This is an 18th century satirical article that is worth exploring. In this article, the author satirizes the societal life of the day through portraying peculiar elements surrounding it. For example, one of the characters identified as Joseph is known for his “camouflage ability” that is, ability to transform himself from being bad to good. In other words, he can perfectly disguise himself as a good man by behaving or speaking well while in the real sense he is a bad character. This portrays the nature of the society not only at that time, but also at present where majority of men and women are pretenders. Furthermore, the author claims that the society at which the scene takes place has being “fashionable”. Interestingly, it also appears to be a place known for a lot of gossiping and love seeking. The aim here is to present a picture of the particular society at that time.
