Save your mobile phone data

These days our mobile phones are a lot more than just phones - they act as our cameras, music players, ereaders and sometimes even backup devices for important files. It sure is convenient that our phones can do all that and you can use both your microSD card and your phone's memory to store data, but there is something that you need to remember - you can lose data stored on your phone. It can happen because you delete something by accident or because your microSD card becomes corrupted. No matter what's the cause, it's really unpleasant to lose your files.

How to Undelete Files from Your Phone's Memory

Undeleting lost files from your phone's internal memory may sound complicated, but it's not. Basically, there is one thing you need to remember: if your computer assigns a drive letter to your phone when you connect it via USB, recovering deleted data will be a piece of cake. As soon as you see the new drive letter, you can use any file recovery software to undelete your files. So, here are some software programs that will help you recover lost data from your phone's internal memory and microSD card.

Recuva is a brilliant free file recovery program from Piriform (the guys who developed CCleaner). It saved my files on numerous occasions. I've used it on pretty much everything - my PC's hard drive, a USB thumb drive, an SD card from my digital camera when the stupid thing decided to remove some images because it wanted to use their file names, and even my mobile phone. It's free and really easy to use. It's also powerful enough to find and recover all of your deleted files. There are two recovery methods - quick scanning and deep scanning. The downside of Recuva is that it only works on Windows.

DiskDrill will help you restore lost files if you are a Mac user. Just like Recuva it supports all sorts of removable media and can recover files from your hard drive, iPhone, iPod, and memory cards. It supports both quick and deep scanning. The cool thing about DiskDrill is that is can even recover lost partitions from your Mac's drive. And photos or music files from your phone will be really easy to recover.

How to Ensure Successful File Recovery

The trick to successful file recovery is time. Run your recovery software as soon as possible and try to avoid saving new files to your phone until you attempt the restore your lost data. If it gets overwritten by new files, it will be lost for ever.

Thank you for this hub, just provided me with what I was looking for. I'll have to buy myself some offline storage to back-up my files in future.
