Face Facebook Timeline
Isn't it Time You got the Timeline?
Face it, Facebook Timeline is here and you should Face Facebook Timeline, sorry for riddle but its the only way to get you Facebook Fanatics attention!
I first heard that this new layout on my profile was coming in December 2011, but my best friend told me that it was going to be phased in, however, so far I have not seen any official deadline for when they will make this new page style mandatory.
Whenever a big change comes along very much like what happened last year with Google +, a lot of people are skeptical but usually end up participating in the end anyway. This latest change to the world's largest social network has actually inspired me to use it more, I like that they have made the profile more open to a person expressing themselves but they have not lost that slickness which makes it so easier to navigate around.
You have probably seen the new Timeline advertised as soon as you reach your Facebook login page, it has a picture of a small child being thrown in the air whilst in a swimming pool.
The 2 biggest differences that you will notice about the Facebook Timeline design is that it has a large 'Cover' photo stretched across the entire header of the page and where the wall used to be it has split into 2 sections that display the various photographs and videos etc that you uploaded over the recent months. It still includes posts that your friends made and it also has a list of the months and years on the right hand side so you can look all the way back to when you joined.
Lets not fool ourselves, all of you who are in a huff about the new changes and screaming things like 'I'm not going to use Facebook anymore!', thats like saying you'll never eat at McDonalds again in your life, we all know its not true.
I personally love the timeline because as the video and designers explained, it allows you to relive your favourite moments, for example, to the right you can see my Facebook cover photo and this was me enjoying myself at the nightclubs in Thailand. Another great thing is that if you do a lot of traveling you can show where you have been on the little map just below the cover photo.
The great thing about the photos in your timeline is they are slightly larger than when you would upload a picture and publish it to your 'wall', this provides better resolution and overall experience for your and your friends to see your activities.
As you can see, I also had great fun with Thai calligraphy on my 'timeline wall', being a graphic designer I know the importance of typography when trying to be visually attractive.
Lastly we can see where the profile photo used to be, this is a lot smaller than the old profile pic but I think that sacrificing this is more than compensated by the really cool cover photo. To conclude I would say that Facebook has stayed on course by staying slick and not too sloppy like Myspace were guilty of with background pics and advertising.
