Facebook Thought Police

James A. Watkins is an entrepreneur, musician, and a writer with three non-fiction books and hundreds of magazine articles read by millions.

A Digital Iron Curtain

A Digital Iron Curtain has descended over the Internet. So says investigative journalist Daniel Greenfield. Totalitarians always promise free elections, free speech, and a free press until they get all the power. Then, all that is eliminated “for your own good.”

The promise of the Internet was the free flow of information. Facebook promised us free speech before we made them among the richest people in the world. Before billions of people got hooked on their product. And before President Trump was elected.

Today Facebook is in the surveillance business, and in the business of social engineering, defined as “an attempt to manage social change and regulate behavior through psychological manipulation.”

They have become the Stasi of the Internet, sending people to prison for saying the ‘wrong’ thing. It has made itself legislator, judge, jury and executioner of Thought Crimes.

Senator Al Franken said: “No company should have the power to pick and choose which content reaches consumers and which doesn’t. Facebook, Google, and Amazon, like Internet Service Providers, should be neutral in their treatment of the flow of lawful information and commerce on their platform.”

Facebook is Awesome

Facebook is awesome in many ways. Countless old friends have found each other. Lonely people can have some social interaction. We can all stay abreast of births, deaths, graduations, weddings, and funerals. We can find customers and show everybody the slideshows of our vacation and photographs of our grandkids. We can find strangers who share our interests, be it hobbies, music, jokes, politics, or religion.

2.5 billion people use Facebook. It has become the new Public Square for the World. It is, in many cases, how we buy and sell; how we learn and teach; how we communicate with our family and friends; and how we find out what is going on in the world. But Facebook has turned against Free Speech and now engages in censorship. It has become Big Brother and the Thought Police. It seems bent on killing our Freedom to Speak the Truth.

The Election of President Trump

After the election of President Trump, Democrats were struck with Trump Derangement Syndrome: Blind hatred of President Trump, and his supporters, by those who preach tolerance. It is, tragically, a psychotic hatred that has driven them insane, the legal definition of which is “being unable to distinguish right from wrong.”

Facebook came under intense pressure, even from Barack Hussein Obama, to join the Democrats in what they deem the ‘Resistance,’ a revolutionary movement to overthrow our government if possible, but if that fails to make it impossible for the duly elected administration to govern, and to ensure Democrats win all future elections.

Mark Zuckerberg agreed that Facebook would help out, first by using algorithms, with the immediate result of a 45% drop of engagement by American citizens on President Trump’s Facebook posts. Next would come deleting accounts of conservatives, the use of Facebook Jail, Shadow Banning, News Feed manipulation, and employing the use of leftist ‘fact checkers.’ More algorithm changes followed, to enforce ‘community standards,’ eliminate ‘hate speech,’ and stop the spread of ‘misinformation,’ which quickly dropped traffic to established conservative websites by 15%.

Zuckerberg testified to Congress that Facebook “would remain content neutral,” but one week later he told far left-wing extremist groups that he would welcome their input to decide who and what to censor. The subsequent removal of links to pages with which Facebook does not agree has resulted in a 93% decrease in traffic to conservative news since President Trump won the election.

In the 2018 election, Facebook sent messages encouraging people to “get out and vote” but the messages were only sent to certain demographics – those most likely to vote for Democrats.

The sharing of information, knowledge, and wisdom within your sphere of influence is a powerful thing. 67% of Americans get their news from social media. Facebook has determined to diminish the influence of conservative thought, speech, and ideas. It has decided to discriminate against people who hold a worldview different from that of the Left. They have decided to use their platform to manipulate public opinion.

14% of Americans say that they have changed their minds about a belief they held because of what they read on Facebook. That is enough of a percentage to flip most elections. And get this: Those who most easily change their minds are in the Democrat demography. Among those under age 30, nearly a third have changed their minds about a social or political issue because of what they learned from Facebook. And among Blacks and Hispanics of all ages about 20%.

Facebook Becomes a Publisher

Mark Zuckerberg stated many times that Facebook was “a platform for all ideas.” But now they are making editorial decisions, and that makes them a publisher. It is an important distinction because Facebook has always claimed to be a neutral platform, and denied being a publisher. That matters because publishers fall under a different set of laws.

