How to Adjust the Privacy Setting on Your Facebook Photo Albums

Even before Facebook Timeline gave us the option to download photos, it has been fairly simple to swipe photos from other people’s albums. If you’re sharing pictures of your kids or private family images, this is a problem. Or, if like me, you have family members on Facebook who associate with creeps and criminals, you want to make sure the photos you’re sharing with loved ones stay out of the hands of their "friends."

Fortunately, Facebook offers us a simple way to make sure that even if Friends share our photos and albums, they won’t be seen by anyone we don’t want seeing them. Here’s a quick tutorial of how to adjust the privacy settings on your Facebook photo albums to prevent your photos from being shared with others.

Albums You Created

To adjust the privacy settings for the album:

  1. Go to your Photos section;
  2. Click on the album you wish to adjust;
  3. Click on the drop down menu in the top right-hand corner represented by a globe icon;
  4. Click on the setting you want.

Individual Photos

If you want to make just certain pictures in an album private:

  1. Go to your Photos section;
  2. Click on the album containing the photo you wish to adjust;
  3. Click on the photo you wish to make private;
  4. Click on the “Edit” button or link;
  5. Select the privacy setting you want for that photo.

Wall Photos and Profile Pictures

The privacy settings on these albums cannot be changed, however you can adjust the settings for each individual photo you wish to keep private by using the same method outline in the “Individual Photos section” above.

Cover Photos

These cannot be made private. They are part of your profile structure and will be shown to everyone allowed to view your profile.

      Yes! It's been a big concern for a lot of folks, especially since FB is now "public". So glad it's of use to you, Millionaire, and thank you for the vote! :-)

      This is good to know that you can adjust the privacy settings on your photos to make sure not everyone can see everything. I don't post a lot of photos on Facebook for that very reason. I want to decide who gets to see what. Voted up.
