Great Early 20th Century Inventions

The early 1900s brought many new inventions that rocked the world but, the ten listed below stand out more than the rest. We have come along way over the past hundred years that is for sure. Some of these inventions have really changed our lives and the way that we live our lives from day to day.

1. Telephone: A great invention to keep you in touch with your friends and family. Phones have developed over the years from the rotary phone to the flip and slide phone, touchscreen is available also and with the I-phone. We are able to send and check email right from the phone and take pictures and email them also. Phones are so advanced now, it is like having a small computer in your hands at all time. The I-phone has pushed us into another age of technology. These phone have changed our lives.

2. Refrigerator: Can you imagine not having refrigeration? I guess you learn to do what you have to do. If the only thing that you had to keep your food cool was the mouth of a spring or to store your food inside a cave, I think I would do it. There were also areas that were dug in the ground, that were used to keep food cool. The supplies that they needed were stored there in the coolness. I am thankful for this invention, because without it, refrigeration would be tough today.

3. Tractor (1904): A piece of farm equipment that is used to plow a garden, bush hog the property. Move hay from one area to another. A tractor is also handy to have in the fact that you can remove trees from the property if they are too heavy they can be pulled off by the tractor. Tractors are handy to have if you own a lot of land.

4. Color Photography: There are so many different elements to color photography. I didn't realize all the different lighting techniques, different lenses, shutter speed and many more interesting aspects. The props that are used can be a variety of different things. You can have different themes as well. This invention changed the way photography is done and many improvements have been made over the decades.

5. Escalator (1900): Escalators can be found in airports and in the malls. A movable set of steps. The escalator at the mall is generally a two story set up. One set goes upstairs and the other set will take shoppers downstairs. Escalators can also be used in airports. They can be used to get from one end of the airport to the other. These are especially helpful for the elderly people or someone who is having trouble walking or someone with breathing problems.

6. Neon Light (1903): When you want to get someone's attention to let them know that your open for business, a great way is with a neon light. Whether at a gas station with an open sign, a sign for an ATM these flashy signs are proven to bring in customers and increase business. Also, Teenagers and young adults use neon lights at their pad sometimes.

7. Teddy Bear (1902): Teddy bears can be of great comfort to a sick child, or a comfort to an adult. Some people collect bears. Bears are all different colors and styles now but, when they first came out the most common color of the teddy bear is a light brown color. It makes you feel good to snuggle up to something soft. They now have a store called Build a Bear where you can dress. Bear up and put your own voice on a recording inside the bears paw or stomach.

8. Crayons (1903): Used by children and adults everywhere. The Crayola brand kind of has a monopoly on the crayon world. This particular brand of crayons is not waxy and the colors spread easily, making is easy for the kindergarten children to learn to color. All colors are available to color with and for over a hundred years people have been coloring.

9. Corn Flakes (1906): A corn cereal that is covered with sugar or you can buy the plain corn flakes. This is a great cereal for the morning time and it is great to add different fresh fruit to this cereal. It had to have been very tasty for people having it for the first time. I prefer either a banana or some strawberries cut up in this cereal. This is a great cereal.

10. Tea Bags (1904): I am a true southern girl and I love my sweet tea!! Some brands of tea taste a lot different and I am not a huge fan of flavored teas but, that means that there are so many different types of tea, that there should be something for everyone. Make it cold with sugar and lots of ice. This is how we like it in the south. A favorite of a lot of people like hot tea. I like peach tea in particular.
