Updated on January 9, 2014

Mobile phones are not only communication tools, but also act as ereaders, cameras, music players and even backup devices. To expand storage space, phone users always insert a storage device (SD, CF, etc.) in mobile phones. Memory cards offers a number of merits, like small size, light weight, large capacity and reasonable price. But there’s one thing you may neglect before things happen—data loss in memory card. Files may disappear because of accidental deletion, unconscious erasing, improper actions, or something unknown. There’s no recycle bin in mobile phones for you to collect and restore deleted files, and then all you need is a memory card recovery tool.

Memory Card Recovery Free Software Recommended

The earlier you use memory card recovery software, the more chance to get back lost files. Not all software can work well. You’d better choose one with good user review. Here, I will recommend a free data recovery utility named Softtote Free Data Recovery for Mac software which came to my rescue when I was upset for accidental deleting precious photos in my Samsung phone.

This read-only non-destructive digital data restoration utility cannot change data in your drive. It will not damage your files in memory card. It support bmp, jpg, png, tif and mp3 file recovery from mobile phones, digital cameras, hard drive, storage devices and so on. This powerful tool applies to numerous data loss situations. And the most eye-catching feature of this tool is no size limitation in file recovery. This powerful yet easy-to-use data recovery program can make novice restore files with ease.

Firstly, it only support file recovery on Mac. Secondly, you have to upgrade to full version if you need to restore other file types.

Anyhow, it can address our basic needs. Although it cannot recover all lost/deleted memory card data, it scans whole drive and helps to check if target files are still there for recovery.

How to Recover Lost Files from Mobile Phone?

You can undelete lost files from mobile phones in a few clicks:

  1. Download, install and launch recovery software.
  2. Connect memory card (card reader needed) / mobile phone (USB-cable required) to Mac computer.
  3. Select drive/partition to scan.
  4. Preview by file type, file name, file size, thumbnails.
  5. Recover and save.

Notes: Recovered files are not allowed to save in your previous memory card or mobile phone to avoid overwriting.

To increase successful rate of recovery, you should stop any actions immediately since data lost, like reformat memory card, save new files and so on. Otherwise, files may be overwritten and hard to recover completely.
