Outerwear / jackets – style guide for women

Updated on February 19, 2012

Winters are very cold in most places; outerwear and jackets are essential in your closet because it gives you a fashionable look in addition to keeping your body warm. This hub talks about a variety of different outerwear / jackets that you must have in your closet. Read this hub if you are into fashion or just like to shop.

Trench coat – A trench coat is very classic and will never go out of style. You should have a tan color trench coat in the closet for colder days. I have talked about this piece in my other hubs a lot. Again, this is a must have in every woman's wardrobe. You will never regret this purchase and will wear it for years. In addition to being a classic piece, the trench coat is especially flattering for those that are big and tall. When you are very tall, you can wear flats with the trench coat and still look awesome.

Blazer – A blazer is a professional outerwear / jacket that can be wore for many occasions. A black blazer is suitable for those that are slightly overweight; you will look sharp and sophisticated for any event. The length is another factor that you have to keep in mind. Tall women should select blazers that are longer (right below the hips or even longer). Shorter women should go with a cropped blazer for the most flattering look.

Motorcycle leather jacket – Women that are not into feminine styles can give the motorcycle leather jacket a try. This outerwear will help you stay warm in the cold winters by blocking winds. You can also create a cool look with a motorcycle leather jacket, jeans and a pair of aviator sunglasses.

Tweed feminine jacket – You should add variety to your winter clothing by having different outerwear / jackets. The tweed jacket you choose should be a very feminine piece that is at or slightly above the hip bone for the best look. You can layer this piece with a causal jean shirt for a very cute outfit. It can also be wore with a pencil skirt for the office.

Denim / jean jacket – Some like causal looks that a denim jacket offers. Other than being causal and fashionable, denim jackets are also great for spring and fall in addition to winter. Due to a thicker and stiffer material, the denim jacket protects you from harsh winter winds. In the spring or fall, you can wear the denim jacket over a dress for a very cute look. Below are some celebrities that wore their dresses this way.

puffy down filled jacket – The winter season is often very cold that many women have to wear several layers of clothing. Even with that, many still complain that they are cold. It is important for those that live in colder areas to have a puffy down filled jacket. These jackets are the ultimate answer for very cold winters. Although it is bulky, it can be very fashionable at the same time. You have to shop around for the fit and look that you like.

pea coat – Another good outerwear / jacket that you should get is the pea coat. This is especially suitable for cold winters. You won't be cold in harsh winter winds and will look very stylish at the same time. One flattering look is a longer pea coat with a pair of knee high boots. Pea coats come in a variety of lengths; go for the shorter ones if you want a sharp look and longer ones (they are also great for big and tall women) if you want a more feminine look.