A social media platform is supposed to “offer a forum for a true diversity of political discourse,” according to the U.S. Congress. As Congressman Matt Gaetz says, “If Facebook claims to be a neutral platform, it cannot continue to limit conservative content; if Facebook claims to be a publisher, it will lose its legal immunity under section 230 of the Communications Act. They simply cannot have it both ways.”

You can bet that if Facebook were routinely censoring the views of ‘progressive’ leftists there would be riots in the streets.

Facebook Censorship

Princeton Professor Robert George writes: “Ordinary authoritarians are content to forbid people from saying things they know or believe to be true. Totalitarians insist on forcing people to say things they know or believe to be untrue.”

Hate is the favorite word of the Left, defined as “anything said or written against our ideology.” Facebook now punishes people for ‘Hate Speech,’ which it has decided is anything written that MIGHT offend or insult members of ‘protected groups.’ It would take a lot of space to list all the ‘protected groups’ so let’s just say everyone in the world except White Christian Men.

Under Facebook ‘community standards,’ blasphemy and sacrilege are fine. It is fine to say President Trump is a racist (which is worse than being called a child molester these days), his supporters are bigots, his black supporters are Uncle Toms, his Hispanic supporters are race traitors, and anyone who thinks America should have borders “hates brown people.” Even though none of those things are true.

It is fine to mock Jesus, ridicule the Body of Christ, call the Gospel a “fairy tale,” and the Holy Bible “a stupid bronze age book for fools.” These are not violations to Facebook. Even overtly expressed hatred for white people is fine, as in “I hate white people and wish they would all just die.”

Even expressing dreams of the president being assassinated are fine. It is OK to express support for Socialism—an ideology that has already murdered 100,000,000 innocent souls—but its Facebook Jail if you hurt someone’s feelings that is in a protected group.

The reason for this is that only those defined as ‘oppressors’ are slated for punishment. This is a new version of Marxism (godless socialism), recast as the struggle for power not among classes but among identity groups (grievance groups).

Under this scheme the most privileged millionaire can still be a victim as long as not a White Christian Male. Meanwhile, even the poorest SOB in the country is still guilty of having ‘white privilege.’ Individual guilt, virtue and responsibility has been replaced by collective guilt, virtue and responsibility. Individual freedom goes by the boards as identity politics reveals its totalitarian nature and creates a culture of vengeance.

Facebook has blocked advertising for Pro-Life movies, stories, and causes. It banned the Declaration of Independence as ‘hate speech.’ And they are just getting started.

Zuckerberg says he is going to start clamping down on what conservative Christians say “even if it doesn’t actually violate our standards.”

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has invited the atheist communist ACLU – and 90 other far left wing groups - to “audit” the content on Facebook with the goal of curbing conservative thought.

Ann Coulter writes: “The Left controls all the cultural institutions — the establishment media, corporate America, Hollywood, Silicon Valley, public schools and universities. The only breach in their total dominion of the flow of information is the Internet. So now they’re fixated like a laser beam on private citizens talking to one another online. Liberals assessed the situation and correctly concluded: People are learning facts on the Internet that we’ve been withholding from them, so now they don’t agree with us. This must be stopped!”

Letter from Facebook Jail

Facebook community standards are OK with posts expressing the wish to “burn Christians alive.” But they banned a Christian woman for posting Scriptures from Leviticus. The Facebook Community has to be kept safe from little old ladies quoting the Bible. She must be silenced, sent to the Gulag or reeducation camp. She must be punished.

News stories considered too conservative are now routinely removed or suppressed. Pro-life pages and advertisements have been repeatedly censored. Planned Parenthood, even while killing babies and selling their body parts, has never been censored.

Antifa can post encouragement to violence against Trump supporters – not a violation of Facebook standards. ISIS and other Muslim groups can openly promote terror attacks, killing Jews and Christians. No problem. But people have been suspended for posting screenshots of threats made against them. And been suspended for posting screenshots of abuse heaped on them by progressives.

Even NPR has had stories pulled that did not agree with the typical leftist narrative, such as one on the exaggerated number of school shootings (there have been 11, not 235, but you are not allowed to say so).

