Which Is The Best Electric Razor For Shaving Your Head

Updated on September 11, 2017

What is the Best Electric Razor To Shave Your Head In The Shower?

So what is the best electric razor for shaving your head in the shower? This is the question my husband posed to me this morning (his birthday is next month.) So this led to some pretty extensive research to find the best electric razor for shaving your head in the shower. He has always used a blade but after some of his best friends always bragging about how they lover their wet/dry razors, he has decided to make a switch.

After a few phone calls and some online research, the Panasonic Vortex Arc 3 Wet/Dry Shaver has won me over. It is designed with the latest technology featuring both Nanotech blades and HydraClean for not only one of the closest shaves possible but also the comfort of having a clean razor every time. These are both features he was concerned about when making the switch from a blade razor, so this should take care of his concerns.

The pivoting head and powerful linear motor are the features that I attribute to its close shave capabilities. Clearly at the top of my list for the best electric razor to shave your head, and also the perfect birthday gift for my loving husband.

What type of Electric Razor Works the Best?

Foil or Rotary?

Actually you might be surprised to find out there is not a lot of difference.

What's the Difference Between Foil and Rotary Electric Razors? - Do you know?

Foil razors are usually designed with one or two floating heads which allows the razor to float or glide over the contours of your face. The blades are actually oscillating behind a perforated screen as it glides over the skin. Some of the pros of a Foil Shaver over the Rotary is it offers a closer shave and works great when trimming around beards, sideburns or a goatee. Men's foil razors seem to be slightly popular over rotary razors but when it comes to women using the foil razors designed for them, we have a different report. Be sure to be on the out look for a section devoted to women's electric razors!

Now on to the Rotary electric razor for men! You probably remember your Dad using one but let me just say they have come a long way over the last few years. A Rotary razor will have three or four floating heads that also are designed to glide over the contours of your face. The blades or cutters for the rotary razor spin behind a fine grid cutting the hair as it is pulled in. As for the pros over a Foil razor is the Rotary razor tends to be quieter and also easier to clean. And although they don't offer as close of a shave they will handle longer growth.

Going Bald for a Good Cause

There are great causes for shaving your head...

I always knew about the locks of love and various ways of donating your hair for cancer patients but I just did not realize how many fundraisers there were for shaving your head. I have friends that have shaved their heads in support of a loved one who was going through chemo but there are so many ways to be a part of giving back that I came across after researching and writing this article.

It really made me think, " Would I shave my head for charity?" So I decided to see what y'all thought about the idea. So be sure and take the poll and please be sure to comment if you have something to share.

You can also find a list of some of the charities that I came across and there are so many more. They are not all just for cancer patients and some are national fundraisers while you can find others that are local to your community.

Head Shaving Fundraisers and Events - Find events in your local community!

The St. Baldrick's is one of the largest programs for "Head-shaving" fundraisers and hold events all over the country. I included some other stories that just really show how people will get involved and it really just warms your heart when you read about them.

How To Shave Your Head In Space - Now you probably don't think about doing that every day...

Recently Astronaut Chris Cassidy made the decision that in order to properly welcome fellow astronaut Luca Parmitano from Italy who would be joining him on the International Space Station, he would shave his head. Now at first you think, okay... why should that be in a video? Well of course remembering he is in space, without gravity, it soon becomes clear that a video would be the only way to explain why you need to use a vacuum cleaner to shave your head! Watching the video makes it all make sense, and if you look on down the page at a picture of the two Astronauts together it really comes together.

Wanted to share this wonderful video, my husband said he will no longer complain about having to shave his head every day as long as he can do it here on earth!

Rituals of Shaving

There is a method to their madness...

Over the years I have gone from watching my Dad shave with a safety razor to some of the earlier electric shavers to my husband shaving with a two-blade cartridge razor up to a 5-blade and then on to trying both the head-blade and an electric shaver.

So although I don't actually shave "my" head, I have been there when there were those days of nothing but little bits of red tinged tissue stuck all over their heads. Then when technology finally caught up, it got to be much less of a massacre and became more about how slick they could actually get their head. So my husband really uses three different types of razors depending on what he is doing, how much time he has, how close he wants the shave and so on. So do you have a ritual that you swear by?
