Gigabyte P2532 Notebook Review -- Do You Want 3D or Full HD?

Updated on June 19, 2011

Notebook PCs – or laptops as we usually call them – have become the main trend when it comes to the world of computing these days. They are no longer luxury items as they were before when there were only few who could afford one. However, with the fact that laptops are now massively available, there is a pretty good chance that we may end up choosing a wrong one that is not suitable for our needs in case we do not do enough researches on it. With so many options currently available on the market, however, one that you won’t regret considering is the Gigabyte P2532 laptops.

Gigabyte has been known worldwide for their quality products. The manufacturer’s motherboard, for example, is one of the best we can avail to date. Now, Gigabyte is trying to offer us laptops that come bundled with the 2nd generation Core i7 processors. Better yet, we are also given the choice whether we want a laptop that is capable of viewing 3D graphics or simply one featuring full HD images.

Yes, you heard it right. The Gigabyte P2532 laptops come in 2 options. If what you want is simply HD display, you can go for the P2532N laptop. Otherwise, you can get the P2532V. However, both of these laptops will perform very similarly as they have similar specifications which differ only when it comes to the graphics part.

If P2532N is your choice, you will get Intel HD Graphics 3000, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M with 2 GB of video memory and support for NVIDIA® Optimus technology. Those, accompanied by a full HD15.6”monitor capable of viewing a maximum resolution of up to 1920x1080 and LED backlight, will give you the full HD experience you are looking for. But, if you go for the other option, you will also get NVIDIA® GeForce GT550M with 2 GB VRAM. The difference is that this one supports NVIDIA® 3D Vision™. You will also get a15.6”monitor with LED backlight. Yet, the difference, again, is that this one supports NVIDIA® 3D Vision while the previous one doesn’t. Unfortunately, the maximum resolution here is only up to 1366x768. To tell the truth, this is very unfortunate considering even the Asus VG236H is capable of viewing 3D graphics in full HD. With the Gigabyte P2532 laptops, we will have to sacrifice either full HD or 3D.

Apart from graphics, both the P2532 laptops from Gigabyte have exactly same specifications. To start it off, we will be able to choose Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM which is a Intel’s latest generation quad core processor with a clock ranging from 2.0 to 2.9 GHz. In addition to that, Gigabyte also offers 2 or 4 GB of DDRIII. Better yet, we can max it up to 8 GB utilizing the 2 slots available. Combine that quad core processor with 8 GB ofRAMand multitasking is something that you will never have to worry about. Also, lagging is very unlikely to come your way. Additionally, keeping in mind the graphics card in use, you need not hesitate running highly resource consuming applications and games, such as 3DS Max 2010 or Call of Duty: Black Ops, with very high settings. Unfortunately, there are chances you may not run some very resource demanding games with the maximum settings because your graphics card is a mobile version that underperform its desktop counterpart after all.

Both these laptops utilize the mobile Intel® HM65 express chipset. Now, when it comes to storage, what you will get is a2.5”9.5mm SATA HDD running at 7200 rpm. You can choose to have 500 or 750 GB of storage space. There is also a slimDVDsuper multi dual layer drive with which you can burn your data onto external optical media such as aDVD-ROM orDVD-RW. Better yet, you can even burn your data onto aDVD-DL with this burner.

Both the P2532N and P2532V seem to be built with entertainment in mind. This can be seen from theTHXTruStudioPro sound system that comes along with four 1.5W speakers, 1 subwoofer and an internal microphone.

For those of you who are fond of having video calls, Gigabyte has prepared a webcam with the resolution of 1.3 Megapixels for you to enjoy. Fortunately, you won’t find connectivity a problem as these laptops have also been prepared with 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet Base-T LAN, 802.11b/g/n wireless LANand Bluetooth 3.0 + HS.

I/O communication between the laptops and other devices will not be a problem either thanks to the various ports available with the laptops. These ports consist of 2USB3.0 ports, 1USB(2.0)/eSATA combo port, DC-in jack, 4-in-1 card reader that supportsMMC/SD/MS/MS Pro media, mic-in, earphone-out, RJ45, D-Sub and HDMI ports.

The next thing you may well notice about the Gigabyte P2532 laptops is the huge vents you can see on the left and right side at the back of the laptops. These vents are meant to cool down the laptops significantly as the laptops become hot fast enough due to the high specifications the manufacturer has built them with.

If you are concerned about the security of your P2532 notebook PC, you can make use of the Kensington lock slot provided with it. This will keep people from stealing your laptop. And, if you are mobile quite often, the 6-cell lithium-ion battery may well accompany you for about 3 hours before you will need to recharge it. Also, the laptop is not too heavy weighing only about2.6 kgand measuring392 mmin width,263 mmin depth and somewhere between 27.6 and35.1 mmin height. Well, of course, you may find lighter laptops yet you may not get such high specifications. So, the choice is up to you and if you choose the Gigabyte P2532 laptops, what will you choose, the full HD or the 3D graphics?