In 2016, former Facebook employees told of how their former employer routinely – even back then – suppressed stories that might put conservatism in a good light and promoted false stories that further the Democrat narrative. They said Facebook employed young leftists as “news curators” who blackballed the Blaze and Breitbart, among others, ignored certain topics altogether, and made sure everyone saw stories on their newsfeeds that furthered the agenda of the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, they categorize standard, orthodox Christian faith as hate speech.

People have been put in Facebook Jail for using the word ‘tranny,’ for saying “illegal aliens are criminals,” for saying “homosexual behaviors are sinful,” for saying those behaviors are immoral or perverse, and for pointing out the true health hazards of such behaviors. When those same people report being threatened with actual bodily harm, such as rape or murder of them or their family members, they are told it did not violate community standards.

For saying “two men cannot make a real marriage” (as in Holy Matrimony) a man was excommunicated but for saying “All Christians like you ought to be in concentration camps” there was no penalty. One woman was banned for saying “Bruce Jenner is still a man,” which according to his DNA is an absolute unchangeable fact. So the Truth becomes against the law and lies become praised.

Saying, “Only biological males may use the men’s restroom” got a woman imprisoned. But other people made threatening comments filled with expletives towards her, which “did not violate community standards.” Even being pro-police has earned banishment.

Just yesterday, people were banned for referring to the Jussie Smollett case as a hoax hate crime, because saying so “violates community standards.”

Fact Checkers, Fake News, & Shadow Banning

Zuckerberg rates news organizations based on ‘trustworthiness.’ Oddly enough, every left wing outfit, not matter how extreme, is deemed trustworthy and only one conservative company, Fox News, is. I suspect they only threw in Fox News so they could deny picking only progressive news sources. Facebook says they will use these ratings to promote or suppress content. So, the truth is not the truth unless the correct group says it.

Facebook is employing ‘fact-checking’ that only utilizes left-wing fact checkers that studies show are three times as likely to label the SAME NEWS STORY from a conservative source as false. Facebook will then ‘shadow ban’ the article, dropping its viewership by 80%. Even words such as ‘America’ and ‘God’ have triggered shadow banning.

The point to understand is that under the system before President Trump was elected, you more or less decided what you would see based on your own preferences, based on what you click on and ‘liked.’ Now, the powers that be will decide what they want you to see and read.

Shadow banning is where it appears a post is normal but Facebook makes sure no one sees it. For just one example, Prager University had a video that received 80,000 likes the first day and ZERO the next. It was still there. But no one was seeing it, even people who always like the Prager videos and have liked its page.

The most ridiculous thing of all is using the Southern Poverty Law Center to decide who is a hater. Talk about calling the kettle black! Anyone to the right of Josef Stalin is a hater to the SPLC. It itself is an organization that makes a living by hating people. Standard orthodox Christianity is a hate group according to them.

Psychological Projection

Psychological projection is what comes to Leftists naturally—meaning that they unceasingly attribute their own undesirable feelings and ideas to those they despise. For instance, no one is truly more intolerant than those who make ‘Tolerance’ their byword. No group projects more sheer hatred every day in social media than those who make ‘Hate’ their shibboleth. No one decries ‘people forcing their ideas down my throat’ more than Leftists who do exactly that and are proud of it. No one is more bigoted than those who scream ‘Bigot’ at those with whom they disagree. No one is more racist than those who use the word ‘Racist’ constantly as an insult. Those who demand ‘Diversity’ demand uniformity of thoughts and words.

Bigotry is a negative bias towards people because of the group they belong to and it runs rampant today—bigotry against white men, against Conservatives, and bigotry against Christians, who are constantly demonized as being collectively bad people.

It is not enough to allow Christians to believe as they wish, their views must be annihilated from the face of the earth; they must be made to renounce their most sacred convictions. People with power are using their authority to silence, intimidate, punish, or criminalize those who hold differing views on sexual perversions, for instance.

No allowance is made for the fact that people may hold different opinions without hating anybody. The whole thing is Orwellian NewSpeak and DoubleThink. The Left must be intolerant for the sake of tolerance; treat people unequally for the sake of equality; and hate on people to ‘stop hatred.’

Young people are being taught to confuse feelings with virtue. What is good and bad behavior is not based on how you ‘feel’ about something but on whether the consequences of doing it are good or bad.

