5 Smartphones With HD Displays

Updated on May 16, 2013

One of the most important features of a smartphone is its display. No matter how visually stunning the design or how fast the processor of a phone is, if it does not have an excellent display, then users will have a frustrating experience using it. That is why mobile gadget manufacturers nowadays are doing their best to improve the quality as well as the performance of this essential phone feature.

High-Definition or HD displays are what’s commonly used in many smartphones these days. However, HD resolution doesn’t necessarily equal good performance. There are other factors that affect the quality and the performance of a phone screen such as touch sensitivity, clarity during broad daylight, and panel type. With this in mind, here are five smartphones with excellent HD displays.

1. Sony Xperia Z

Considered as the “best” Sony smartphone, the Xperia Z sports a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. What’s amazing about its pixel density—441 ppi to be exact—is its capacity to make the pixels virtually invisible. HD films shown on the Xperia Z are played on its big screen in a “pixel-for-pixel” manner. As result, users get a more comfortable and pleasurable viewing experience. Aside from that, it also has the capacity to adjust its screen brightness automatically, making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.

2. Samsung Galaxy S4

The tech community has been eagerly anticipating the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4. And now that is already available in the market, it sure is worth the long wait. Just like the Xperia Z, Galaxy S4 also has a 1080 x 1920 resolution with a pixel density of 441 ppi. It also boasts of a Super AMOLED HD display made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The stunning clarity of Galaxy S4’s display is something that Samsung fans will definitely love.

3. LG Optimus G

LG Optimus G has one of the best HD displays among the vast array of smartphones these days. Thanks to the True HD IPS Plus display, which the in-house developers of LG created, the Optimus G provides better brightness, sensitivity, and color, something that smartphone fanatics would definitely love. Aside from that, its unique glass design, which lessens the quantity of layers between the screen and the Gorilla Glass 2 (the protective glass), the Optimus G produces lesser reflections compared to its counterparts.

4. HTC One

HTC One’s HD display offers incredible sharpness and vibrancy. With 468 ppi, this smartphone has one of the best pixel densities among the many mobile phones available in the market today. Its full 1080p Super LCD 3 screen provides its users with an excellent color reproduction as well as terrific viewing angles. Aside from that, the HTC One’s display also offers great color contrast.

5. iPhone 5

Of course, this list will not be complete without Apple’s latest smartphone offering, the iPhone 5. Technically, iPhone 5’s display is not HD. However, it remains a hit among tech junkies due to its Retina Display feature, which makes images appear more lifelike and crisper. Even though Apple released the Retina Display two generations before, it remains to be a feature that many smartphone users get enthralled about. Aside from that, iPhone 5’s superb display produces accurate colors, provides excellent viewing angles, and performs well in sunlight.

Aside from the five mobile phones listed above, there are other smartphones out in the market today with excellent, high-performing screen displays. Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Butterfly X920d are just two smartphone models that offer superb computing experience and excellent HD displays.
