Apple Stole the USP of Samsung Phones: Big Screens

Updated on September 21, 2014

Samsung has been credit as the most successful producer of the big screen phones or phablets since 2011. But Now after 3 years of monopoly Samsung has got a real competitor in its territory. Iphone6 offers a 4.7-inch display and the iPhone 6 Plus offers a 5.5-inch display. Although, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 offers 5.7-inch display which is slightly bigger than the iPhone6 plus but the competition has begun.

Do we choose Android phones for their big theatrical screen size?

Its but obvious that there are certain factors which affect the mind set of buyers. After a small survey we came out with certain out of the box or un-conventional reasons which affect our choices while purchasing.

As a developer, I was with the impression that there are certain budget and cumulative features affects the purchasing. But after an interrogation with people around me, I received an overwhelming response.

Enumerating a few will be Screen size, Services, Apps, Camera, Advertisement, Fan following, body design and many more. Thus, in short you need to read the figures in order to get to know about the real best seller.

#The Next Big Thing:

Now the reigning king of the phablets world has got a worthy competitor. Back in 2011 people criticised Samsung Galaxy Note and now its rivals are walking on the same path.
Wherefore, Samsung mocks at iPhone in its new commercial. Believe it or not but Apple can realise the fact that big screen size phones are in demand.

So, what is The Next Big Thing for you.

Asking this question without giving you fair amount of information would be unfair. So, let us see what all features they have to offer in order to become The Next Big Thing.

The War is between the similar

So now that both the brands have almost the same screen size, thus this makes the competition fair. Let us see what all features they have to offer to the customers.

Larger Display in a Shorter Device

Size is a crucial factor to make a choice between the devices.

This choice is affected by the convenience to carry and display preferences. People go for big devices to watch videos and play games. Comparing the two latest devices we found out that there is only a marginal difference of 0.2 inches between the size of the two as discussed above.

Moreover, when comparing in terms of resolution Note4 has an edge as it has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (515 ppi pixel density). Wherein, you a get a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (401 ppi pixel density) in iPhone 6 plus.

Despite of giving a larger display, Note4 is shorter than the iPhone 6 plus. So, this adds point in Note4's kitty as you get larger display in shorter device when compare in terms of height.

What's Extra

Adding on to the display feature we have iPhones shatter proof glass technology, specially designed for accidents and drops. Wherein, Note4 offers a amoled display and uses Gorilla Glass 3 technology.

So, in terms of display we can say that Note scores slightly high as you get better display and rich colours in super amoled display. Wherein you can not compare the sharpness as it cannot be distinguished with the human eye.

Life Line

Battery life is one direct feature which affects purchasing. Note 4 offers you a Li-lon 3220 mAh battery which is removable. So in case of outage you can replace it with another one, Howerver, this features is missing in iPhone 6 plus.

Fast Charging: Go from 0 to 50 % in just 30 mins.

Another added advantage of Note 4 is its fast charging. You can go from 0% to 50 % in half and hour.

Who would prefer to carry a piece of iron?

As many people travel a lot, so they require light weight devices or in general who would like to carry a heavy piece of iron in their pocket. Therefore, in this condition iPhone 6 plus wins as it 172 grams, whereas Galaxy Note 4 is of 176 grams. iPhone 6 plus is sleeker as it measures 158.1* 77.8 * 7.1 mm, wherein Note 4 measures 153.5 * 78.6 * 8.5 mm.

Looks Matter

I was wondering how can looks of any smartphone affect its sale. There was an old quote that there is no Accounting for one's liking. But I would like to say -

There is no accounting for one's buying.

But yes looks do matter. People do prefer a phone that looks good in there hand. Talking about looks we have a new textured soft touch back with a metal frame in Note 4. However, iPhone 6 Plus is crafted using Aluminium. Note 4 comes in four colours namely Black, white, Pink and Gold. Wherein, you get three colours Silver, Gold and Space Grey in iPhone 6 Plus.