The Left is not reaching out to persuade others. They are mobilizing a mob mentality, tapping into the most base of emotions, the most animalistic of passions, to gear people up to hate others to gain power over them. They make war on reality itself, war against nature, wisdom, morality, and knowledge. The Left hates the traditional family and wants it destroyed. They hate the Rule of Law. They hate the Truth.

But I don’t hate them. Nor do I want them censored or silenced. In spite of their dangerous and wicked views I believe they should be free to say and write them.

Is There a Solution?

Now, some people say, “If you don’t like being censored just quit Facebook.” And some say, “If you don’t like abortion, don’t have one”; “If you don’t like murder, don’t kill anyone”; “if you don’t like rape, don’t rape anyone.” It is not that simple. Most all of your family and friends are on there. Most businesses must have a page on Facebook. 32% of conservatives have quit Facebook or are considering it.

Facebook thinks it should dictate your preferences and values and attitudes. It believes it should silence dissent from its atheistic, socialistic, open borders, globalist New World Order. Not to win a competition of ideas but to stop opposing ideas from being said, written, read, or thought.

How about we have fairness and justice? How about we stop calling every conservative comment ‘divisive’? How many times have you seen that adjective applied to a progressive comment or article, no matter how abrasive?

If I may quote Amalric de Droevig: “True democratic choice depends upon the free flow of information and ideas. Censorship is always and everywhere an attack on both human dignity and democracy itself. If you are not exposed to different ideas, even wrong ideas, even stupid ideas, you’re not really free to choose your own destiny as an individual or as a people.”

Yes, James, it seems I was caught in the Facebook drama.

Timing was uncanny, so I assumed I was jailed, when only likes stuck, but all comments "failed to post".

It was only later I found out that there was a worldwide problem with the site.

Anyhow, keep up the good work.

And thank you, Brad, for that link. It is an interesting article. I am kind of ambivalent about that subject, too, breaking up big companies. So you've got two topics in a row that I am on the fence on.

Brad Nelson ~ Hey buddy! It is very good to hear from you. Thank you very much for reading my article. You know, I have always been ambivalent about net neutrality. I read some about it and wasn't convinced either way what is best. What are the pros and cons of it and why do you favor keeping it? It has to do with an open internet with a level playing field for all versus playing favorites with big players, yes?

Vivian Coblentz ~ Thank you for taking the time to read my work. I am so glad to see that we are in agreeance. The main theme of Cultural Marxism was to take the commanding heights of all ways information is communicated, colleges, public schools, newspapers, television, and now the Internet. And Marcuse invented 'tolerance' specifically as "tolerance of me but not for thee."

I could not agree more with you more that "People want to feel good about their choices and not admit they are sinning, so they don't want Christians imposing standards of any kind. They get it so backwards--we aren't trying to condemn them. We are trying to help them be free and have eternal life."

That's why my favorite cartoon is 'It's not a fence! It's a guardrail.' Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Interesting you bring up the Devil. My latest book is entitled 'What Does the Devil Do All Day?'

'Ship of Fools' by Tucker Carlson? Amazingly that is the very book I am currently reading! I am on the last chapter and I love it.

Thank you so much for sharing my article on Facebook! I humbly consider that high praise indeed. :-)

OMG! I agree with every word you just said! Big Tech has WAY too much power. I'll bet there are millions of people out there who share our same thoughts, but Big Tech makes sure it's hard to find them. The Left is the only one with a big voice out there anymore because the conservative ones are squeezed out and made to feel like a minority. I especially love your photo "Truth: It's the New Hate Speech." Yes! That is right! The Bible warns in the last days people will do what seems right in their own eyes. We are seeing this more than ever before. People want to feel good about their choices and not admit they are sinning, so they don't want Christians imposing standards of any kind. They get it so backwards--we aren't trying to condemn them. We are trying to help them be free and have eternal life. Jesus just went around speaking the truth, and they killed him. It's a different era, but the same devil.

I tried setting up a Facebook page to promote my conservative political blog, and Facebook shut it down within a day or two for violating community standards, which is such a broad term to include anything Facebook doesn't like. It's here, if you have any interest: https://voicesfromeverydayamerica.blogspot.com/ I applied for a Google AdSense account too, but it's been over 2 months, and I have yet to be approved. Interesting.

