Wedding Sarees Inspired by Bollywood Leading Ladies

Updated on August 15, 2014

Wedding Sarees inspired by Bollywood

Beautiful Bollywood stars wearing stunning bridal sarees either on the ramp or for their own weddings. A brilliant source of inspiration for all would be brides !

Bollywood inspired looks are not new, and brides have been looking to the silver screen to draw inspiration while creating their own perfect look. The reason I like the looks inspired by Bollywood stars (both on-screen and off-screen) is because every attention is paid to small details. Right from the flowers in the hair, to the right kind of footwear - every detail is carefully thought about. This is certainly inspirational!

What is a Wedding Saree?

A Saree is a Saree is a Saree, right ? Not really. There are many types of Sarees, and most notably, the ones used by Brides are usually very different compared to the "normal sarees".

So what is the reason a wedding saree is different? The saree is the same, but the biggest difference is in the embellishments and the detailing on the saree. In a normal saree, the detailing might be minimal, non-existant, but the ones used by brides are usually full of embroidered detailing.

Prints are not common and a lot of brides prefer to have a simple coloured saree and get a lot of detailing in the form of golden coloured embroidery, There is however an increasing trend amongst brides to try to minimise the amount of embroidery on their sarees.

Colours for a bridal saree are usually very traditional like red, pink, yellow or green. In recent times however, there has been an increasing trend to use unusual colours like Blues, Pastels and even Black. This might have been un-heard of some years ago.

A lot of inspiration is drawn from the silver screen and from the stars of the screen, when they are seen in their off-duty looks. So this page gives some of the key looks that have caught my eye

Iconic Bollywood weddings (in the movies)

In Bollywood folklore, there are some movies that have made an impact on the ok leftover persona of the Indian people when it comes to weddings. There are some movies and some on screen weddings that have acquired legendary status. Were the clothes the focal point? Not really. The stars were, but these stars are so iconic that you had people on the street aping their looks.

Iconic Bollywood weddings in Real Life

When bollywood stars get married in real life, the scene is right out of fairly tales normally. The settings, the guests, the glamour are all on show and for scrutiny by the media.

On screen, the stars shine and the same is the case in real life. Although the simpler looks are normally preferred by the stars off-screen. This is understandable and nonetheless, they still look absolutely stunning.

There are no favourites from the off-screen looks, but I certainly think that the simplicity of the looks - both the bridal sarees and the bridal lehengas - are something to draw inspiration from in the end.

Sizzling on screen diva sarees

A diva culture always exists on the silver screen and Bollywood has been no exception. The divas in recent years have become bolder on screen, with looks that would probably be considered outrageous some years ago. Some of the diva's who have sizzled on screen for everything including their looks and donning of traditional wedding sarees are,

Some Marriage scenes from Bollywood Movies

Love, Dancing and Marriages are an essential part of most Bollywood movies. The sets are elaborate and usually the movies have at least one song that features the big stars and even some guest stars at times.
