Google Gadgets

Updated on March 22, 2013

What Are Google Gadgets?

Google Gadgets are handy little applications for your webpages. Google Gadgets uses simple HTML or Javacript and can be embedded using iFrames. Google Gadgets can also be used on sites like Google Maps and iGoogle.

There are several types of Google Gadgets. Currently, there are about 50,000 from which to choose. Some are just for fun, others will help keep your life organized and improve productivity.

Some examples are calendars, driving directions, countdowns, translators, weather forecasts, news, dictionaries, horoscopes, games, calorie counters, quotes, and handy to do lists. But that's not all- there are lots more. If you have Google Desktop installed on your computer, you can even add Google Gadgets to your desktop.

How Do I Add Google Gadgets to a Website?

Adding a Google Gadget to your desired webpage couldn't be easier. Choose the Google Gadget that you want to add from the directory. Customize the gadget to your preferences. Then simply copy and paste the HTML code into your webpage. You now have a new interactive toy or tool for your website. What a fun and easy way to add dynamic content to your website!

Some Cool Google Gadgets

Here are some examples of some unusual or fun Google Gadgets that I have found:

How about a Virtual Aquarium? Whenever you get stressed out, watch the colorful fish gently swimming around in their peaceful, virtual abode.

Play PacMan on your computer while the boss isn't looking. This classic game is now available to place on your webpages. There are also Google Gadgets for Tetris, Bejeweled, Mario Bros, a Space Invaders clone, Age of Tetris, and many, many other games.

See the current moon phase right from your computer. This would be a great widget to add to an astronomy site.

Watch quotes of inspiration accompanied by motivational pictures. This is perfect accompaniment to motivational websites and webpages dealing with spirituality. There is also a Google Gadget that shows a Bible verse of the day.

How about a calorie counter? There is a Google Gadget that allows a person to count their calories straight from your webpage.

3D Pregnancy is a Google Gadget that allows a person to count down the days until the due date of a baby's birth. It also includes an image of a baby's development that is updated weekly.

The Photos of Places to See Before You Die is an inspirational Google Gadget. Full color photographs from around the world refresh each time a page does. Great motivation when you want to quit working so hard.

This is just a small sampling of the many cool widgets available from Google Gadgets for your webpages.