Have you read Tucker Carlson's book, Ship of Fools? I'm only part way through, and it is amazing. He spent a lot of time addressing Facebook and Zuckerburg. What an eye-opener! I'm only on Facebook to stay current on friends and to push my articles and blog posts, but I avoid it as much as possible because there is too much surveillance going on behind the scenes most aren't aware of.

I'm so glad you are a bold voice in the world! We need more people like you who can express these clear and present dangers in such an eloquent and engaging way! I rarely find articles I find worthy of re-posting on Facebook, but I'm going to use this one too. Keep them coming!

I first heard of it as Obama Derangement Syndrome....it’s really nothing new. And I don’t blame the Republican never Trumpers. He has ruined their party. Oddly enough, just what the left wants to do to the Democrats.

I do not subscribe to the Trump Is Great Club. Zero Tolerance was enough for me. Actually, calling someone Horseface was enough for me.

And I do have that right.....as of now. Not so much on hubpages, where the clique goes after people who differ from them.

But I will continue to speak out while it’s still allowed. I give you credit. Most other rightwingers just say something rude and delete my comments. You and Jacklee are stellar true examples of respect for the 1st amendment. So, enjoy Trump as I enjoyed Obama. Seeya!

Leslie McCowen ~ I am sorry to hear you were shadow banned by HubPages. But President Trump has not caused any damage to American citizens.

The term 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' was first used to describe Ruling Class Republicans who were contemptuous of Trump, the Never-Trumpers. It was later applied to the leftist media and any honest person must admit they have the symptoms in spades, having "lost all sense of proportion" and have "lost the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality."

Fareed Zakaria, a extreme leftist himself, defined Trump Derangement Syndrome as "hatred of President Trump so intense that it impairs people’s judgment" rendering his political opponents incapable of accurately perceiving the world. Zakaria even urges Americans like you who hate their president to realize that every Trump policy "cannot axiomatically be wrong, evil and dangerous."

Adam Gopnik, who hates Trump, nonetheless warns thos like you with TDS that it is "huge and even fatal mistake for liberals to respond negatively to every Trump initiative, every Trump policy, and every Trump idea."

President Trump has delivered on a key promise that many economists said was impossible: manufacturing jobs boomed in 2018. The manufacturing sector added 284,000 positions over 2018, its best year since 1997. Job openings at businesses making long-lasting consumer goods surged in November, suggesting tariffs and trade disputes are not hurting U.S. manufacturers.

The revival of American manufacturing was a cornerstone of Trump’s 2016 campaign promise to Make America Great Again. Many economists derided the idea that manufacturing could boom in the U.S., insisting that a combination of automation and globalization meant that factory jobs were gone for good. Some even accused Trump of attempting to “con” the American people with promises of manufacturing jobs.

Perhaps the highest profile attack on Trump’s manufacturing jobs promise came from then-President Barack Obama: “Well, how exactly are you going to do that? He just says, ‘Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ What magic wand do you have?”

In Obama’s final year in office, manufacturing employment actually contracted. In fact, in Obama’s entire eight-year term, the economy never added as many manufacturing jobs as it did last year.

The Trump economy is making America great again as the government dependency cycle is being broken more and more each day through the best social program invented — a real, productive, meaningful job.

The U.S. manufacturing jobs boom comes as free trade economists, billionaire donors, and establishment media pundits have routinely claimed that Trump’s 25 percent tariff on imported steel and ten percent tariff on aluminum would cripple the American economy.

THERE’S MORE! MAGA: First Real US Household Income Gain Since 2000! President Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ economic policies that favor Main Street over Wall Street just delivered a record for U.S. median household income and the first full year of higher real incomes since 2000.

Despite almost two decades of income stagnation for 99 percent of Americans, establishment economists on the left and the right have viciously attacked the Trump Administration’s ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) policies for cutting taxes, deregulating the economy, maximizing oil and gas production, ending foreign entanglements, renegotiating blatantly unfair trade deals, and slapping China with tariffs.

MAGA’s unorthodox economic policies delivered big income gains and drove unemployment down to its lowest levels in almost 50 years. The Federal Reserve’s Inflation Expectation Rate for the next five years has actually fallen by 20 percent since President Trump took office in January 2017.

