3 Reasons To Buy a Waterproof Camera

Updated on August 22, 2013

For Versatility and Durability, Underwater Digital Cameras Are the Way to Go

If you think underwater cameras are just for snorkelers and scuba divers, think again. Today's new waterproof cameras are designed to be used both in water and on land, and to withstand bumps, falls, and temperatures that could put an end to a regular compact camera. That's why many people are choosing underwater cameras for everyday use. They can go anywhere and do (just about) anything. Here are three reasons you might want to buy an underwater camera.

Underwater Digital Cameras Are All-Purpose Cameras

Waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and freezeproof... and they take great photos, too!

if you're looking for a camera to take everywhere, do anything, and shoot video, too, a waterproof camera may be the answer. Here's why.

- Rugged and Versatile

Many underwater cameras are built not to be used in water, but on land, too, and to tolerate the elements wherever you may go. A good underwater camera is not only waterproof, but freezeproof and dustproof, too, Plus, they're usually shockproof to varying degrees, so if you knock if off your desk or drop it while getting into the car, your camera will keep on working. Most models are also compact and lightweight, making them easy to take with you.

- Able to Shoot Video, Too

Besides being able to take photos in the rain, snow, sleet or hail, the best underwater cameras can shoot video, too. Less expensive models may only offer VGA quality video, while higher quality waterproof cameras, such as the Panasonic DMC-TS3 or the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-(shown in pink here) offer full HD video capabilities.

- Budget-Friendly

A good quality waterproof, shockproof digital camera doesn't need to cost any more than you'd pay for any other compact camera. Plus, if you already own an underwater camera, you won't need to get another camera if you take a cruise in the Caribbean and want to take photos while snorkeling, nor will you need to buy a replacement if you accidentally drop your camera on a cement walkway or in the pool.

Below are some of the best underwater cameras available, but for more information, be sure to check out some waterproof camera reviews to help you choose the camera that's right for you.

I am thinking about buying my children an underwater camera each, they are still learning to swim and i think this will encourage them to be less scared under the water by making it more fun.
