Buying A Cheap Android Tablet

Updated on April 28, 2012

Now is the time to get your hands on cheap android tablets. Even some Kmart stores are now stocking a cheap Augen  tablet for $150. This article will briefly go over what you should be looking for in a cheap android tablet.

Tablets that run Google´s Android operating system bring the benefits of having the wealth of Google´s experience and expertise applied to a mobile operating browser. You will also get thousands of applications from Opensource and official Android Market developers.

If you’re looking for a very cheap android tablet (like one from this page) then you will have to make some compromises. You will have to do without the more advanced features.

The all singing all dancing tablets will have very large screen size-10.2 inches. 3G telecommunications, GPS, High-Definition Multimedia Interface etc etc. If your budget is limited you will have to decide what you can leave off.

A compromise on screen size will save you quite a chunk of money. Go for something with a 7 inch display. Typing and watching videos is satisfactory at that size.

3G would be nice on the go but a fast WIFI access point will let you browse or download just as quickly. Ok so you have to find a Starbucks or somewhere, but hey, the money you save can now go on a cafe late.

Can you live without GPS. If you do not need to pinpoint your every move then sure you can. Your mobile phone probably has GPS anyway.

You can also make do without 2 USB slots, you won’t need a camera and you won’t faint if you cannot get HDMI. Sure a cheap tablet pc would be nice but you can hold off for a bit.

You will want 800 x 480 pixel display, 256MB of RAM, CPU around 600mhz, an SD slot, and most definitely WIFI. A bit of trickery on your part can make up for the missing features. That is half the fun with a cheaper tablet,  you get to be creative.
