Finding Vintage Jewelry Boxes

Don't you just love the old world feel of vintage jewelry boxes?

Whether created as replicas or the original ones these Vintage Jewelry Boxes have the ability to evoke such historical images that you can literally get transported back in those times.

Vintage jewelry boxes are rare nowadays, but they can be such treasures in and of themselves. You don't need fancy, expensive jewelry to make one of these boxes truly valuable.

Before, if you wanted to get your very own vintage jewelry box you would've had to have a grandma or someone really old to pass one along to you as some type of inheritance or heirloom. You also had the option of going to garage sales, thrift stores or antique shops hoping you'd come across one of the vintage boxes.

But now it's easier to get your hands on these lovely items. With the options available online getting a vintage jewelry box is nowadays almost as easy as getting jewelry.

Types of Vintage Jewelry Boxes

There are the kinds that are genuinely antique in that they are very old pieces and are still in their original form. Depending on how old they are, they may cost you around a hundred to a few hundred dollars, and that's if they're in good condition.

Many of those boxes probably date back from within the last 100 to 150 years. If you happened across a vintage jewelry box older than that, then you're most likely looking at a lot more.

Other types of vintage jewelry boxes are replicas of the authentic ones. They're designed to look old and have the appeal of vintage.

Vintage jewelry boxes can derive from many cultures and many time periods. The most common types of vintage jewelry boxes you will find are the Chinese style jewelry boxes. These are typically made of wood with intricately carved details, multiple stacked drawers, a fold up mirror and sometimes even a lock and key. They can also have beautiful paintings within the box's interior as well as exterior.

Another type of vintage jewelry box would be the Victorian style boxes. These have a softer and more feminine exterior. They actually resemble pin cushions quite a bit with their embroidered fabrics. These boxes are often embellished with beads, rosettes and tassels.

The interior of the box is typically lined with silk or satin. These types of boxes aren't as multifaceted as the Chinese style ones. Victorian jewelry boxes only have one main compartment.

Finding Genuine Vintage Jewelry Boxes

Some older jewelry boxes were also made from metals like silver or copper giving the box a very heavy feel. They were very detailed with metal moldings, usually of floral designs. Sometimes they were footed, other times they just had a flat bottom. The tops of these boxes would come completely off and the inside would be lined with some kind of soft fabric, like velvet.

I just love old boxes. I can't resist collecting anything from old wooden grocery boxes to trinket boxes of all kinds. I think it all started as a child when I read the story of Eeyore's birthday present, but maybe it was Treasure Island, and all those chests full of jewels.

These are so pretty, but I have so little jewelry. Mine fits in a small box that fits in the palm of my hand. Still, I sure love these vintage jewelry boxes.

I have a jewelry box for many years, but it isn't vintage, yet.

These are nice Mother's Day gifts, or from any occasion. :)

I do have 3 real vintage Jewelry Boxes, 2 are family heritage, another I bought in an antique store. I don't use them for jewell tho since I have very few pieces, but use them as a decorative pieces and as an envelope / stamps /paper box on my desk.

These Vintage Jewelry Boxes are beautiful. My jewelry box was hand made by a friend about 30 years ago. It is a treasure, too.
