress form to help advertise your business as well.

Vintage Dress Forms on eBay

If you want an authentic, vintage dress form one of the best places to get one is on eBay, because you won't have to hunt around antique stores and flea markets *hoping* to stumble across one. They will also have vintage style replica dress forms on eBay too, as well miniature dress forms, artwork, and other things too.

Remember to include shipping costs in your budget for buying a dress form.

You can pin your fabric right into the form and you can even steam the fabric and change the pattern a hundred times right on the form. It has wheels that lock, so it won't move as you try to work with it. And the automatic metal stand allows you to adjust the height of your form with a touch of the foot pedal. Each form is hand crafted for top quality and the highest performance.

@anonymous: I would say eBay would be best, but another option would be if you want to sell it locally (so you don't have to ship it). If you need information on how to do so you can just search online for something like "how to sell" and then type in the name of either website. You could also see if there are any consignment stores in your area that could sell it for you...they may even want to buy it themselves for their own use.

We are retired and have downsized our home. I have a darling child's dress form we purchased at an antique market in Europe. It is very old. Size 25, made by Fredric Stockman in Paris. What is the best way for me to sell it?
