Free Cell Phone For Low Income Families Safelink Wireless

Updated on August 10, 2011

Never be left without a phone again.

SafeLink wireless is a government supported program that provides a free cell phone and airtime each month for income-eligible individuals.

So I get a free cell phone?

Yes, you will get a cell phone with 60 minutes airtime added every month. As of right now (10/19/09) they are sending out a Motorola W175g.  The minutes even roll over. The phone is also based on Tracfone wireless so you can add minutes anytime you want.

How long until I get my phone?

Pending approval the phone can be there in as  little as 7 days!

What does it take to qualify.

If your household income is below 135% of the poverty guidelines or you participate in assistance programs such as Public Housing Assistance, Food stamps and medicaid.  (see safelink.com for a complete listing).

What States are in this program?

As of 10/19/09 SafeLink service is offered in Alabama, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin... with many more states being added in the future.

This sounds too good to be true...

Well it isn't.  Goto safelink.com today and fill out the short application to get you or your loved one the security of a cell phone.

You would have to check with safelink for that information. Did you review the qualifying information on the site? Hopefully something can be worked out for you.

This program has been offered by safelink for a while now. I know it is making its way across the nation and every month, new regions are added. I believe it started in the southeast and has gone as far west as Colorado. It is great because it provides a means of communication for emergencies to those who might not have the means of providing one for themselves. It provides a basic, sturdy, quality phone and about 60 minutes of talk time. Again, it is an emergency phone that can be used for calls other than just 9-1-1. Good stuff tracfone, keep it up!

U HAVE TO GO INTO YOUR PREPAID MENU OPTION AND THEN GO TO ADD AIRTIME AND THEN WHEN IT ASKS FOR AN AIRTIME CODE ENTER 555 THE SYSTEM WILL THEN UPDATE AND GIVE U YOUR MINUTES. YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR PHONE ON TO GET THE MINUTES. EVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH ON THE 1ST YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR PHONE ACTUALLY TURNED ON TO GET YOUR MINUTES.
