10 Unusual Ways People Use Their Smartphone

Updated on June 11, 2023

1) Notifying the house from door step

Some people use their phones to notify the house right from the door step. They do not want to bother ringing the doorbell. Ease of finding name in the contact list and dialing is so convenient. Ringing the bell habit must have evolved overtime to this strange use of smartphone habit. Although it is a kind of unconventional use of the phone, I am happy that this is leading to people honk less.

Sometimes we do that since it is raining outside, and we would like to call comfortably in the car so that person knows we arrived their home waiting outside

2) Using Smartphone Camera as Mirror

Do you need to carry mirror in addition to carry your smartphone? You do not need anymore, if your smartphone has high resolution camera. You can use it as mirror. People use their phone camera like a mirror for many reasons.

Some of them are:

They use the camera to make up, especially when they are in a hurry or in a dark place. They can zoom in on their face and see every detail of their eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and blush. They can also use filters to make themselves look more beautiful or funny.

They use the camera with flashlight on to see which tooth has decay. This is very useful when they have a toothache or a cavity and they want to check the condition of their teeth. They can also take a selfie and send it to their dentist for diagnosis.

They use the camera to check their hair, clothes and accessories. They can see if their hair is messy, if their clothes are wrinkled or stained, or if their accessories match their outfit. They can also use the camera to try on different hats, glasses, earrings and necklaces and see how they look.

A guy I know uses his phone camera to check if his hair is still in place after a windy bike ride. He says he doesn't want to look like a mess when he arrives at his destination. He also uses it to make sure he doesn't have any bugs in his teeth from riding with his mouth open.

A girl I met at a party uses her phone camera to see if her lipstick is smudged or if she has any food stuck in her braces. She says she likes to keep her smile bright and shiny for the camera. She also uses it to take selfies with her friends and post them on social media.

A teacher I had in college uses his phone camera to check if his tie is straight and his shirt is tucked in. He says he wants to look professional and respectable in front of his students. He also uses it to scan QR codes and access online materials for his lectures.

Plumber: Sometimes, a plumber needs to see what's going on in a dark and narrow pipe. Instead of using a flashlight or a mirror, they can simply use their phone camera to peek inside. They can also take pictures or videos of the problem and show them to the customer or their boss. This way, they can save time and money while providing quality service.

Makeup artist: A makeup artist needs to have a good mirror to apply makeup on their clients or themselves. But what if they don't have one handy? They can use their phone camera as a mirror and zoom in or out to see the details. They can also use filters or effects to enhance their look or try different styles. They can also share their work with their followers on social media and get feedback or tips.

Detective: A detective needs to gather evidence and clues to solve a case. They can use their phone camera to take pictures of suspects, crime scenes, documents, fingerprints, etc. They can also use it to scan QR codes, barcodes, or other hidden messages. They can also use it to record audio or video of interviews or interrogations. They can also use it to disguise themselves or communicate with their partners.

A friend of mine uses her phone camera to check if her eyeliner is even and her mascara is not clumpy. She says she likes to enhance her natural beauty with some makeup. She also uses it to video call her boyfriend who lives in another city.

A coworker of mine uses his phone camera to check if his beard is trimmed and his nose hair is not visible. He says he likes to groom himself and maintain a clean appearance. He also uses it to record voice memos and reminders for his tasks.

They use the camera to spy on other people. They can pretend to take a selfie or a video call and secretly observe what other people are doing behind them. They can also use the camera to zoom in on someone's face and see their expression or reaction.
