Finding women's larger sized sneakers, walking shoes and running shoes

Looking for attractive large size women's tennis shoes or athletic shoes? I know from personal experience that it's hard to find larger sized running or walking shoes. I've even gone to "shoe warehouses" that are huge stores, and still not been able to find anything in my size. On occasions when I have been successful in finding something my size, I've often had to settle for a shoe I didn't like, just because it fit me.

I think one of the issues in being able to find larger sized women's sports shoes is -- what do you call them? Some sites call them "running shoes," some call them "sneakers." You'll also find "sports shoes," "athletic shoes," "casual shoes," oh and don't forget "walking shoes!" Sure there are differences in these types of shoes, but sometimes you just want to browse, and if you don't use the correct words when you search, you may not find what you are looking for. It can be frustrating. I remember one time I found a walking shoe style I really liked but had difficulty finding it in my big size. I remember spending quite a bit of time even looking it up by Nike's item number! So looking for the shoe you want and not being able to find it can really drive you nuts. I know the feeling. That's why I set up this page.

Barefoot Tess for large sized women's sneakers

At Barefoot Tess, you can find a selection of casual sneakers. As of this writing, they didn't have any running shoes -- but they do have Ed hardy sneakers and a variety of colors in sneaker-style flats. To locate them, simply go through the link below or go here, then click on 'Filter By,' then choose 'Style,' then 'Sneakers.' Continue selecting the size and width and other options for the shoes you are looking for. Barefoot Tess carries shoes up to size 15.

Zappo's women's sports shoes up to size 20

One of my favorite places to shop online for shoes (because I wear size 12) is Zappos, because I can easily sort shoes by type and size to narrow down what is available in my size. They also ship free, and whenever I've had to return shoes, the shipping's been free for the returns also. I've found they carry women's shoes up to size 20!

Pros and Cons of Big Feet

It's funny because it's true!

Pros:

Shoe addiction is not a problem.

Easily able to stay within shoe budget, since there IS no shoe budget.

Measuring distances by the foot is easy, since my foot is A FOOT....12 inches.

Women with big feet are generally tall.

Not choosy about my shoes, as long as they fit and don't look like clown shoes.

Cons:

Hate my feet & sometimes feel like a freak when I cannot find my shoe size in a freaking shoe WAREHOUSE.

Can't relate to women who are able to coordinate their shoes with every outfit.

Unable to join in brainless chatter with other women about how cute shoes are.

Women with big feet are generally tall.

Can't be choosy about what shoes I get, have to take whatever I can find sometimes.

@anonymous: Ugh that's horrible! I'm 6'4" and a size 15, which is bad enough but at least there's BarefootTess. I haven't been size 12 since fifth grade, so I definitely know that feeling. And I hear ya on the drag queen shoes. :(

I wish I only had a size 12 had that back in elementary school. Anyone want to try to find shoes that are a size 17 men's I.e. ladies 18? Tried to find some pumps, yup found them for drag queens with a 4 or 5 inch heel. I stood on these stilts , I'm already 6'4" and was afraid to move. I fall very readily, have already had a broken neck, - doesn't anybody make business looking shoes in a sensible heel - I look really silly going to business functions in my dress suit and tennis shoes. Any and all help and advice would be welcomed. I've been getting more and more frustrated. Thanks so much.

So annoyed that can't find any cute athletic shoes in my size! If find them they are plain and boring like and usually a solid white or solid black or if have color it is barely any, like having big feet makes you automatically dull and boring. I am a size 11w in womens and 9.5w in mens and have no real luck in either category. Have worn the same Nike Dart shoes in black and white for past 3 years have bought at least 4 pairs so now ready for some color!