All the game and app freaks do make a choice very carefully when it comes to Hardware specifications. As it matters a lot when it comes to use games and apps. Moreover, their are other users such as business men and mobile app development companies.

They both are the latest versions when compared with their own domain. So both of them score the same in this case. However, when compared with each other Note 4 seems to lead.

Note 4 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 805/Exynos Octa core processor with 3GB RAM. Moreover, iPhone 6 Plus is powered by dual core Apple A8 processor with 2 GB RAM.

Where will I store my stuff

I believe people purchase phablet, so that they can watch movies and videos on their mobile phones. Therefore, every one want to purchase phone which offers a good storage capacity. So, if you need ample lot of storage space in your smartphone then you must go for Samsung as it offers 32 GB internal storage and it can be expanded up to 128 GB using microSD card. Wherein, iPhone 6 Plus has 16/64/128 GB internal memory specifications. Moreover, it do not allows you to expand the size and cost of the phone increases with the increase in its specifications.

iPhone6 Look

I am the Camera Man

Speaking of the video recording feature, both the devices use optical image stabilization not the digital one. Now the difference lies in the frames captured per second. Note 4 offers you to capture 4 k UHD at two rates

  1. 2160p at 30 frames per second
  2. 720p at 120 frames per second

Wherein, iPhone 6 Plus offers you

  1. 1080 p at 60 frames per second
  2. 720p at 240 frames per second.

At this rate you can capture slow motion videos using iPhone 6 plus which is a very impressive feature. And I am also looking forward to it.

Picture Perfect

To my knowledge there are people who are so much obsessed with pictures that they choose a smartphone if it is powered with a good camera. In order to cater them we have Note 4, which is equipped with 16 MP camera and an aperture of f1.9. Not to forget their are ample of image enhancement features.

Whereas, iPhone offers 8MP iSight camera with f2.2 aperture. Although the specifications are low but iPhone6 offers Focus Pixels, which is an automatic system for optimizing the auto focus

Moreover, Note 4 offers 3.3 MP front facing camera and wide selfie mode. Whereas, iPhone 6 plus offers 1.2 MP front facing camera and it is 81% brighter than the previous model.

What's new?

Now we know that users do get attracted to something new. Provided that that the new innovation is extremely useful. So, lets us see which one gets an edge in this section.
Iphone 6 plus is a great update in itself considering the size of the Apples flagship phones. But Note 4 certainly has more new features.

Note 4 comes with a stylus S-pen which has its special functions. This is a pressure sensitive pen. Moreover, there is an infrared port which acts as remote control system and USB host. One can easily connect to the USB support and flash drives using adapters which are quite reasonable and readily available in the market.

If we talk about iPhone 6 Plus, we do not have similar features, but we have a really smart feature named as Apple Pay. However, Google tried it way back with Google Wallet but was not successful. But Apple has now landed with full preparation.

Touch Sensors

Both the phones offer biometric touch sensors but iPhone 6plus has a more convenient platform. As in this you need to touch your figure and you can do it any direction. Wherein, in Note 4 you need to swipe it, thus you need to be very precise. So here iPhone score more points.

Additionally, Apple offers sensors in its Motion M8 Coprocessor. This feature can calculate the distance travelled by you and can even count the number of stairs you have climbed.

Moola Matters

However, the cost of Note 4 is still not revealed but it is going to cost roughly $750 and it will hit the stores in October. Moreover, cost of iPhone 6 plus differs with the specifications. The cost are as follows:

16 GB- $749

64 GB- $849

128 GB- $949

Being an analyst and also being a user I have tried to figure out all the aspects which work behind the psychology of purchasing. And after this I have realised that they are still governed by some ineffable features.

I hope that the above mentioned features will help you to make a good choice.

Moreover, this analysis can be used by various Mobile App development companies to speculate the popularity so as to choose a platform for mobile app development. Enuke do keep a track and analyse every new technology entering in the market, which can have impact on the development. And we will be glad to share this with you.