“Main Street” is booming, according to the latest Bureau of Labor statistics, with 7.1 million job openings on the last business day of October. The latest Small Business Optimism Index reported its highest percentage since 1989 of companies under 250 workers planning to raise compensation in 2019 in "response to persistently high levels of unfilled open positions.”

President Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ economic policies that favor Main Street over Wall Street just delivered a record for U.S. median household income and the first full year of higher real incomes since 2000.

THERE’S MORE! Jobs Growth Explodes Higher, Adding 312,000 Jobs in December! Far More than Expected! Economists had PREDICTED payrolls to only add 176,000 jobs.

Also, 4.8 million more Americans have joined the work force since President Trump took office in January 2017. 400,000 Americans have reentering the workforce from chronic long-term unemployment!

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

I am commenting on my own articles because I was shadow banned for over a year.

I started just writing current events relative to certain hubs, and it was a good way to keep a record of world events. Like a diary of sorts.

Now, since only poor Christians and trump supporters are ever victims, I’m sure many of you have also been shadow banned, but maybe you found different ways to handle it.

You would have to go way back in comments to find other hubbers.....and that would tell you the exact year they disappeared me.

So please, spare me the woe is me.

And TDS is a made up smear, absolving you all of any responsibility for the damage T is creating. And it’s massive.

The ceo of twitter also took big money from Milner. And on there, you can’t say a word about Coulter and Lahren without being sent to twitmo. And Trump maligns at will.

      Spare me!

James, we know all about it!

She has, I want to say trolled but this is something else, let’s say stormed every conservative on HP with falacies, prejudice, and every trait she falsely accuses conservatives of displaying and no measure of reason, fact or examples will disuade her from spewing her delusions! Down the rabbit hole is the most accurate description I can come up with to explain what happens the moment you engage her in comments.

And her responses here to your measured and cogent arguements is a pretty good example of what I’m telling you.

I only wanted to warn you that trying to reason with her is an exercise in futility. You can ask anyone, and if they don’t agree with what I’ve said you can bet they dwell in the same rabbit hole!

T ~ I went over to see some of Leslie's Hubs and saw something truly bizarre that I have never seen before: In the comments section are dozens of comments in a row that she has made herself to apparently imaginary imaginary people. So she is commenting on her own article, rebutting arguments no one has made. That is sad and strange. I think we should pray for her to be healed mentally and spiritually.

Leslie McCowen ~ 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' is widely recognized as "Blind hatred of President Trump and his supporters." That is in fact, the most widely agreed upon definition of the term. It is funny how you keep claiming that me reporting blatant bigotry is bias. To you the bigotry is not bias it is the uncovering of it that is bias. It reminds me of how lefties claim showing pictures of aborted babies is violence - not the dismemberment of the babies, mind you, the showing of it. LOL

Leslie McCowen ~ Well 'hate speech' and 'college speech codes' and 'political correctness' are all inventions of and defined and redefined exclusively by the inclusive Left. And the purpose of all such suppressions of our freedom is to be directly exclusively toward Conservatives, Christians, and Republicans. That is what those weapons are designed for. That is why they exist. They don;t exist to shut down leftist speech of shut down speech equally across the political spectrum. All the forbidden items are opposed to the leftist agenda.

The CEO of Twitter said these words: "At some point, one side or the other must win  –  and win big. The side resisting change, usually the one most rooted in the past systems and incumbent interests, must be thoroughly defeated  –  not just for a political cycle or two, but for a generation or two."

And make no mistake: the blueprint is to eradicate all conservatives and Republicans.

"Trump is just making clear to all what was boiling under the surface for decades, and that's exactly what we need him to do. Why? Because America finally needs to take the Republican Party down for a generation or two. Not just the presidency. Not just clear out the U.S. House. Not just tip back the Senate. But fundamentally beat the Republicans on all levels at once, including clearing out governorships and statehouses across the land."

"After the election of President Trump, Democrats were struck with Trump Derangement Syndrome: Blind hatred of President Trump, and his supporters, by those who preach tolerance. It is, tragically, a psychotic hatred that has driven them insane, the legal definition of which is “being unable to distinguish right from wrong.”

