Prototype of Dual-Use Gravity Slide Escape System for Multi-Story Buildings

Patent

The multiple floors of a high-rise building create great challenges in design of the emergency evacuation devices and systems.

The common solutions to solve the problem are the speed rope, which application depends on the height of the building and physique of the individuals (building occupants) and the escape slide, which is very effective, but it needs to be folded out first, which adds a lot of uncertainty and it can only be used in fire escape not in daily lives.

Dual-use gravity slide escape system is installed in exit stairs. The system includes two devices - a downward spiral slide track and a slide car. The downward spiral slide track is installed on the walls along with the stair handrail in staircase. The position on the wall is a little higher than an ordinary man. The slide car owned by the individuals (building occupants) is used as a personal escape gear. The slide car consists of pulleys, frames, chairs, deceleration parts, and so on.

It’s easy to use the devices. Just hook the slide car on to the slide track, sit on the car, move your center of gravity, adjust the deceleration part on the slide car to make it fit with the slide track and you will rapidly descend to the ground floor using your own gravity.

The slide car has a simplified version. Make the upper side of the rod (steel or other materials) a hook and the lower side a horizontal bar. This device can be used for transportation in daily lives, energy saving and amusement ride feel, and you experience a fire drill every time before you even know it. Economic and social benefits.

This system provides a reliable solution to high-rise evacuation. Even in the case of smoke, this system installed in the exit stairs will send you to the ground floor in a fast speed. It’s also good for those who are old, weak, ill or disabled. Making the slide track a permanent device inside a building will not affect going upstairs and downstairs by foot. In daily lives, this system can help go downstairs without energy consumption. It saves energy and reduces the energy consumption of the elevator. Cost can be recovered even if no fire happens.

The slide track can be set up during the building of the high-rise or be installed in existing exit stairs. Solid material like steel is a good choice. The slide cars owned by the individuals need to be solid and light weighted. The individual can decide whether to choose a simplified version or not according to personal preference. It’s not difficult to achieve all of these above with noise and safety which need to be taken into account too.
