25 Must-Have iPhone Apps

Updated on July 24, 2012

I love my iPhone. Without it, my life isn't complete. The heart of my iPhone is apps. Without apps, an iPhone is simply not an iPhone. So I decided to compile a list of my favorite apps, ranging from a variety of categories. Hope you enjoy it!

25. Find My iPhone

This one should be pre-installed on the iPhone itself. As long as you have an iCloud account, you can track your device's location with this app. If you ever lose your phone, just log onto www.icloud.com and you will be able to track your phone on a map, lock it, send it a message, or wipe it. Very helpful.

24. SoundHound

Ever hear a song so ridiculously catchy, that it bothers you for the next three years? And no matter what, you can't find it? Well with SoundHound, when you hear that song, you can hold it up and the app will automatically find the song. It will also display live lyrics. And if you have an unidentified tune stuck in your head, you can hum to find it as well.

23. Wolfram Alpha

You know those times when you wish there was a person who knew almost everything? Yeah me neither. But if you ever do, this app is amazing. It has all sorts of data. The list is endless, you can ask it almost anything and it will come back with an answer. In fact, it's the same database that is used by Siri on the iPhone 4S and The new iPad.

22. TuneIn Radio

We're not in our cars 24/7. And if you're like me, the only place to listen to a radio is my car. Well with this app, you can listen to the radio as long as you have connection to the Internet. I find myself listening to the radio much more frequently, now that I have this app.

21. Cut The Rope

Sitting in the doctor's waiting room. *Yawn*. Cut The Rope is a great time killer. A physics puzzle game like this can get really addicting. The basic idea of this game is to get the candy to the cute, little, creature. As a challenge, you can collect all 3 stars in a level.

20. Pimp My Screen

If you want to make your iPhone look a little more customized, Pimp My Screen is a good choice. You can choose from a variety of high quality wallpapers for your home and lock screen. As an addition, there are different skins you can apply to add to the functionality of the wallpapers.

19. Draw Something

You've probably already heard of this. It's an app where you draw something, and you're friend on the other end has to guess what it is. If they get it right, it's their turn to draw something for you to guess. It can get really addicting, this is definitely a must have game.

18. Akinator

If you have an iPhone, you always have that bag of tricks you show off to people. Well, you can add to that with this app. It'll amaze you, and it'll amaze anyone you show it to. The genie in the app will ask you to think of any real life or virtual character, and then will proceed to ask you 20 questions, and if you answer most of them accurately, the genie will guess your character. It got it right every time I asked it!

17. Tiny Wings

Sometimes, you just want to play a game to relax. This game feels as if it's made just for that. The objective of this game is to have your bird travel through a series of slopes, trying to get as far as you can. Warning: it can get extremely addicting.

16. Big Words

I don't know if I'm the only one, but sometimes, I'm in those weird situations where I need to get a message across the room quietly. Instead of making crazy hand signals, this app allows you to simply type your message; it'll display it as large as it can.

15. LogMeIn

Let's say you need to access something on your home computer. But you're at work. Well with LogMeIn, you can access your home desktop, or any other computer you choose, from your iPhone. Just install the plugin on your computer, and you'll be set!

14. Pages

You know an app is good when it comes from Apple themselves. Pages is an app that allows you to compose documents right on your phone! I've composed some great, A+ papers on that app! And if you have a Mac, or an iPad, all your documents are synced with iCloud. So you'll always have those documents you made on your Mac, right on your iPhone. And you can download your documents from www.icloud.com.

13. Keynote

A relative of Pages, only it's made to construct attractive presentations. It's very intuitive and easy to use. And just like Pages, if you own a Mac, you can sync your documents using iCloud, and download you presentations from www.icloud.com.

12. Best Flash Light!

There's a whole boatload of flashlight apps out there. It's really hard to pick the best one. But this one lives up to its name; Best Flash Light! It has many features, it wipes out the competition it has with the other apps. Trust me, you'll love this one!

11. RedLaser

If you're those one of those people who sleep with one eye open to find better deals on products, this app should help a lot. When you find, let's say, a video game you want to buy, you can scan the barcode of the video game with this app and the app will automatically search for better deals at other locations and online. Great for people looking to save money! I've saved over $20 when buying video games!

10. Chomp

The app store is great. I love finding new apps to feed my iPhone. But if you want a refined search method for finding apps, install the Chomp app. This is a great app for discovering new applications for your phone. It has a better, precise search engine which can help you find quality apps.

9. Dictionary

By dictionary.com themselves, this app brings you superb vocabulary right to your device. Find the definition of words in an instant. And best of all? This app has full functionality even without Internet connectivity! So no matter where you are, you'll always be able to discover new words!

8. Doodle Jump

I always need that one game where I can pull it out and start playing, to kill time or to avoid an awkward situation. I find Doodle Jump to fit that need. All you have to do in this game is tilt your device to prevent Doodle the Doodler from falling down. Make him land on platforms and raise him higher and higher! A cute and addicting game.

7. iBooks

If you want to read full books on your iPhone, and want access to a large library, iBooks is the best place to start. With a full featured book store, this Apple hosted app is perfect. Although reading books on a 3.5 inch screen is a little hard on the eyes, it shouldn't be too bad for a quick read. And if you own an iPad, all your purchases are synced, so you can start reading on your iPhone, and then pick up on your iPad.

6. Urbanspoon

I love discovering new food. Italian food, Mexican food, Korean food, Indian food, it's all really appetizing. So many restaurants to choose from! Well, Urbanspoon can make the decision for me! If I want, I can tell it to look for restaurants in a certain location or a certain class. This app is great for finding new places to eat!

5. Infinity Blade II

Probably the most power-hungry game on the app store; but the amazing graphics and intuitive gameplay make up for it. Fighting your way to the end of the game, each time getting harder and harder to defeat the opponent.

4. LogosQuiz

Another very addicting game; the goal here is to identify as many logos as you can. You'll see many logos on a page, and when you identify one, you write the company name. You'll have fun, I guarantee you.

3. Jetpack Joyride

I've always dreamed of flying a jetpack. In this game, you fly Barry, this guy who steals a jetpack, through a course with coins and obstacles. It gets harder and harder, and it's extremely addicting.

2. StumbleUpon

If you're extremely bored, and just want to browse the web, StumbleUpon is a great way to do that. Just enter your interests, and then swipe to browse through pages found for your interests. It's a great way to murder time.

1. Dropbox

Connecting to iTunes to download some files can sometimes be such a hassle. In fact, it always is. Well, if you have an existing Dropbox account, just drag your files on you computer into the dropbox folder, and they'll appear on your iPhone in the Dropbox app! Just remember, you do have to pay for extra storage.

Well, there you have it! These are, in my opinion, the apps that every iPhone user should have. Tell me how you like them in the comments below!

This looks so cool. I wish I had an I phone. Do you happen to know of a good Bell Phone Company in the North York Sheridan Mall?

You should look at shopkick, its a app that gives you points for walking into stores such as target, best buy, and some clothing vendors. You get points and they add up you get gift cards. I love gropon too, cuz i love to get a good deal. I am not sure what stores you have in Canada though.

To be honest... Any phone that's not an iPhone is worth chucking on the freeway. But that's my opinion :)