Truth, or bias? I mean come on.

And Facebook has never been a neutral platform. You only notice now because it affects your "side".

I also, would like people to be aware.

Leslie McCowen ~ Did anyone in the history of the world ever say, "All Palestinians are terrorists"? Not that I am aware of, which makes your statement a Straw man, arguing against something nobody said.

You call President Trump a terrorist. Words have meanings and that one means: "a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation to terrorize civilians in the pursuit of political aims." Who has the president terrorized and how? To whom has he used unlawful violence?

I do not disagree with you that a private business should be free to do as they please. You might notice in my article I did not call for Facebook to be made to do anything by government force. My point is that, as I said, Mark Zuckerberg stated many times that Facebook was “a platform for all ideas.” But now they are making editorial decisions, and that makes them a publisher.

My article is to make people aware by showing what is happening. My hope is that consumers will make their voices heard so the problem will be corrected.

It's hard to believe that Leslie McCowen would "strongly disagree" with the discrimination of Christians and Trump on Facebook when there was a whole congressional hearing on the matter and thousands of pages of evidence that even Facebook's executive officers couldn't deny. The result of that hearing was an apology and a promise to do better, which hasn't really happened.

Leslie McCowen ~ I did not say "only Christians have been censored." I said only "Christians, Conservatives, and Republicans" among law abiding Americans have been censored.

And you are talking about international censorship of terrorists, murderers, and war criminals. NONE of the Americans in the 44 examples I gave above are any of those things.

You act like taking Josef Stalin off of Facebook would be equal to censoring Mother Theresa. A totally false equivalency.

Are you seriously comparing a sweet little old Christian grandma in a tiny hamlet in Iowa with a man whom your own article says "Ramzan Kadyrov, the repressive, brutal, and authoritarian leader ... the opposite of a sympathetic figure: He has been credibly accused of a wide range of horrific human rights violations, from the imprisonment and torture of LGBTs to the kidnapping and killing of dissidents."

Leslie McCowen ~ Thank you very much for taking the time to read my article. I appreciate your correspondence, which I must confess led to a few hours of further research.

My article is, of course, about the censorship of Americans by Facebook, mostly since President Trump was elected, which is also being done by Google, YouTube, and Twitter, what with Silicon Valley being possibly the most 'progressive' part of our planet, and naturally so since most of its people are atheists.

Your first article, for which you kindly provided a link, is about foreign affairs, an area not covered by my article and one I have not researched until a bit this morning at your provocation. The link to President Trump seems to be the Magnitsky Act, which was signed into law by Barack Hussein Obama. The Act freezes the assets and prohibits the entry into the USA by terrorists, war criminals, and murderers, but I don't see a Facebook provision in the law.

The New Yorker says the Act "provided the rationale" for removing the pages of Ramzan Kadyrov not that Trump made him do it. The Act and Facebook's actions infuriated the Kremlin, so I guess we can forget the whole idiotic "Trump is a Russian agent" nonsense. And surely you are not suggesting Zuckerberg is a Trump fan. As your own article points out, "Many other people on sanctions lists, however, remain active on Facebook and Instagram."

As for your second article, I see it says the business relationship and friendship between Milner and Kushner goes back to 2009, long before President Trump entered politics. The article never really makes a point, it just meanders making insinuations. Is it illegal for Russians and Americans to do business? Is Facebook the new Pravda?

Facebook Vice President of Advertising, Rob Goldman, stated that Russian ads couldn't have affected election, because most of them came after the vote. He also said, "I have seen all of the Russian ads and I can say very definitely that swaying the election was NOT the main goal. We have shared that fact but very few media outlets have covered it because it doesn't align with the main media narrative of Trump and the election."

The Russians spent $150,000 on Facebook ads. As James Freeman has taught the world: "So the spending on fake Russian political ads identified by Facebook amounted to around 1/7,000th of what Mrs. Clinton spent on advertising. And of course these fake ad buys were not material in the context of Facebook’s total advertising revenues, which amounted to nearly $27 billion last year. Russian meddling was simply intended to discredit the likely winner."

