How to Create Your Own Wardrobe Remix

Updated on May 26, 2011

Is Your Capsule Wardrobe Ready for Summer?

A Wardrobe Remix with Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

As the days go warmer, it's time to create a capsule wardrobe plan for your summer wardrobe capsule. What will you be wearing as spring gives way to summer?

Do we need to squeeze in time for a wardrobe remix before it gets too hot?

Wardrobe Remix Quiz

In the video below, I have created a brief wardrobe remix quiz to help you decide if one will be necessary. I recommend capsule wardrobe evaluation at the end of every season to make sure you have all the essentials in place before the next season begins.

Your budget will determine the size of your summer wardrobe capsule (or any season's) but each capsule should have at minimum, 6-10 pieces in colors and styles that mix and match well. And the primary requirement is that it expresses your signature style and does it well.

I have been blogging this spring about my own wardrobe remix adventures and will continue sharing my experiences with my summer capsule wardrobe this summer.

Getting Started on Your Wardrobe Remix - Planning Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Start Small as You Build Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe

You can start with as few as six pieces and build your wardrobe capsule from there, adding on whenever your budget allows.

(1) One 3/4-sleeve cardigan

(2) One maxi dress or skirt

(3) Two tops

(4) Two pairs of pants

(5) A few accessories that go with all six pieces

When you are ready add up to four more pieces to complete your summer capsule wardrobe. Click here for ideas on how to create 30 days of outfits with only 8 pieces.

In the picture, I have started my spring and summer capsule wardrobe with six pieces during my participation in the Six Items or Less 30-day wardrobe challenge.

Road Test Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe with a 30-Day Wardrobe Challenge

Taking Your Wardrobe Remix to the Streets

At last count, I have participated in four 30-day wardrobe challenges and one 90-day wardrobe challenge, all in the effort to create my own wardrobe remix and find signature style. One of the 30-day wardrobe challenges is one I created myself.

Technically, the Dresses and Skirts has not yet started as of the time of this writing, but I have been deep in preparation for it, and because I will wear only dresses and skirts, have been road-testing my choices, already.

I am still amazed at how much I have learned about my own signature style just by participating in these wardrobe challenges that have lasted at least 30 days each! Because of them, I have been able to fill my closet with things that I love.

Listed below are several 30-day wardrobe challenges you can try, including the Dresses and Skirts challenge I created...

I write a personal style article each month for Hope for Women magazine and thought a couple of them might provide additional help in creating a summer capsule wardrobe.

Thanks so much for coming to visit! If you'd like, let me know what you think of my page.

@CleverMarketer: Hi Heather! I definitely will email you right after this reply. You're right that if you are a type one you need light and bright rather than harsh and dark, but one of the things Carol mentions in her book is that for type ones, their "black" is a dark chocolate brown (good news, huh?).

      Hi Jeanine,

Okay...I'm ready. :) Call me slow, but I want to know more about dressing your truth. I went to the website but I didn't want to buy the dressing your truth before I contacted you to find out how I can purchase through you...or how you're monetizing your marketing etc. :) You mentioned that you thought I was a type 1, which from what I can gather means no black, navy, or dark brown because they're too harsh...but being overweight, that's always what I'm drawn to. So I guess I need some help. :) Looking at my wardrobe I certainly don't have anything that I love that loves me back that isn't black. LOL

Please don't reply to my comment here but send me an email instead so I can purchase the Dressing Your Truth training through your affiliate link if you have one. :)

@Leanne Chesser: Thank you SO much, Leanne! I'm glad you liked it. And I bet it won't be long before you are sure! I just think there needs to be a little bit of space, a little time for "I don't know," and then, it will settle in and you'll just know.

Thanks, Jeanine! I love your videos and I appreciate the questions and steps you offer for creating a capsule wardrobe for any season. Of course, I have to decide what type I really am before I can move forward :). Your lens has been blessed by an angel :).