Cynthia Taggart ~ I could not agree more that "The hate of Christianity gets stronger every day." Just in the past few months we have had Democratic members of Congress saying they do not think Christians should be judges. Christians are being fired and not hired and being stopped from making a living, and punished by colleges, for holding standard, orthodox Christian beliefs that have not changed since Jesus walked the Earth. The idea is to put Jesus into the closet.

Dolores Monet ~ Thank you for taking the time to to read my article. I appreciate you writing to me. It is nice to hear from you again. I gave 44 specific examples of Christians, Conservatives, or Republicans being punished by Facebook when their ideological opposites are not.

Conservatives feel marginalized because only they, since President Trump was elected, are repeatedly put in Facebook Jail, and have their pages and posts removed. Zuckerberg, before Congress, admitted he could not come up with ONE instance of a Progressive being shadow banned, sent to Facebook Jail, having pages, videos, and posts removed, or having algorithm changes destroy their traffic.

I have 5,000 Facebook friends, probably 80% Conservative, I'd guess. I know dozens of them have been imprisoned by Facebook and had posts removed and when they tell me what it was for it is hard to believe when I see the comments lefties make all the time without being punished. I have not heard of one lefty being in Facebook Jail ever or having posts removed. Because, let's face it, Facebook employees agree with their views.

I do believe it was a neutral platform before President Trump won the election and Obama gave Zuckerberg a talking to. It has grown steadily worse since. For a more scientific study here is a link: https://cdn.mrc.org/static/censored/mrc-censorship...

Hi James - I have trouble understanding how conservatives feel marginalized by Facebook. My own feed has featured nutty memes claiming that Obama installed a "Muslim prayer curtain" in the White House; that Obama was bringing in hoarde of illegal aliens stuffed into and on top of trains; and that Jesus wanted my to vote for Trump.

While the company pulled the Declaration of Independence down for one day, it claimed that it was done in error due to a quote that referred to indigenous Americans as "Indian savages."

Remember Cambridge Analytica? When Facebook exposed the data of millions of users to the Trump Campaign? Steve Bannon was the VP of Cambridge Analytica.

FB may be a dumping ground for all kinds of crackpots, people who put up memes with fake quotes, pictures of tortured animals, etc. Most of the abortion controversy posts I see are anti abortion.

I still can't see where the right feels so marginalized on FB as so many of the posts that I see are ultra conservative.

"Today, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell and other conservative leaders released a joint letter to Attorney General William Barr, detailing the growing threat of online censorship from social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube.

"The letter provides a substantial list of biased actions that these platforms have taken against conservatives and calls for action, asking Attorney General Barr to "investigate how these social media/search media powerhouses wield their power to sway elections."

"Since January of 2018, the Media Research Center has conducted a thorough analysis of claims made by conservatives that they are being censored on social media. We lead a coalition of more than 40 organizations that expose the censorship of conservative voices on social media. We have witnessed first hand the bias of these organizations. Facebook, Twitter, and Google/YouTube represent existential threats to the conservative movement and indeed American society as a whole."

You wrote "Facebook now punishes people for ‘Hate Speech,’ which it has decided is anything written that MIGHT offend or insult members of ‘protected groups.’ It would take a lot of space to list all the ‘protected groups’ so let’s just say everyone in the world except White Christian Men." So true!

Wonderful article that I am sharing and must read again because it has so much to take in. I have to add too - in addition to all you said in this wonderful post - that I hold Facebook responsible for my family not speaking to me. Facebook has a power to collectivize minds into believing that unless one conforms to Facebook standards of what "hate" is then they will be seen as hateful. My whole family is "liberal" so since I post from conservative platforms they will not speak to me. It's frankly scary!! My family has always known I was conservative (I take after my atheist father). But that never affected our love for each other. However, when Facebook became the new connection for all, it changed them towards me. The need to be "accepted" took precedence. Now my nieces and nephews see me as an "enemy" simply because I believe in God. So insane! (Before FB, my sister actually asked my opinion as to whether she should send her daughters to church even when she said she was not sure she believed. I told her that she should send them because religion is so much a part of history and they ought to have the education to decide for themselves what they believe. She did eventually send them to Sunday school, but, today, she won't talk to me. Incredible! [Thanks Facebook!])

But what did Jesus say? Matt 10:35-36 For I have come to turn ‘A man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
